Good god i cant take it anymore its VW GOLF not a GULF. The GULF is where saddam was hiding, not a German manufactured hatchback!! ;)
It is worth buying, even if my Mrs hates me. rofl.
Looks like it may be completely uncopiable with current writing techniques and ripping methods then. I havent even seen a proggy that will successfully unpack the .VOL files yet!! that will produce and (albeit reduced) DVD5 version.

What a shame that we actually have to pay for a good game...
Come on.. I'm all for making "backups". But, at some point you need to get off your cheap ass and spend some money for arguebly one of the best games in the last few years. (at least in the genre)
Quit complaining about not being able to rip off sony, and go PLAY THE GAME! :)
Peace.

I hear ya, i buy every good game in which i feel sony and the developers deserve cash....but alot of people here in the US dont got $80 to buy the import and then HOPE that it works w/ US consoles or swap magic or HDloader (Which it most likely doesnt)...I already preordered mine but i cant wait to try it and march is quite a ways away

Seems to me if someone actually figured out how to break the encryption on GT4.vol there would already be a DVD5 rip. All of the previous GT's had .vol extractors im sure someone will figure out how to make this possible w/ GT4. Thats out my my hands though a little above my head

it's been a month since the release of the asian version, I've followed the ps2 scene from almost the beginning and there hasn't been 1 game that took this long to be ripped or backed up...
I guess that either the vol encryption is impossible to break, or the vol has been extracted BUT it was not possible to reduce the size to fit a DVD5...
I would exclude the first one, no encryption has lasted so long in the hands of good hackers, not one that has so many people interested...
and if you think of the amount of data in the game (700+ cars and 50+ courses + graphics), I don't think removing completely the soundtrack and the intro movie would help a lot...
anyway, i don't care so much anymore... I'm playing the game!! :)

Hell yeah im gonna by it when its avail in my country (USA)......i would by the import now but there no guarntee that it will work w/ my current PS2 (Swap Magic 3.3 and Fliptop....US Console) its not worth the money $80 USD for the import and it most likely wont work.

someone mentioned "downsampling" music etc. well, would it be possible to remove all the extra videos and music instead? I know you can do that with xbox games but unsure about PS2 games.
I'm sure some of you are like me out there who dont really care too much about the music - heck just get the GT4 soundtrack and play it on your stereo then :p

scene compliance means the release must be complete so i dounbt a "cut" version would be accepted. I wouldnt wank to do without the music, they have actually done a pretty good job of the soundtrack this time and the movies are pretty short, do they wouldnt make much difference to the total size anyway.
If you are impatient like me, get the import copy, its 100% playable and understandble if u have played a GT game before. If not, wait for the localised version like everyone else, in the knowledge that confirmed GT heads like myself are probably finishing off the endurance races while you lot battle your way through the licenses and get money to buy decent cars (which takes ages in GT4 btw). LOL ;)

(i know someones gonna rip on me for this, but oh well)
first off(for phuk) im an ENGLISH TEACHER and you dont see me getting all grammatical or anything like that in here so Gulf, Golf, tomato, tomato... who would name a car after a sexist game anyways.. and i hate VW's with a passion, so im not one to care for their names.. Fords however, that's a different story..
secondly, im not one to burn/pirate/whatever copies of games.. and i love every GT game made and would love to see the brilliance behind the game seeing some of my money for buying, but fact is here in China, even if it's not pirated, chances are the makers wont see any of my money... and so far i've had to buy numerous copies to send to friends and people from this forum so they can play it. see, im not a bad guy after all...
anyways, you guys are way over my head with most of the technical talk here so i'll leave you to it for now..

I have a retail version of GT4 and a modded PS2 with a magic 3 chip, but for some reason GT4 doesn't boot. What is really strange is my modded PS2 will work with other retail DVD9 games like Xenosaga. Any ideas?

DAIR, it's a wonderfull site :)
I ordered mine from there, got it in week...
I'm in Italy and they sent it from germany, not HK, so I didn't pay any custom fee
anyway I ordered a lot from lik-sang in the past few years, always on time and never a problem...

I would ONLY use lik-sang for imports of games, have done for years. They are the biggest HK importer of games on the web.
