I think that error 380 is going to be hard to pin down because it's not limited to just using RB. It could be the result of a corrupted file somewhere on your system that's not directly related to RB but RB is nonetheless affected by it. I found one application that received that error message because of an incompatibility with the Arial font.

I've been wondering if 1.0 Pro will ever become freeware and that if I just sit tight for about a month I will get it free. Is that possible? [!VJbob just reveals himself as a cheap ass!] The truth is 0.93 beta works great for me and I can't imagine it getting much better.
Sorry to bug but does anybody know the answer to this question?
1) Is it possible to undo the menu locks like Shrink and Recode so I can pop a disc in and press menu and go straight to the menu? Usually I get the ghostbusters logo during some trailers, disclaimers and company logos that I usually don't have to sit through when using Shrink or Recode. This feature, imho would make this app perfect.
Am I the only person who cares about this?

A version of 1.00 will become freeware but without all of the pro versions many options. There will always be differences between the Pro versions and the free versions.

Sophocles,
As we've all come to say, "RB is slow good". With that in mind, I hadn't been doing any time trials. But with your bringing up the subject, and Mort mentioning his; I thought I might just run one to see what RB is currently doing time wise. I encoded Fellowship of the Ring (Extended version)- Part Two. The size was 7.66 GB and I did a full disc encode, English only without DTS. It finished in 1 hr 11 min. Here is the log:
[05:01:27] One Click encoding activated...
-----------------
[05:01:28] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- CCE Basic 2.69.1.10 encoder selected.
- VTS_01: 3,609,678 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V file
-- Processed 183,388 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- VTS_02: 92,522 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V file
-- Processed 5,563 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 46.5%
- Overall Bitrate : 2,598Kbs
- Space for Video : 2,498,968KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 3,041/600/2,598 Kbs
[05:06:03] Phase I, PREPARATION completed in 5 minutes.
[05:06:03] Phase II ENCODING started
[06:01:40] Phase II ENCODING completed in 55 minutes.
[06:01:40] Phase III, REBUILD started.
Correcting VTS Sectors...
[06:12:56] Phase III, REBUILD completed in 11 minutes.
Done.
[06:12:56] PREPARE/ENCODE/REBUILD completed in 71 min.
Like you I cut out some of the nonessential info so the log wouldn't be so long. I left in the Preparation files and only removed the "grunt" work files from the Encode and Rebuild. I'm still using the 2.69 Basic. Just haven't taken time to change to the 2.70; been being a bit lazy. But from the looks of things, I'm wondering what's happening with Mort's PC. Most of my encodes seem to come in at a much lower time. 7.66 GB in 71 minutes isn't too bad. I'm just using RB set at the default settings, so nothing out of the ordinary and you know my old Dell "mule" isn't the fastest.

You guys really like rubbing salt in the wound huh. I've been real happy w/ my pc and thought it was pretty fast untill now. I'll encode another folder later today and post the log. The folders I run through DVD-RB/CCE have been trimmed and polished with DVDRemake, all settings are default and I'm useing UnDot filter.

Having some difficulty burning a television series dvd using dvd rebuilder verion 1.00 rc2.I've burned it to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter in file mode.I then used rebuilder in hc mode and it looked like all went well.It did a great job with the first episode but the last two were still pictures with audio.I have made sure that the options are unchecked such as the steal space and the movie only options.I tried to use DVD Decrypter to burn it but could not find the file,so used Nero instead.Curious how to get the last two episodes onto dvd.Should I use iso mode output in rebuilder?Thankyou for any help.

I find that interesting because my old rig was faster than yours by a good 15 to 20% or more. You had a faster front side bus of 800 and mine was around 600, but I was using faster CAS2 memory versus Dell's stock CAS3 memory and on top of that my CPU was 300 mhz faster than yours. That is more than enough to make up for the front side bus speed with some extra to go around and it took me over two hours to do that movie.
brobear and Mort
Could you both run a CPU and memory benchmark using SisoftSandra, take screen shots and then post them at zentarium? This would only take about 15 minutes to do.
Mort, I seem to recall that your old rig did in fact out process mine by a several minutes because you were running both a higher clock speed and a wider front side bus. If my calculations are correct your front side bus is around 914.28. With your CPU @3.2 ghz, your front side bus at 914.28, SATA hard disk, and your slightly faster CAS2.5 (not much difference than CAS3)you should be able to smoke brobear's Dell (nothing personal brobear, you can tell your Dell we all still love it).
I really would like to see those benchmarks guys. Then perhaps we can get to the bottom of some of those settings in RB. Another point is when you guys post file sizes can we do it as it's read from the folder and not from Decrypter?

Decrypter can only burn ISO files. I know you said that you checked to make sure movie mode wasn't selected but it sounds like your getting under mode from the tool bar "movie mode, menus, and slide show extras" Which version of CCE are you using?

Thankyou for your reply.I do not have CCE can't afford it right now.I know there is a trial version but seems when i get used to a trial program it expires lol.I just double checked the settings on rebuilder and now i'm not positive that i did not remove the check for movies menu and slide shows.i'm using the hc mode with one pass cq with analysis.I am not sure if the hc is better or the quenc mode is better but the hc seems faster. At least it was not a total coaster the first episode was very good.I've looked for guides but they all seem to just be for rebuilder with CCE basic or sp.After triple checking the rebuilder settings should I give it another go,does rebuilder do episode dvd's?Thankyou in Advance.

HC is genrally better than quenc for quality but the quality setting will slow it down. The trial version of CCE Basic is only good for about 3 minutes of video and the SP trial version leaves a watermark that will annoy the He** out of you.
Good luck.

Soph,
This is probably part of the reason my pc is slower. Here is the cpu I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116180 Note it is only 533 fsb and no ht technology. It is also 1 mb L2 cache and I have read that 512 kb is actually better for video encoding.
I'll see about running some benchmarks although you're getting pretty technical for this dummy. What forum in zentarium do you want them posted.
Also all I have is the free vs of sandra. What other cpu's and memory do you want me to use for comparison?

To get your CPU to 3.2 GHZ you would've to had up your front side bus to 609 Mhz. That would still be faster than the dell. A 400 mhz advantage on the CPU is going to provide more performance than a 200 mhz front side bus advantage.
I setup a thread at zentarium to measure the differences.

Sophocles,
I doubt my old "mule" is moving anywhere near the speed of your speedy new PC. I tend to believe it may be in the setup. BigO was telling me he had gotten faster times with a clean setup of RB and the newer program. I didn't pay much attention to it until I was checking out the Rockas installer. So many beginners are asking questions that go back to the installation, I figured I'd best take a look. I don't know where the improvements came in, but somewhere down the line the RB has started doing the encodes a bit faster. I know it isn't the PC, I haven't done a thing to change it.

Performance will vary from DVD to DVD during encode but in the end the hardware is the same. I'm hoping to collect a wide variety of system specs so that we can pair them up into groups and then get to the bottom of this 32 Bit SSE2/MMX question. I'm not suggesting a benchmark race because that wouldn't be productive beyond building a relationship to high performance areas. The tests will take less than 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
If we can get 3 or four comparable machines in as many sets benched and measured then we can manipulate both the independent and dependent variables and even have a control that would validate the results. Yea, I know here I go again. LOL
We might also want to invite outsiders to join, in particular those that like to parade their specs.

Glad you got it up and running. It sounded to me as though it was a minor setting problem and the sound with frames pointed to what I thought was the likely culprit. Encoders are slower because they review and reallocate space across the entire DVD.
Thanks brobear
That's a little more info than I was looking for, go to the benchmark thread at www.zentarium.com and post it there.

One thing not included in the log that I noticed in the Sandra program is the comparison chart of various CPUs. Seems that there isn't a lot of difference in the comparative benchmarks for CPUs running at 2.8GHz to about 3.2GHz.
Something strange seems to be going on here. There is nothing in the way I did things that should make my encodes come out faster. But times for other encodes are similar to the one I did with Fellowship (extended)part 2. Currently, unless there is something out of the ordinary, my old "mule" does an encode in about an hour and 15 min to an hour and a half (RB v1RC2 with CCE Basic 2.9 retail). Guess I need to check out the SSE2 and MMX settings to see what happens there. I'll start keeping tabs on the logs to see if there's any significant changes in time for future encodes. I know it's system related because the encoding is very processor intensive, but I don't see the great time variances, 4 and 5 hours down to slightly over an hour. I know the older P3s with 750MHz processors are going to be significantly slower, but that doesn't account for the big difference in the P4s running at 2.4GHz and above.

LOL Beware what you ask for, that was just the contents of the 2 benchmarks you requested. What's scary is a complete SiSandra report. I'm afraid my PC may give the result "TILT", if I tried to do an all inclusive Sandra report. ;)
