have you checked dvd shrinks properties to make sure that when computer is used it automaticly slows down

i've tried it both in and out of 'low priority' mode. doesn't seem to make any difference. i usually only encode and burn when i'm done with the computer for the day. Sometimes the encoding speed drops to around 560kbps, then creeps up to over 1000 after an hr or so.

internal burner.......512k ram, 2g p4. I do defrag and chk dsk once a week, and dump all tmp files on a regular basis. I know it's slower 'cause i do the deep analysis, but this is stupid slow. Maybe i'll just have to live with it, but any help would be appreciated. thanx

Mine also slowed down recently. There must be something going on now. I use the copy on the hard drive and it should have nothing to do with DVD ROM and BURNER. If it is DMA or something, why it all happened in a very short of period of time. Could it be the bug in DVD Shrink?

dalmanca,
SOMEthing is going on. Mine started slowing down a couple of months ago. I use dvd decryptor first and encode and burn from the hd. Doing THAT should make it even faster.....but doesn't seem to anymore.

Please do one without Deep Analysis and state your total time here, don?t worry about actually doing the burn if you don?t want. We can add the normal time to it since you also stated that it is burning at a normal speed.

Hi ScubaBud

I tried your way to uninstall secondary IDE but my XP refused to reinstall it after I restart computer. It said it could not find the right driver for it. Do I have to find the right driver for it?

Hi Mad :)

The driver is a windows driver and not one that anyone would install. If its not there then you do have a problem. It is part of Windows XP. Whats nice to know is that if it was working before your unistall, even in PIO mode, then the drivers are there since there are one in the same.

Driver Version: 5.1.2600.2180

Driver Date: 7/1/2001

It is working under DMA 2 before I uninstall it for sure. But I could not remember what version of driver it is using. I can still use DVD rom but it shows as CD-DRIVE and can not use BURNER at all. Should I repair the XP then?

weird, just took me 1 hour and 2 minute to encode Family Guy: The Freakin Sweet Collection...normally would take 30 minutes. The buffer kept dropping, whats going on?

same kind of problems i've been having. Buffer drops and drops, sometime goes back up after an hour or so. There has to be some way to stabilize the encoding speed.

Ok, here is what I did to resolve the slow encoding and burning DVDRs when using DVD Shrink 3.2. My computer had Window XP Home Edition installed with SP2 and latest security patches. Ever since I had slow processing problem, I did just about everthing to solve the problem but without success. Out of desperation, I installed Windows XP Professional Edition with SP1 but didn't installed SP2 yet and voila, DVD Shrink 3.2 is back to normal speed processing. I am not sure installing SP2 will make any difference but I will let you guys know if I encounter any problems after SP2 installation. So as far I know, the only difference before and after my problem with DVD Shrink 3.2 is Home and Professional Edition of Windows operating system. Hope this will help other people as well who encountered problems like I did.
