After so many working DVD5 copies, i tried to write one too. It goes up to 83% and then cancel it. Put it into PS2 and happens the same thing as usual. Loads till the menu screen and then black screen.
I used Verbatim DVD+R 16x writen at lowest allowed speed. I have the NEC 3520A with latest firmware. Any suggestions?!?

i dont even think alcohols method will work, the dual layer checks are still in place.
IF it does work excellent!, but i think its bullshit!
adn waht the points obviously some data will not be copied across, so you could get 90% through the game and boom, it locks up becuase there no data
Thanks

YES this method does work!!!! so lay off of alkohol....do you have all of the settings under dvd decrypter "settings" that were talked about earlier? ("burn-proof" and "Volume Lock" unchecked and "CSS Flag removal" and "REmove Macro Protection" checked)...if you are getting to the gt4 load screen with the speed dial spinning and it turns red...there is a quick fix that has about a 80% success rate...load your original disc onto the ps2....start a game (after it loaded all of the way(from the original) and then i pop in my backup while it is playing(i have a flip top)...and played the backup for awhile and saved on it and then turned the ps2 off and booted my backup using swap magic disc 3.3)..remember the actual burning of this game really only has a 75%-90% succes rate so proggress will very...and don't forget to burn at 1x or at the very fastest 2x...
AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO PUT INTO THIS FORUM THEN LEAVE...we are trying to help each other not argue and bicker like 4yr olds...MUCH LOVE TO ALL THAT ARE TRULY TRYING TO BRING THIS JOINT EFFORT TO LIFE...otherwise yo can kiss my pumpkin down there

@admanirv,
No one is "bullshiting" you dude period. Believe it or not it's your own freewill of choice. Evidently, it is your ignorant that's deceiving and leading you to where you are, so no offend. Obviously, the point is it's the "only successful DVD5" and this is the only backed up that can be boot and play flawlessly at this moment. I could careless about the lock up issue simply because I have both the DVD9 and DVD5. Oh and I've been playing like 3 hrs a day for 2 weeks now and no freezing, no glitch what-so-ever.

if you use isobuster to remove the epson printer files etc... then more of the gt4 will get on the dvd5 with the 83% method. Cos all these wills are on layer 1 so they would be put on early on. btw has anyone tried crazy ideas like renaming the .vol files to .iso or .zip and see if they open up or even trying the installshield .cab readers?? i've sold my copy of gt4 so i can't try it but still keeping an eye on things.

Just some points about Alkohol's method.
1. DVD+Rs work best. DVD-Rs will not attemp overburn with DVD Decrypter. I have had a working -R disk but I had to use a file splitter to cut the end off the image and it took many burn attempts to get it to work and even then, I have to boot several times before it'll work.
2. Slower speeds work better. Use the lowest speed your drive supports. I put in 1x but drive min is 2x and it burned at 2x speed so just put in 1x.
3. It does work with most modchips that support DVD+Rs and it's also known to work with SWAP MAGIC.
4. Game is only 83-88% complete using this method. It's a good way for the pirates to get a play of the game, but is not totally ideal as a backup disk. We need to work on getting a FULL DVD-5 copy and that is what this thread is trying to achieve.
5. In order for the game to load past copyright screen, you must patch with Toxic. This gets rid of the path check for the second layer, which obviously is missing on a DVD-5.
There! I think I got it all. If I missed anything, someone holler!
PS Thanks for hex workshop links guys. Haven't had much time but will get into it later on.

@simpsim1,
Yes... it loads and plays flawlessly without a glitch. Put Swap Magic 3.6 Plus (DVD disc) in my PS2 v9, Swap Magic load up Main Menu, Open up Flip Top cover, put my DVD5 GT4 on, close Flip Top cover, Hit [X] to boot up, and presto..... game starts loading beautifully. By the way, mine is a 88% success. I'm trying something new to see if I can get a success of a 100% DVD5 in the mean time. So, keep trying alright.

anyone tried modifying the gt4 movie ripper to delete rather than copy the files?,i'm sure its just a case of changing a letter in the program, and if you view the files first, you can take out the movies you know you're not gonna need.if anyone can give me the name of a good program to view the gt4volextractor.exe files then i'll try (with my extremely limited knowledge of dos programming!)to sort it out, bring back the zx speccy file system, you only had to have two tape decks to copy games!!,those were the days

holy f**k!!,seems like programs aint what they used to be,i used pe explorer to open it and found the files to be extracted but i haven't a clue where the command to copy them is,if somebody knows dos,i think its a case of deleting the entries you want to keep,(pss files),changing the command from copy to delete, and running the program (it should reduce the size of the .vol file after running)

@Speccyfan. Is this enough inforation about the COPY command?
Hmmm! I wonder If the bb code tag works in this forum...
[code]
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Copies one or more files to another location.
COPY [/D] [/V] [/N] [/Y | /-Y] [/Z] [/A | /B ] source [/A | /B]
[+ source [/A | /B] [+ ...]] [destination [/A | /B]]
source Specifies the file or files to be copied.
/A Indicates an ASCII text file.
/B Indicates a binary file.
/D Allow the destination file to be created decrypted
destination Specifies the directory and/or filename for the new file(s).
/V Verifies that new files are written correctly.
/N Uses short filename, if available, when copying a file with a
non-8dot3 name.
/Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an
existing destination file.
/-Y Causes prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an
existing destination file.
/Z Copies networked files in restartable mode.
The switch /Y may be preset in the COPYCMD environment variable.
This may be overridden with /-Y on the command line. Default is

I'll try not to flood the thread too much but I just read back a little..
Spencer80, DVD Decrypter is the only burning program that will let you do a DVD Overburn with more data than the disk will hold (It's a quirk of the program which has become invaluable for this task). Alcohol 120% does not let you even attempt to burn, it just ejects the disk.
I know it's a tiringly long thread and I'm probably contributing to it, but you need to read the whole thing if you haven't already done so, because repeating the instructions over and over is just making the thing even longer.
It needs to be said BTW that this method is not guaranteed to work for everybody. Those that have struggled with the Dual layer disk may find the same problems with this because Some PS2s just don't like DVD+Rs at all (Modchip or PS2? Not sure).

I think I failed the second try :(
I passed the dvd checks, loaded my save and... black screen!
When you said " my game hasn't the main menu" does it mean that my copy is burned in the right way?
Thank you, your work is great

Truzzone can you pop your disk in your drive and give me a copy of the readout from DVD Decrypter?
Joy83 if you're still there, Your writer is an LG. Give that a try in DVD Decrypter.
