simpsim1 - yeh that makes sense. so basically when the file GT4L1.VOL is written onto the second layer on a backup disk it is written backwards, the data is in the opposite order to the original disk.
so when the game tries to access this file, it can't find the data its looking for. if it wants the first byte of data, it will actually find the last byte of data in the place it looks on the backup copy. that's why the patch is necessary, to make the game look in the right places for the data from GT4L1.VOL [Quote]

now i'm not disaggreing with you,but if this was the case,wouldn't it be easy to pick up in hex editor then.so therefore allowing the more experienced to work on that theory...to being able to put on a dvd5 disc

yeh i thought it would work. i mean, a PS2 is physically capable of reading dual layer burned media. so what difference does it make to a modchip whether a game is on a dual layer disk or not? surely its only job is to boot the game, bypassing the standard copy protection?
all i know is that i have a Magic 3.1 and even the original GT4 won't boot when its in PS2 mode, i'm assuming it can read the dual layer backup when its in movie mode, it just can't play it then because the chip isn't on to bypass the copy protection

so is the Duo2 SE officially NOT dual layer compatible? because i've heard from a few people with that chip who have got GT4 working with this patch, and now you're another one. so i guess it must be, even if it isn't advertised as such

what some of you have said about that OTP vs. PTP thing is not quite true. all playstations and dvd players spin the disc in the same direction which is counterclockwise to read clockwise spirals. on dl media OTP is lead in clockwise from inside layer break then clockwise from outside which means the layers cross. PTP is like each layer is a separate disc. each layer has a lead in and lead out in a clockwise spiral. so to read the second layer the laser has go all the way back to the inside causing long load times. PTP lead in would look like this if unrolled: lead out ================ lead in without the spaces. while OTP would look like: layer break---------lead in lead out--------- without the spaces of course. does the x box have any dual layer games? are they ptp or otp? i think it is strange that they use linux bios. i ask because i was told that only the ps2 uses PTP. also i think it is wierd that the PS3 will be coming out soon when they did not take the PS2 as far as they could. most likely it is because the ease, low cost and amount of PS2 piracy.

I am new to posting and have read quite a few of the previous posts, but I am still wondering if anyone has cracked the new encryption on Gran Turismo 4 and newer games, so that I can burn them onto a DVD-5 disc? If anyone can give me some information about this it would be appreciated.

Help

LiteOn SOHW 832S (latest firmware)
DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
Verbatim DVD+R DL

DVD Decrypter always stops when the disk is 49% done. It never finishes. Why? I've tried changing the book type to DVD-R and leaving it on normal, nothing seems to help. What's the problem

832 s isn't a dual layer burner.have you flashed it thinking it will turn it into a dual layer? i may be wrong... the liteon burners have 4 digits when it's a dual layer

Thanks Samuels,

I thought that it was a DL burner when I bought it several months ago. I flashed it with the latest firmware but that's it. Where do I find firmware that will make it a DL?

Hey,
Turns out that the LiteOn SOHW 832S is a dual layer burner. Is anyone else having trouble?

@t1nemesis
go to the liteon site and just double check that the 832 S is either a normal burner or dual layer first,the only reason i know that it might not be a dual layer is because i had a SOHW 1213S burner,and luckily that one can be flashed,its now a SOHW1623 s dual layer.and if i am correct in saying the 832 S is just a normal burner,it's not flashable to a dual layer

@t1nemesis.

What original file are you burning from. Torrent or original backup?? I ask because if it is a torrent it might not be a complete file. The original should read (pal)5.6 gig in size.

Man I posted a link !!! It's definitely a dual layered burner. I think the problem is in the setup od DVD Decrypter. Maybe a reset to default for DVD Decrypter and then start again.

Is it set in PIO or DMA. I read somewhere that if you read a couple of dodgy disc's it can revert back to PIO mode.

obvious you don't like helping people out....and in my opinion it is GT4 related...he/she is asking for help on the burn settings for GT4 on decrypter as he/she is having trouble backing it up
