It's not a problem providing you do have the correct drivers installed, and correct COMM port assigned, it is a lot more hassle free to have an old laptop or a standalone PC with the correct 9 pin port, and running OS - XP. But check out dooby's graphical guide as well as HiTecks excellent guide to doing the COMM port part, different box (Starview Super), only want you to check/follow the assigning bit, good luck, it is with regards to Vista.

Hi Malci

Are you using an Adaptor or what, when you talk about COMM ports?

Can't understand why you are getting that message if you are connected direct to the box with a NULL MODEM lead, have you tried pressing DOWNLOAD and then unplugging your box and plugging back in.

Yep axxxo, don't know if you can dig this one, be obliged, but if they ask and then tootle off!! what can you do, I thing the message you might be on about axxxo, is "Firmware unfit for your receiver" wish it was that simple at the best of times, anyway I will have to turn in, early start tomorrow, talk soon ;)

Bleeding Vista!!!! god I am sick of that thing, and if you have a new laptop then it can't have the 9 pin serial port surely.

uninstall the driver you have already first, do a restart, then install the driver in the link above, then and only then when the driver is installed insert your cable, leave it install and it should be working after that, actually ill correct myself, it will be working after that!if it s not feck it in the bin lol.
if itll work on my max v itll work on the 1000 and im using vista
let us know what happens either way, good luck

That's a novel way of sorting it axxxo lol, the frustrating part is no reply and the in between wait!!!, checked your link and that has not been used, just tested it and downloaded to double check, it's fine. But then we haven't got a life or not supposed to have, it would have been nice of you to reply/acknowledge leeds81.

pity man, should have worked, ive done it so many times on my own vista system its just gone beyond rediculous at this stage, have updated a very varied range of boxes i cant understand why anyone else has trouble with the vista system, did you properly uninstall the driver? from add remove programmes? also its helpful to uninstall the cable that shows up in the device manager, in com ports in particular, sometimes com ports doesnt even show up in vista, which is a pretty good sign when installing this particular vista driver.if you keep playing around with it i guarantee it will work

Yep, some you win some you lose, just check (step by step to rule out any mistakes- then see end result!!!) out this thread and see the messing moh had, in the Adaptor alone, just one of those unfortunate gremlins at work I suppose, he will get it in the end.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post

Please help newbie well almost, I have a Max V and updated firmware 2 weeks ago working great, I purchased 3 EX5000 box's yesterday for the family (xmas presents)

Followed firmware download, all appeared successful, followed channel load as discribed, factory reset ect, but I don't get power scan , only shows fast scan (red Button) changed symbol rate to 6.887 (Glasgow)all chanells found. I ran through 20+ channels and checked fav's all loaded.I than done the same for the other 2 box's every thing looked ok. I then connected the first box back up and no channels found??? scanned again, found all channels again. Tried second box same problem, channels lost, it appears when I disconnect from mains I lose all channels. Have I done something wrong as I do not get the power scan (yellow button option). Is there a waiting time to store channels??

Thanks in advance

Help Please: Vir*in channels today are suddenly showing very low signal strength on Freq 317 and 323 (these show Virgin 1, +1, etc): I did a channel update but that didn't work. All other frequencies are fine: have Vir*in moved the channels on 317 & 323 to a new Transponder? Do I need to do a complete scan again, or has anyone found what frequency have these channels? I would appreciate if someone could reply with the new frequency as it will save me doing a rescan. I'm ex Telew*st, in Twickenham area.
Thanks

If you are having problems with just those channels, then do a Manual scan on the frequency that they are broadcast, that will sort it.
