Samuels after you said this: ahhhh but theres where your wrong buddy,it has been copied, admittedly on pressed discs,it's not a protected game, sony just have used their head for once :) but never fear technology for their thinking won't be far away ;)you then say this: i personally don't think it has anything to do with the "modchips"...i still firmly believe it's with the DVD checks and an extra little surprise thrown in by the games developer...to try and stop people from making b/ups of their originals, but more so to stop the "so called pirates" from copying their software...I think you are confused!

Well, the HK guys have machines to press them. It's totally different from us, they have access to the same kinds of machines that Sony uses to print their own games. Think of it like this : A professional baker has a cookie cutter to make cookies exactly the same, every time. Our DVD burners are like having the dough, a knife, and trying to copy that cookie cutter shape. The pirates are like people who have the same cookie cutter that the baker uses. Get what I mean?

Anyways, they defeat protection, by simply COPYING the protection, in the exact same format that the originals were printed.

However, I have a question : Most pirated games ARENT playable on unmodded systems are they? I've seen a few printed games, but I don't think they were able to copy Sony's BIG protection, the bad data blocks.

Can anyone confirm / deny this?
I'm just asking out of curiosity.
I think it's totally wrong to pay for pirated materials. I don't really see too big a problem with backing up a game for personal use, however, I think it's a gigantic problem when some asian dude rips a game off, and makes his livelihood from selling it.

i think your right. They cant make bootable games, but they can do homebrew stuff like swap magic and gameshark by pressing over an original ps2 game (crazi taxi).

I find it interesting that Crazy Taxi is the game that's always printed on in order to make boot discs. Way back from the Dreamcast days, and then some.

now why would i be a bit confused?
it all boils down to the one(same) thing the DVD checks, the way it's been done, the usual DVD checks have been beaten,so far to my knowledge GT4 checks haven't been completely beaten,i mention "mod chips" because, like i said any chip can read the disc,it's just that it's those checks that i'm talking about, stops the disc from booting any further.

HERE...HERE.....i suppose it's my fault,BUT it was advertised as an ORIGINAL NTSC PS2 game on ...you guessed it E-BAY.i ordered metal gear solid 3 -snake eater last year, because they had delayed it 2-3 months here in oz land,it arrived, first look, looked original, but what got me thinking it was pirated, was there was no original PS2 box art and manual(as advertised).....so i looked at the disc more closely, the art work on the disc was impressive, but there was no PS2 logo to be found on it anywhere,or the game developers logo....then i looked underneath on the data side,no PS2 logos stamped into the data side either.....i got ripped off. hey and get this,i informed ebay australia, because thats who i went thru, they said because i paid cash, theres nothing they can do about it,and to report it to the relevant authorities....well bugger me dead WHAT relative authorities?? no-one wanted anything to do with it,AFP-they referred me to crimestoppers, because they say thats not their juristriction,CRIMESTOPPERS-informed me to get in touch with the AFP,ACCC they reffered me to a place that handles copyrights,THEY didn't want anything to do with it,this went on and on with different departments,so if you want to become a "pirate", australia is the place to be *L* your safe, because no-one seems to care about breaking any copyright laws, there appears to be no law enforcement agency that handles copyright infringements in australia.
sorry got off track a bit there...
i can't confirm/deny your question,i just commented on your "I think it's totally wrong to pay for pirated materials." part :)
however i can tell you that xbox games seem to be universal, mine is not modded and it plays NTSC games from the states, and so does my nephews xbox..but don't rush out and try it,i don't want to get the blame for saying "but you said" maybe iv'e been lucky,i dunno,

what are you talking about??
who am i incriminating? i just stated an experience that happened from an experiment on my part(NTSC playing on a PAL machine-un modded and original disc)....whats incriminating about that

P.S...if your talking about "pirating" authorities....well i speak the truth.....there does not appear to be any authorities down under that care about game copyright infringements....well actually i tell a li'l white lie...the only crowd that took the report seriously was SCEA(sony themselves).if i wanted a pirated game i could of done it myself...not pay full price for what was suppose to be an original PS2 game, that turned out to be a pirated copy

just a long shot here....has any one tried the adrenilin patching method? the method to fix booting problems with EA games...when i get time, and find all the relevant programmes i might give it a go,might be awhile before i get round to it....thats the reason why i asked if anyone has used this method yet, more so for a 1:1 copy without using any other kits out for GT4......just a thought, they might of resorted back to an old forgotten about method for newer DVD-ROM games

Hey wats up I would just wait to be honest,Sonix has made a tool called munge-o-matic.This tool really is what we need to be honest, reason why is that it has plugin support. We can input a .dll file to extract .VOL files.I'm not saying it will come anytime soon, but keep a lookout for this tool.I am sure it will come in handy with the .VOL extraction process.Once someone can supply the .VOL dll file plugin for this program things will take off for Swap Magic users ;).Not really familiar with the plugin .dll for .VOL files for this program, but just letting you know that this is a great tool that could extract the true files from the .VOL files.

Peace L-Burna

I have a modbo 1.1 in my pstwo and I flashed the Bios to 1.4 (beta) and that works fine!

Then:
I copied my original PAL GT4 on a dual layer disc using DVD Decrypter and it works like a charm!

So for al of you people with matrix chip or modbo or other clone the problem has been fixed!

Jas89,
I can't see why not.
Even so hopefully a dvd5 patch isn't far away so then you won't need dvd+dl support.
