Also you can get PAL swap magics from http://www.consolepoint.com , also their guide to installing the 12 fliptop is http://www.consolepoint.com/contents/en-us/d66.html and the guide for installing the ghost switch is here: http://www.consolepoint.com/contents/en-us/d64.html .

ok i've heard that Sony made a boobytrap so if you covered the switches (that are made to detect when ur tray is open) the laser will burn out or something like that. is that true

i also wanted to know with the magic switch you get from http://www.linker4u.com are you able to close the cover, or do you need to keep the cover open all the time

do you guys think swap magic is good for the long run?
Thanks

Ugh...I hope that's not true. Hopefully someone knows the answer to your question.

I heard that the first couple of slimline PStwo's that were shipped had a laser problem but I think the problem was fixed.

[quote=SingaBoiy]Its been a while since ive been here but i think I figured out what the problem was with people thinking their laser's had 'burned' out.

I was fixin up my sister's b/f's pstwo to play games and when I finished.... it all of a sudden wouldnt work. The lens wouldne slide down when I turned on the ps2. I began to make sure that that all the cables to the lens were secure. They were.

I then began to move the little black thing the tab in the back was sitting on. When I got it in the right spot, the lens would start to move like normal. I use doing this with tweasers. I stuck each leg of the tweasers on the 2 back solder connection the black thing sits on and it would work like normal.

So for all you that are having the ps2 not work after getting the tabs down.... try messing around with it like I did til it gets in the right spot. If you cant seem to get it in the right spot, connecting those 2 points should do it for you. You may have to solder a piece of wire down there to get it to work.

Hope this helps people with the laser problem.

yes you can close the cover with the magic switch.

you can't use the dvdloader/cdloader discs though. so games like jak3 won't work. with mod chips as cheap as 20 bucks and the new ps2 covers I don't know why you would want the clips. trust me I have them, they're easy, but they'll be gone when my lid gets here.

Yeah, I'm most likely ordering my lid along with SM 3.3 next week. The fliptop is a great option(easy to install) plus you don't need to void your warranty if you use it as a hinge. Isn't the PStwo warranty only 90 days anyway? Pretty crappy...

As far as I know there are two companies that produces switches, the one from here (ps2fliptop.com) is come with 2 pieces, the one from HK is 3 pieces (but cannot close the lid). I like the 2 pieces it works the same purpose, but less install and it's right here in USA. instruction can be see here.

Yes, install the switch, you still have warranty label intact. (no need to peel of the warranty label, that is a great)

is it possible to install the fliptop on the slim ps2 without taking the warranty sticker off and using it as a hinge?

Yeah, you can do that. I opened up my PStwo a couple of days ago just to see if it's possible. Many people have been doing that anyway. Just use it as a hunge like you said.

So...which code is associated with the U.S. versions (ie NTSC or PAL)?

NTSC is associated with U.S., Canada, and Japan. PAL is for Europe and Australia. NTSC is the right one.

Thanks a lot. Oh, and...it is a fact, then, that the tape method (taping down the switches) on the PStwo, pretty much f***s it up? I've heard from numerous individuals stating that such a claim is false.
Thank You

i've been reading this forum for awhile and as of 2 days ago, installed the new flip lid.

problem...thought everything went well with the installation but...the discs won't spin. the slimline turns on, i've got access to the memory card etc....BUT NO SPINNING!!!!

i've already read on here that others have had the same problems...but has anyone figured out a way to fix it? please? anyone?

i tried to knife off the warranty tag but couldn't.

maybe the lids not pressing on the switches properly, so it stops the motor and laser

Yeah, the only thing that I can think of is that the fliptop isn't down all the way. Double-check the way you installed it. People have bought the fliptop and it works fine for them. It must not be pressed down all the way.

Tell us how it's going after you double check it.

well, i've checked it a couple times already. when i lift up the "flip lid" i can see that the disc brake is "off."

i can hear it humming when the power is turned on, just no spinning.

just a question...say the disc brake is off but for some reason one of the other 2 catches aren't working. Would the system turn on porperly and just not spin?

Well, I also have a sad story.
I did the tape mod (no super glue), and it worked fine for a week or so. I played backups only a couple of times and the last game I played was actually an original.

After that my PSTwo was stopped for about a week, and yesterday I went to play a little. I inserted my Swap Magic disk (3.3 DVD) and it started doing some strange seeks I had never noticed. Since it couldn't startup I turned it of and thats it... now it wont even spin any disc. I don't know what happened (the lase burned out?) or if it's another thing.

I still have the warranty seal intact (although you can tell it is not perfect), so I'm going to try to get a new one.

Well, they won't exchange it, cause I've had it for over a month. They gave a number to call Sony...

Does anyone have any ideia what could be wrong?

Wow, scary (I suppose). I was planning on purchasing a PStwo in conjunction with the Swap Magic 3.3 disks; I was gonna use to the tape mod. I have a fairly good chance that I'll probably get one of the 4D date code models (apparently, these are the ones that have a fixed laser?). But, are you serious about the problem you experienced dude? What was the date code on your PStwo, because I've heard from numerous folks that they're having a high success rate with the tape method mod.

I had the PSTwo since 26/11. I did the tape mod on the 28/12. Everything went ok and worked until yesterday... :|

I used only 2 DVD-R backups. One with a Sony DVD-R and one TDK. I also tried a Princo, but was not successfull (this was the first media I tried).

The model number is 70004CB I think.
