Chps magazine is noted for its lack of bias but someone has to be wrong.

I think that this guy should try again.

If you go to the Chips web site you will note that they do not sell DVDcopy2.

My view is if you're happy with what you're using then what more can you want.

Sophocles, I thought that might elicit a response from you. heh heh The title of this thread is : Which Transcoding Tools Produce The Best Picture Quality. which in itself is subjective in nature. Since we are looking at different tests I thought this one would be a good one to add fuel to the fire, so to speak. It kinda threw me for a loop also, I have found chps to be fairly reliable. Did not know that they didn't sell DVDcopy2, which would disappoint me if that had anything to do with their results.

No, what I have done is read about their articles in other forums, where no translation is necessary. In fact when I was researching dvd2dvdr I came across some articles from chps whose links were in german. From everything I have seen they are supposed to be very reputable. of note , when I went to download dvd2dvdr it was in german, so I had to search a while to find it in English. Where did you get yours from. The site from your link was in german for the download.

It's funny but in Europe they aren't using rebuilder as much as DVD2DVD-r. The Europeans love IC8 and who wouldn't you can't beat the price for a commercial quality 1 clicker.

I think that we're all doing the testing I've already backed one movie. Here's the link.

I agree, we are a reet strange bunch here.

This DVD2DVD-r is something ive also had a look at, but was "put off" by someone who had problems with it. It's funny how things stick in the mind. I understand you have tried a movie with it?. I can't imagine it will save much (if any) time over Rebuilder, but I am interested in it's "ease of use". How does it compare mate?

Has anyone tried Rejig with rebuilder yet?. From my understanding rejig is free?

Rejig is free but from reports that I've read its quality seems to not even equal most 1 clickers and after a film dips below 80% the quality decreases rapidly. That being said I haven't tried it and I don't hold much store in internet rumors.

Brian, I think rebuilder has definitely got it in the ease of use department. I'm just kinda experimenting w/dvd2dvdr and cce. I haven't tried a movie in rebuilder with cce v2.67 again to see if my last was a fluke or not. If it turns out that remake works using that version, for me that will probably be my "saga" software method, with IC8 and Copy2 as my normal back-ups. Oh yeah and a little reocde every now and then just to complete the recipe. LOL (I do look forward to Mr. Shrink's claims of improving his software's quality to that of IC 8)

I have now decided to do "movie only" backups with dvdrebuilder after my "hit & miss" affair with remake. The funny thing is I never have a failure running a "remaked" movie through Pinnacle 8. Guess I'm lucky.

I have been watching THAT thread extensively. If he could possibly rival IC8 with shrink it will surely worry a few commercial "one click" operators. I am simply champing at the bit for the new version to emerge so I can try.

I had a look at the DVD2DVD-r guide, but I think I will give it a miss. Nowt will get easier to operate than rebuilder (IMHO)

Now, if he would only retain menu function, he's ignored my little "suggestions" for that, if you noticed. heh heh I neither have had any problems using remake with IC8 or dvdcopy2. I like using it with IC8, cos I don't care for it's re-authoring. Anyhoo, see ya "mate"

Does DVD2DVD-r copy multi-angle/interleave movies?

If you want to keep titles in shrink you could always use remake before shrinking. I have been doing remake and shrink on some smaller movies.
I just like to get the warnings screens out.

I'm feeling pretty good about rebuilder now that I can get past the 0004 errors when using remake first.
I have three machines running at bedtime now.

I think DVD2DVD-r does handle multi-angle/interleaves, I'm putting it through the DareDevil test tonight if it can hand DareDevis 12 angles it should be able to handle most.

About DVD2DVD-R With CCE Basic

This is a movie only backup system; it discards everything but the main movie and its soundtracks. It?s not a replacement for DVDrebuilder which does allow you to hang onto the menu and extra?s. I couldn?t see anyway to compliment the editing process with DVDremake. Last night I ripped DareDevil in file mode and then used DVD2DVD-r/CCE to encode. It took about 2 and half hours to complete and the final file size came in at perfect 4.36 gigs. The result included both an ISO backup and a standard Video_ts backup. I burned the ISO backup with DVD Decrypter. I then played the entire movie without a flaw. BTW I may never watch DareDevil again.

Once you setup DVD2DVD-R it becomes a 1 click transcoder. Unlike DVDrebuilder once you click go, you?re done, there?s no prepare-encode-rebuild buttons, you can go to bed and the result will be ready to burn in the morning. I don?t see DVD2DVD_R as being a replacement for or even in competition with DVDrebuilder I see it as a compliment to it. I?d use DVD2DVD-R for movie only backups and DVDrebuilder for saving the menus and extra?s. The only concern I have is whether or not there?s a difference in video quality. If you decide to try DVD2DVD-R with CCE basic you must be using version 2.67.

I also used it using dvdlab/dvd2dvdr/cce v.2.67, ripping in file mode with decrypter. I burned out of dvdlab so when I got up it was completely done including the burn. It came in at 4.35g's and the quality is excellent. Unfortunately, as sophocles said, movie only, since I prefer menus, I will stick with rebuilder. Of note, since I have switched to cce 2.67 I am 2 for 2 using remake with rebuilder. I don't know if this is coincidence or not, to my knowledge I am doing nothing different. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Did you play the movies all the way through? I thought the backup of DareDevil that I made with Rebuilder/CCE was also perfect until I tried playing it all the way through. After it played for about 40 minutes the movie locked in my standalone, I had to move it to the next chapter to get it to play again and then it locked again after another 15 minutes and then it played to the end. With the backup I made last night I played it all the way through without incident. Perhaps you are right maybe there's a flaw in CCE 2.69, I'll have to investigate further.

Sophocles, no I haven't. I jumped around with chapters and scenes. Before I couldn't even do that. I will play them today, It gets so tiring watching the same movie over and over, do you suppose I could fast forward it all the way?

Tell me about it, do you know how many times I've seen DareDevil in the last 4 weeks? This is of course a rhetorical question.

No, but I do get this repetitive urge to act out the part of the movies' script in a synthesis, where I'm playing a game of darts with Bullseye in a pub and he always loses. Hmm!

Oh yeah baby....Would you like for me to quote any of several movies from start to finish verbatim? I believe I can do it, thanks to this forum making me so sick of them I'll never want to watch 'em again! lol OK, sophocles, watched both of 'em, no flaws all the way thru except one little freeze that was minimal(barely noticeable) , I do seriously think the error is in v2.69. I am doing Needful Things (anything with S. King is always long and a good test)right now. If it passes muster I've got to believe CCE 2.69 was at the root of all my problems. brobear, how ya doin' man, have you tried Rebuilder/CCE yet? We'd been talkin' about it but I couldn't remember if you had or not. One other thing FYI, the new version of Decrypter is out, looks like a lot of improv's. Also the new updates for Nero Ultra 6 is out-packs 1-4, and we'll all skip #3. OK, back to King, hope all are doin' fine.

I'm beginning to think that its not CCE but perhaps Avisynth or who knows. All CCE does is encode the infortmation sent to it by the frame-server and the frontend.

Sophocles, I really have no idea, but the only thing I've changed is 2.69 to 2.67 so why the difference? Also when I used dvd2dvdr it specified to use 2.67, so there must be some difference. Again you know more about these matters than I, but all I know is rebuilder is now working for me with Remake(I think LOL). signed, confused, but happy

Be happy and keep reporting what works. We all started together but we've grown and branched off into our own directions. Not always together but always in touch with each other and as a result we've learned from each other and shared it with a lot of people.
