Would this box work instead of 500s? and if so would it be much harder to set up?

?450 doesn't sound too bad if it includes everything and a valid C line for a year.
About ?100 for box, ?50-70 for Satellite and some cable. Then about ?150 for a year sub. So about another ?100 for installation.

That's pretty good, but.....there's no guarantee they'll keep the C line active for a year. Plus it's childs play to DIY after a bit of reading.

That is a 500 albeit a clone. That will work fine once you get a good image on it. I like the Pli images best with xline skin.

Mancred, any possibility that you could set up a form like michah did, with all the details on how to set up, for dummies like me I have my 500s for about a month now, i have connected it to the sat on the roof pointing east, I'm stumped after that about cccam etc, and what is a cline? excuse my ignorance in such matters.

your half way there. I use dcc (dreambox control center) set ip addr on ur dm (expert settings) communications set up. then just edit your cccam.cfg file )

You create your cccam.cfg file yourself. There should probably be a default config file in var/etc if you installed cccam. Read it, it explains what all the options are. Keep a copy of it somewhere on your HD for future reference. Just simply replace this files contents when your ready.
Someone needs to give you a C line. This consists of
1:their static ip address(or dns details)
2:their server port
3: A username they have setup for you
4: A password they have setup for you

then you can add various options at the end of this. E.g. if you have 2 C lines you might want to tell cccam which cards to use from each server.

Oh and make sure to change your DM password. DO THIS NOW! Use telnet and the 'passwd' command

The image is your firmware that your flashing to the box. But if your really asking that then I'm a bit worried! ;)

Hi Allen, I don't think Afterdawn is the best place to be asking for C lines. Not even sure it's allowed.

Try a different site:

You pay extra. Generally the C line will only allow one box to be connected. If you try to connect two then it will cause problems.

@foresttod Your sky dish is pointing at astra 2 which broadcasts sky. All other packages are on other satellites, none are on that sat except sky and freeview.
