Hi,

My friend is interested in doing this..

At present, this seems the only, let alone best, method of playing backups on the new PS2.

However, a few questions...does this seal have voide appear all over it when removed? How can this be prevented?

Also, what is the best method then?

Obviously not super glue.

So sellotape the two tabs down - but is paper a neccesity. And does it matter if you tape down onto the circuit board or not? Is it a pushing in mechanism on both? Or are you just covering one up?

And finally, whats the blue tac thing about?

Cheers.

Well as someone else said in this thread(too lazy to look for his name, sorry...), the new PS2(btw, it's not called PStwo, as GameSpot comfirmed...) does not recognize that the flip top is open, until it is open more than 1.5cm to 2cm. All you need is a small, soft edged(any material you can touch the Swap Magic disc without having to scratch it useless...) tweezer. Just open up the top about 2cm, get your tweezer, take out your Swap Magic disc, and slip in your backup. Push it down so that it is correctly in its spot using the tweezer.

yes u can open it about a cm no prob i think the problem stopping us from opening the lid any further is the internam button at the back of the system im trying to figure out a way to trick it in to thinking its pushed down with out taking apart the system even though ill probally end up having to take it apart lol.

Hey,

Just so everyone knows, in the prevouse post there is a tutorial, it says in it to use super glue, DO NOT USE THIS, use either sticky tape, or i use a tiny piece of blue tac to keep the button pressed down.

Thanks

That voids warranty and imho it makes a modchip a better option than the softmod. The lid can be removed without opening the PStwo. I did that, but I think I'll play a borrowed legal copy of FF-X first and wait until warranty is over and new modchips are out ;)
Anyway... http://www.linker4u.com/ has the discs for sale. And soon version 3.3.
http://www.swapmagicfix.com/ has fixes to load games with older swapmagic dics.

Open it halfways and push it to the right and lift the right side first (easy). The left side requires more force even after removing the spring. Just think of it how they originally put the lid on it in the first place. :)
Even I thought it would break off, but it didn't :)
If I could make photo's/video I could prove it.
Oh... the plastic strip left of the lid can be removed too.

That guy didnt know what the person from ps2newz was talking about. He said "troublesome games". By that he was refering to those that need some sort of http://www.swapmagicfix.com/ . The system may or may not lock up when only the back censore is covered for an extended ammount of time. Works perfectly fine with both covered. Ive been playing for a few days.

And I am thinking the people that cant even get any games to boot arent restarting their system. The game wont start up automatically unless you do so.

Can you keep us updated on whether keeping both sensors taped continues to work for you? I'd like to do this mod myself: I've got a copy of ESPGaluda waiting to be played. :)

I got mine on Sunday. I just started up Karaoke Revolution a few minutes ago. Works better then my last ps2 (v.9). Im using SM 3.2/2.0 and have both the sensors covered up.

Ive loaded about 5 games. GTA: SA lots of times. Ill test out some more later.

I have also been hit by the Sony boobytrap.
Did the tape mod on both switches, booted ESPgaluda with swap magic, and all was well.
Next evening I tried to boot up swap magic again
and it wouldn't read the disc. Tried correct region games and none will boot, the drive just makes wierd noises, sounds like it's starting and stopping again and again.
I'm in Europe but this is an american model 70011.

Guess I'll have to try to get a replacement but that involves sending it back to the US grrrr.

So, are we saying this is a US model thing, or a UK model thing, or what? I've heard from quite a few people now from other boards I've visited who say they've done this soft mod and had no problems at all; and they're all from the UK.

In order to reset the system..wouldnt pulling the battery be sufficent enough to reset the memory into thinking that everythings back to normal, thus allowing your pstwo to play original dvds once again? Just a simple thought...

Yea, Sony made it so that if you left your ps2 on with the lid closed it would burn out the laser. That makes alot of sense *rolls eyes*

Do you know how much Sony would piss people off for doing something like?

I have got brilliant news for everyone, i've come up with a way which should allow you to play your backup games without distroying your pstwo:

1)Open up the console and securley sticky down the internal switch.

2)LEAVE the switch on the cover and put your console back together again.

When you play your bought games your pstwo will work like the original because the front cover switch hasn't been modded.

But before you play your backup game place a little bit of blue tack ontop on the hole where the sensor is on the cover. Now you should be able to play your backup games.

REMEMBER! many people have said that the pstwo shuts down after a long period of time because both switches are covered but if you REMOVE the blue tak after you have finished playing and leave you pstwo on with a bought game for about 2minutes your pstwo will be alright.

Have fun!
