Thanks vr4falife, so this means that actually the break sector between the two layers are NOT always the same depending on the version of the game!
Japanese version:
Break sector = 2,151,631 - 196,608 + 1 = 1,955,024
Chinese version:
Break sector = 1,909,311 - 196,608 + 1 = 1,712,704
xOR, in case you tried to burn a chinese ISO with the break sector corresponding to the JAP version, it could be worth another try ;-)

I felt in the mood of wasting time and dvds so here's what i did...
I reinstalled gear pro mastering today, and found out that if I created a new project, the write button would be available...
I tried to extract the 2 layers of the iso and put all the files in the new project (respecting the order seen opening the iso), and set the project for PTP burning...
I added gt4l1.vol last, and the program told me the file was added at 1700something sector so I tried putting the breaksector at that -1...
I burned, than i realised the program showed a message saying "warning: was not able to send DVD mastering info", the result is that the DVD was burned with OTP :( and would not even boot to the warning screen
Anyway the strange thing is that while before explorer showed only the first layer of the dvd, now it showed the full content (including gt4l1.vol with the right size)
I doubt this will help but i posted it anyway... :)
i guess i'll just wait for a dvd5rip or the original PAL...

If u read the post it tends to suggest that there are no current burners able to correctly write the information in a way the PS2 expects. The ISO afaik is currently not unwrappable (from its "zip" structure) and it is unlikely that it can be downsampled enought to fit on a DVD-R.
I'm sure the big groups have looked at this one, Echelon managed to get xenosaga onto a DVD5 so obviously current methods arent working.
Just buy it :D or wait for your regional release, be it USA or Europe. Its only 3 months off. LOL

To anyone who has got the game - try using the Toyota RSC on tarmac! Its fast and has great brakes!! I know this has nothing to do with the topic but it seems to have slowed a bit in here! So instead of trying to backup and waste more dl discs im giving the game some hammer!!

hey guys,, im new to this place as i stumbled across it looking for GT4 D9 info.. seems you poor people are having some troubles.. i cant really much when it comes to copying games etcetc.. but i can tell you i have a copied version of the game that works fine.. i live and work in China and have both a Chinese and Australian versions of the PS2, my aussie PS2 wont play the burnt games here(and almost every game is!!) as i never bothered modding it.. my Chinese PS2 seems to work fine with the pirated games though? now, im pretty sure they're pirated games, well i know a lot are,, but the GT4 D9, im not exactly sure,, it appears to be exactly the same as all the other pirated games i have,, no 'sony' or 'PS2' logos etcetc on the disc anywhere, and it came in the usual paper wraping.. no plastic cover like we get in the west, no instructions, nothing,, just a disc(with crapy printing), and a photo copy of the cover of the game.. and all for 15RMB ($2US) i was just wondering how i could have a burnt copy if everyone says you cant do it??? i can still buy original games here mind you, just like the games i would buy in Aus.. but they're no where near as cheap.. and more often than not, i dont need instructions for games, even if they arent in english.. anyways, that's about it.. i'd like to know what people have to say on the topic.. and if needed i can send copies of the game to you guys as proof if you like.. for free even.. though, that'd be for only a few copies, after that i think i'd have to ask for some cash, or something? anyways,, let me know what you think about it... for now, im gonna go take some new rides out for a blast around al my 50 new tracks.. well, not fifty yet, still have to unlock some etc... *shrugs*..

The pirated games you are talking about are not burnt, they are pressed, using the same process as original DVD's. They are exact 1:1 replicas of the original, that's why they work on your Chinese PS2. And they won't play on your Aussie PS2 not because they are burnt (since they are not), but because of the region protection.

Hi there, I'm new to this thread, I have opened the extracted gant-gt4 iso with isobuster and what you see is, that you have exactly two times the same data (3,7GB) in two filesystems, one in ISO and one in UDF Format and these two in one Session. Seems to me that you don't need double Layer DVD! The Game is two times in the ISO, I guess!
I have encountered something similar before with "Champions of Norrath" which is a DVD9 (in the PAL-Version at least) but there seems to be junk-data to fill the DVD which is not needed for the game!
I will try now to burn each one on a normal DVD+R and also it may be worth trying copy each Data-Set on one layer of a DVDR-DL.
What do you think about these approaches?

bobbel20, one problem that u will encounter straight away is that so far all releases by groups have been nuked so noone even knows if these iso images could work anyway.
you would need to take your iso image from original gt4 disc. i looked at the contents of the iso myself but wasn't able to work out what could be removed if anything. i know that some games do have dummy data to pad out the image but not sure if there is any in the gt4 image. if this was a simple task i'm sure one of the release groups would have had this out on dvd5 at least a week ago. i think it is proving difficult to rip and compress gt4 and thats why there is no wroking release available.
if anybody knows different please post!

bobbel,
I don't think it would work, try to open the iso with a program that can read the second layer, like Apache (search for it in ps2ownz forums) and you'll see that the second layer is NOT like the first one...
The second layer contains only 1 file, GT4l1.vol, about 2.2GB in size.
Anyway I've read in various forums about people that tried burning only 1 layer to a DVD-r, the result is still the same, freezes after the first warning screen, when it is supposed to start reading data from GT4l1.vol...

OK, you guys were right, seemed I was wrong about the "two times data". I've tried the Apache programm and found the GT4L1 file (2,5GB) on second layer.
One thing I will try now is to extract both layers and ebuild a new iso containing everything, also the GT4L1.VOL file. This ISO will certainly not fit on a DVDR, but I will try to install it with HDL_Dump to my HD. May be HDLOADER will now start it now!?
May be I can tell more tomorrow, just another try!

I already have the full image on my HDD. HD loader has no way of knowing where to access the next set of data for the second layer so it freezes up still.
Either that this really is a nuked copy.

I've heard there is a fix for GT4 if your using Hd loader. I heard about it backupsource but he did't tell anyone where you could get it, so it could be just a rumour.

All the images are probably fine, apart from the 4.9G Chinese one, it's the writing to D/L disc or HD thats the problem

yes, images are probably ok because they are created from original game and there is no protection that can destroy image creation. problem is with DVD9 disc becasue PS2 chips doesnt supports them. and if you try to copy only one layer on DVD it stops becasue he tryies to load something from another layer and LBA isnt changed yet. so first we need tool to resize vol files and then lba relocator. resizing 6.7GB to 4.7 means to move 2GB is it possible? i think it is. by resampling music to 22 or even 11khz we will get a lot(dont worry you are not Mozart so you wont notice any difference).and we will remove movies like intro, credits, and things like that. We will suceed.

actually, dropping the sampling rate to 22Khz or 11Khz MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE... you can clearly hear the cut in the high frequencies... with the OST that GT4 is coming out with it would be a shame...
better just to rip all the music out, and release the OST in mp3 for one to listen to while playing the game with the in-game music turned off :)
Actually it would be a good idea also for the movies, rip them compleately and release them in all their quality as mpg or qt... :)

mateja> chip CAN READ dvd9! People play pirated dvd copies (pressed) of GT4 and it WORKS.Other games also are OK.So its not a problem with chip.

Fazz, maybe mateja meant sth different,
I mean chip DO read DVD9, BUT DO NOT read correctly DVD+R DL, or some other recordable format, for exactly the reason above, PTP vs OPT...
Chips may read Movies in DVD+R DL because the movie plays in OPT, may not read games in DVD+R DL because games are not meant to be wrote in OPT...
pressed DVD9 copies are "like originals", so saying that a chip reads import originals can include DVD9 pressed copies...
anyway I still have to see a working copy of any DVD9 game in a DVD+RDL, ALL other games have been ripped to DVD5, so I guess that's the way to go...
