What a waste of time, go out and spend £30 on the game and enjoy the original like i am now. Its as easy as that.

the majority of people on this forum HAVE spent the £30 on it (or £50 to be more realistic) but discs get scratched, lasers burn out etc. I don't mind paying £30/50 once but theres no way i'm paying it twice so for that reason, and i think a lot of people will agree, its NOT a waste of time!

Yes ok, thats why im subscribed to this forum and ive never ever ever burnt out a ps2 or messed a game up by scratching it, what do you do, go in the garden and play frisbee with it??? Get real!!! You back it up to save the original but why? Ok fair coment you dont want to ruin the original, but answer me this, how many back ups have you messed up through playing frisbee or chucking them around the room, the answer is probably none!!!!! The reason is because people dont even like wasting one or more disc in doing a shit backup, so they wouldn't treat a backup any worse than an original!!! Im not saying dont back up, because i do it all the time, what i am saying is you know the real reason and i know the real reason so stop kidding a kidder ok...................... the answer is probably about £30 or $40 dollars depending on where you live. Backups save you money, if you own a backup then look after it just like you would an original anyway! (this message probably excludes anyone with children under 15 as i know what they are like for messing up expensive games), make that 18!!!!!

you hit the nail on the head with that last sentence mate, it's not only me who uses this game, 2 of my younger brothers do too. i have every game backed up, some on disc, some on hard drive. also, with the races in this game lasting anywere up to 22 hours, i give the lasers about 2 months before they start popping! someone said earlier on this thread that they actually thot this game's sole purpose is to burn out the ps2's to co-incide with the release of the ps3... wouldn't surprise me tbh! and finally, i'm from the UK, so you are actually looking at £40/50 still. i don't mean to be patronising, but we ain't all into the 'other' uses of backing up games, some of us do have legit reasons for these patches.

its a game with a higher TOC (Table Of Contents) than the one you want to play, basically the TOC on the swap disc ain't big enough so you need to 'expand' it with an original game and a few patches/tools... i'm sure some of the more knowledgable ppl here can recommend 1 :-p

OK....can some one help me please :)....i'm brain fagged *L*..iv'e used toolboys kits,iv'e managed to create the 2 ISO's...i followed ,sorry iv'e forgotten the original posters handle on this subject, merging the 2 ISO's,how do i do it? the 2 ISO's are in my c:\test\granturismo4 folder with the name of 'realdvd9_layer0' & 'realdvd9_layer1'.i just want to test this on a D/L disc for a non HDD PS2..if that fails,i'm just in the proccess of making another ISO using the GT4_dvd9dl_all regions kit,the original kit didn't work for me,so i borrowed some 'ppf3 files from toolboys other kits,i get the message patching succesful,i just want to try both these options and would be appreciative if some one could help me merge the 2 ISO's as previously stated

Hey samuels...to quote part of kingade's post on the previous page...
4) MERGE THE .000 AND .001 FILES INTO A SINGLE ISO IMAGE.
THE EASIEST WAY TO MERGE THE FILES IS FROM A COMMAND SCREEN.
YOU WON'T HAVE TO INSTALL AN EXTRA PROGRAM THAT MAY NEED
EXTRA FILES TO WORK AND COME ON, ADMIT IT, DOS IS SO MUCH FUN!!
a)CLICK THE WINDOWS START BUTTON AND CLICK ON RUN.
b)TYPE CMD IN THE BOX AND HIT ENTER.
c)CHANGE THE DIRECTORY TO MATCH WHERE YOUR STAR.000 AND STAR.001
FILES ARE STORED.
EXAMPLE- IF THEY ARE ON THE C DRIVE, TYPE CD C:\ AND HIT ENTER.
IF THEY ARE ON ANOTHER DRIVE, TYPE THE DRIVE LETTER WITH A COLON AND HIT ENTER.
d)ONCE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DIRECTORY-
TYPE COPY/B STAR.000 + STAR.001 STAR.ISO AND THEN HIT ENTER.
e)WHEN IT'S FINISHED YOU WILL HAVE A NEW ISO IMAGE NAMED STAR.ISO THAT YOU CAN NOW BURN.
I'm not sure what the names of the files are that you are trying to merge, but in step d, replace STAR.000 and STAR.001 with the names of the two ISOs, and STAR.ISO with whatever name you want for the combined ISO.
Auctioner: Our first item is a pair of panties confiscated from a prostitute.
Quagmire: Fifty bucks.
Auctioner: She had nine STDs.
Quagmire: Forty-five bucks.
Auctioner: And when we caught her she wet herself.
Quagmire: Fifty bucks.

I agree, I've done my share of endurance races in GT3 and GT4, yet the laser seems just fine (v4)... I swap discs quite frequently, yet I see no scratches... and while I admit playing off HDD is quite handy, I can live without it...
some may have legitimate issues concerning backups, like the poster above (having little kids playing the same PS2), but let's be frank, people like to have things in possession, whether it's material, or immaterial, and want to pay as little as possible, if not free.
otherwise, we will all be subsribers to services such as gamefly.

:) iv'e tried that method....
c:\test\granturismo4 folder with the name of 'realdvd9_layer0' & 'realdvd9_layer1' thats whats in my folder
i'm just waiting to head into town, later this arvo or tommorrow,to get a couple of dual layered discs....i have one on my HDD,i modified the patches, well not exactly modified, swapped a couple around in toolboys kits, because i kept getting some errors, the usual you know ....error this file isn't recognised internally or externally....with the ppf3's i did a bit of swapping, hard to explain, but anyrate i went thru the procedure with the swapped ppf's and recieved no errors...so fingers crossed, the other method i did of toolboys as well, the one where you get the 2 ISO's seem to have come up with no errors as well, just stuck on merging

Because if it was that simple, this thread wouldn't be 25 pages long, extending from another thread that was 40 pages, and lasting over 4 months.
Read a little bit, man. If we could just burn it to a DVD+R DL, this problem would have been solved in January.

I followed the guide on PS2HD.COM to fix the ISO for hard drive use. When I completed the guide, I was left with a ISO named...
gt4_hdd.iso ... 2,613,621 KB
The only thing that I am concerned about is the file size. Hey Bassy...is this right???

ok.... apache 2 freezes up on me,so i can't tell,i found a merging tool on the net, don't know how reliable it is,as i couldn't merge using command,as stated on here previously,it certainly comes up with different #'s on decryptor...i haven't burnt it yet, haven't been to town to get D/L media
heres the #'s for the dvd all regions final
SOURCE:D:\PS2MERGED_GT4_REALDVD9_LAYER1.ISO
LABEL:GRANTURISMO4
SECTORS:2,743,326 (MODE 1/2048)
SIZE:5,618,331,648 bytes
TIME:609:39:51 (MM:SS:FF)
now looking at the source...it says merged gt4 realdvd9 layer1.iso
i loaded both 0 & 1 layer into the merge list,it took all of about 1/2 hr....just wondering if it got it all,any one tried this method?
these #'s are certainly different from original ISO using the dvd all regions kit and merging ISO's

by the way the merging tool i used was universal file splitter and merger.....looking at the 2 seperate ISO's i'd say it did merge it,whether correctly is another thing yet,i just loaded each ISO seperate and the #'s are different for each layer...like so
SOURCE:C:\...\GT_REALDVD9_LAYER0.ISO
LABEL:GRANTURISMO4
SECTORS:1,612,018(MODE 1/2048)
SIZE:3,301,412,864bytes
TIME:358:15:43(MM:SS:FF)
........................................................
SOURCE:SOURCE:C:\...\GT_REALDVD9_LAYER1.ISO
LABEL:GRANTURISMO4
SECTORS:1,131,308(MODE 1/2048)
SIZE:2,316,918,784bytes
TIME:251:26:08(MM:SS:FF)
.........................................................
i'll sacrifice a D/L disc tommorrow to see if it works,i'm pretty sure i followed the dvd9 all region tutorial thoroughly,*S* i must of done no errors came up....so heres hoping
.................................................................
some more reading if you can be bothered *L*.....the original untouched granturismo ISO and the merged ISO from the real dvd9 all regions kit.
original untouched ISO
SOURCE:D:\GRANTURISMO4
LABEL:GRANTURISMO
SECTORS:2,764,096(MODE 1/2048)
SIZE:5,660,868,608 bytes
TIME:614:16:46 (MM:SS:FF)
..............................................................

You can now play GT4 on HDloader. with the HDL_GT4 Patch
Also there is another patch for HDloader to support all Dual Layer (DVD9) in general.
