One of two things is wrong. Either the source is heavily interleaved -- which will require you wait until v1.00 -- or the original has LPCM audio, which I'd recommend removing because it takes up so much room that the video bitrate is severely constricted.

Well, I don't think it has LPCM audio, so it's probably the interleaving. Is there a way I can find out for certain if there is interleaving on the disc? Also, would the video quality degrade if I ran it through Rebuilder again?

If it doesn't have LPCM audio my bet is on multiple angles. It probably has multiple camera angles you can select at pretty much any time during the concert, meaning it's one of those rare discs where the additional angles are at least close to the same size as the first one. That's what jdobbs is talking about when he mentions waiting for v1.0 since the current version only re-encodes the first angle. Running it through DVD-RB again wouldn't help since you're already at the minimum bitrate it will give you IIRC.

Version 1.00 is coming very soon, I'm slightly behind on my release schedule -- I just have a few outstanding promises to implement and some final testing to do.

I've got my computer warmed up for a new guide once it comes out (and Beauty And The Beast Special Edition ready to test out the angle/seamless branching encoding).

Earlier today I tried backing up Jaws 2 DVD, yeah I know not a great movie to begin with. I didn't feel that the original should be left some poor DVD handlers upstairs meaning my younger siblings. So when backing up the DVD with DVD-RB Pro 93.2, I applied the blank extras movie & menu only feature. It would get it down to nearly fit onto a 4.5GB DVDR, then I would use Shrink to compress the menu so I can leave the video untouched. I really didn't want to encode this film if I can manage to get it down just enough to fit. So to get back on my problem, when I applied blank extras/movie & menu only the DVD returned at 7.5GB while the original was around 7.8GB. I was hoping to use DVD-RB to just blank out the extras as it does a good job doing so and in the process also removing those ads at the start of the film. Now, I just want to be clear before I try this once more. My settings was 100% on video and blank extras. Now many can see what I'm aiming to do, so what would be the best way to use DVD-RB to blank extras while leaving the main feature/movie untouched. I have failed 3/3 times and have just done movie only. So that lengthy post is my quesiton. ;-)
Also on an additional note, will DVD-RB sometime in the future have a option to compress the menu while leaving the video at 100% and completely blanking extras all at once?

Blanking sections of a movie isn't possible with "No Compression" right now. That is something I'm working on. As for menu compression -- I'm not sure when that might be added, possibly by v1.00, but not positively.

I have a problem...
I've looked briefly through the guide, but forgive me if this has already been covered. After Preparing the video, it tells me that there is only 3.7GB 'space for video.' Surely this should be closer 4.3GB? Also, when I encode (using CCE Basic), it only takes 20mins, and the resulting file is 1.1GB and unplayable.
Any suggestions?

That's correct... remember that is "space for video" -- in addition you have space for audio, subpictures, and navigation packs.
As for the 20 minute encode... it sounds like you are not configured properly. I would suggest you use the Rockas Installer as it will do most of the configuration for you.

Ah, that makes sense. I tried using the Installer just now (didn't know there was one!) but I still get the problem that it encodes in 15mins. Any more ideas?
Thanks for your help. =)

You stated that you're using CCE basic? Which version and is it a trial or the retail version?
Which operating system are you using and how much available space do you have left on your hard disk?
If these questions have already been asked then just ignore my questions.

I'm using the Retail version of Basic, but I also tried CCE SP Trial and I couldn't get that to work at all.
My computer has Windows XP, 2.66GHz, 512MB RAM, and there's about 40GB free.

What version are you using and what was the Installer you used?
If you used the Freeware Installer, are you sure that you didn't got a message warning you that "Avisynth" isn't present on your computer?
Just in case... have you tried to re-install Avisynth?

jdobbs you have done it again! add me to the list of happy DVD-RB users. i remember trying the program out around the 0.58 versions and i couldn't seem to get it working. yesterday i stumbled upon and read this entire thread and i HAD to give it another go. overnight i became a VIP user (0.93.2) with CCE Basic 2.70.01.02 and ive just backed up Any Given Sunday with unbelievable results. i feel like im playing with the big dogs now after moving away from DVD Shrink, Roxio Popcorn, and similar tools I was using before
just had a few questions though, in terms of a good rule of thumb, when would it be most likely fit to remove menus as well keeping only the movie? any specific movie length or movie size? i DO like keeping the menus but if im not keeping any extras i suppose its space wasted that could go to the video. lastly, im using CCE Basic and the only option i really changed was (cant remember exactly) a setting from default to 32bit (XVID)? as i saw this recommended in the thread, however im eager to try CCE SP Trial to compare for my own knowledge. would i keep this setting the same and/or change anything else to take advantage of SP?
oh and encoding this 2.5hr movie took me like 5 or 6 hours. my system is win2k3, P4 1.5, 512mb RDRAM, WD 250GB 7200rpm. i figure this is around where it should be, correct?
thanks in advance! great program jdobbs/rockas and great thread to everyone, its been very educational

Looks like it's working for me now - I just tried the CCE SP Trial. Thanks for all your help, guys.
One last question, all the DVDs come out to 4.32GB. I'm sure the extra 40MB doesn't noticeably change the quality, but is it even possible to have it take up a full 4.36GB?

Just a warning, though, if you change the target setting and get a disc that is too large -- please don't post a bug notice and call it an "oversized" disc. My recommendation is that you leave it set to the default.
@whipshock
That's a hard question to answer because there is no definitive way to determine quality based upon size, bitrate, or compression ratio. I'd say in virtually all cases it is better to just keep the menus -- because they are convenient. The exception might be when you notice the combined total of all the menu files (VTS_??_0.VOB) takes up an exceptionally large amount of space. Remember, it takes quite a bit of space to change your video quality in any significant way.

how can i merge titles? i am trying to re-encode a flipper, i have each side in a separate folder, i then merge DVDs in DvdReMake and it creates 1 disc with two separate titles (VTS_1 & 2). DVD-RB only sees the first title. any tips for tackling this?

Hello,
I have asked this question to a few people and never got a for sure answer. I have been using DVD Rebuilder with CCE and experienceing problems. When I encode a movie ex. James Bond to fit onto a DVD5, It takes 20+ hours to do for just a 4 or 5 pass.
Now my comp is faster...being a P4 2.53Ghz with 1gb 400mhz ram, so it shouldnt be taking that long. I have been told a pas should take 1-2 hours and I have been taking 4+ hours.
I make sure to shut down everything and see if that will speed it up and it doesn't. I cant figure out what is going wrong.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I feel your pain! Well maybe not! You have to join a flipper along with its menu using DVDremake and then you export it to a folder to be processed by DVD Rebuilder. Check DVDremakes web site for more.
http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/ht_merge_full.php
If your PC is taking considerably more than 3 hours to encode a DVD using RB/CCE then you have a system deficiency somewhere. The encoding time of a DVD with RB/CCE is directly proportional to the processing power of its host.

Thanks Wild77,
I have v0.93 rebuilder(free) and CCE SP v2.67.00.27, and I have all the programs I need for it. It works perfectly just super slow.
I have a decent comp and cannot seem to get good speed going. I am doing a james bond movie and cannot get speed above 0.7. I start out above one but decrease very quickly and stay there. I did a 2 pass with CCE On Evoulution and it took over 10 hours.
Thanks for the help buddy.
