it's not illegal to download a save game.
for the game winning eleven u can easily download a bin/cue file (cd2mem) option files.
so are gt4 option files on the net?

Hi!

I have a problem when trying to play my GT4 backup. My PS2 version is V3, there is a DUO2SE modchip inside, I successfully applied the Toxic Patch to the GT4 image, the backup DL disc was burnt using DVD-ROM book type and it still does not work :(

Sometimes if I try to play it, the Red Screen of Death appears. Otherwise the console is loading, loading and it finishes with a Disc Error message. What should I do? Try to clear the laser of my PS2 somehow? Or maybe there is a special method of running DL backups on DUO2SE? Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

I've read through some of this thread and so what you are saying is that you cannot shrink the iso to fit on a dvd5? is it possible to burn dvd9 discs on a pioneer 107?

We can't shrink the iso YET! Work continues...

To findout if your Writer will support DVD9 you need to use Nero info tool or something similar. Nero Info Tool will tell you what your drive will read from and what it'll write to.

Gotta say one thing here. Hate to bang on the same old drum but we are not pirates here... well most of us lol. Most of us have paid for this game and have also paid for a shedload of media to get this thing working, not to mention the sheer amount of sleepless nights and lost days spent making coasters. Questions like "Will this torrent work?" etc. belong in a piracy group somewhere. That said, I'm always prepared to do my bit, so I'll tell you what I know.

If you're gonna download this thing you need to make sure you get an unpatched iso image of the original. There is then no reason at all why it should not burn to a DVD-9 with the Toxic patch applied, using the guides found in this thread. I'll not go any further because I'm not going to upset the genuine game owners in this forum.

if you are getting a RSOD(red screen of death)you are doing something wrong, read the read me that came with the patch....there is no special method of running DL media for the duo2 SE.
if after you follow the read me text correctly(as it tells you why you get the RSOD)the only thing that i can say to you is that your PS2 is too old V3??....mines a ver 10 or 11 with a duo 2SE works flawlessly.just put it in and away she goes.

Here's one for the pirates and the cheaters. The only help you'll get from me here...

You can download a gamesave from http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/save/gran_turismo_4_d.max

Info on how to get save onto memcard can be found at http://www.forumcommunity.net/?t=903119&view=getlastpost

BE WARNED though, this is a real cheat.... 100% completed with gold cups all round lol. Pretty much spoils the game but the formula one car is the dogs bo***cks!!

Giving another progress report so you can see that I'm not quitting yet...

I've got the larger movies downsampled using TMPGEnc. It was actually quite straightforward once I got my head round it. I used a program called PSS Plex to Demux the PSS file, DVD2AVI to create a d2v file (The index file for TMPGEnc), downsampled to 1000 Kbps using TMPGEnc and finally remuxed with PSS Plex. The resulting movies are a little blocky but if it works that's a small price to pay.

I used the hex editor to try and splice the movies directly into the ISO file, but the difference in filesize screws with the TOC and the game freezes before the intro movie.

My next step is going to be to splice them into their respective places in the gt4l1.vol file. Then once rebuilt I will probably have to use ppf patches to get past the disk checks. Does anyone have a link to the hdd patches that Toolboy made?

i did alkohol's method, and the one with team toxix patch
but i get the beginning screen and then i turns black, with toxic new iso the screen turns black and i see a memory card rightabove but then it stops.... i use swap magic 2.0. i dont know the decrypter settings i cant find them for the dvd5 version. but i guess it did that part well. My other friend has the same problem.

Think you might need Swap Magic versions 3 or above, due to the TOC size. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There are more gamesaves at http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/save/561066.html by the way, did one for someone else who didn't want to cheat quite so much lol. Also note that some are NA and some are EU. I think you need EU for PAL version and NA for NTSC which is the version I have. If that save is the one you're using you may encounter freeze at autoload.

@simpsim1

I disagree that it needs to be a saved game from in your garage. I have never saved from my garage(with original or my backup dvd5)and mine always boots with no problem.

My ps2 is a v10 and I am not sure at all what chip I have as someone else installed it for me.

I'm using Alkohol's method, with toxic patch.

Thanks for the info Deejay101, Swap Magic 2 is obviously OK then. Must be the game save causing Justjer's freeze.

@canuck07, you're right! It doesn't have to be saved from inside the garage, but it needs to be saved from somewhere in the game.

If you're making your own save, you need to make sure you get the right save for your version, either North American (NA) or European (EU) as the versions are different.

Well it's work now

The problem was I did a save in the garage, but you must change the option settings that Gran turismo must turn off the intro movie!

dont know if this is any help, but the HK Silver Pressed version of GT4 seems to just display a grey colour screen Instead of a Intro movie that gets lighter and lighter every 10 or so seconds untill its bright white... Im guessing this is where a Intro Movie used to be as I cant get any intro movie to play BUT the game crashes when left on this Grey screen. So, to stop it crashing what I do is before the screen comes on, keep hitting X (or start) so as soon as that black gray coloured screen comes on, it just skips it straight away and the game loads up...

The Grey Screen comes up after it has auto loaded off the memory card.

I hadn't noticed that. Since I never watch the movie right through anyway, I'd not waited to see if it continued onto the menus from the end.... It doesn't. So to avoid a freeze, just make sure you click X or whatever to cancel the movie.

This thread seems to have gone very quiet all of a sudden. So I'm assuming that most people are happy with the backups as they are now. Either the DVD-9 or the 88% DVD-5 versions are obviously working okay for most people. The DVD-5 disk seems to address most of the compatibility issues as I've yet to find a machine it doesn't work on (DVD+R still iffy on some PS2s but the DVD-R made using HJSplit works on anything with a modchip or Swap Magic).

As for me, I'm still working on a complete DVD-5. I'm making good progress too. Not that it's an easy task.... I think the final solution may be some sort of patch as the whole process will be quite advanced for the average backer-upper. Whether what I'm trying is going to succeed, I really can't say. I really could do with some brains to pick regarding how the vol filesystem works and whether just splicing information in place of old stuff will work without relinking will actually work or not. I'm going to try and work with what I've got for now and hope for the best. One thing for sure though, I'm not giving up on this just yet......

mkay.. i'm quite new here, and i have read those last pages and i just wanted to know if i make the iso from original game.. is the default settings good enough?.. tho some said use ALKOHOL settings.. where can i get these settings? Then another thing is.. i have the usual dvd burner and when i made the iso it says 5.27gb.. not 7.55gb which is probably with the second layer.. but can i still patch my game with toxic and split it using winhex and burn it to dvd5..
sry for my english and if i missed something that's already said in this topic.. i tried searching something about alkohol settings.. but that didn't help much.

@m3ph I did mine slightly differently. I Used
HJSplit - http://www.freebyte.com/download/hjsplit.zip - to spilt the iso to 4460Mb (You end up with 2 files, one ending .001 and one .002), renamed the GRANTURISMO4.ISO.001 file to image.iso and burned the image.iso file using DVD Decrypter on default settings, burning at 4X speed. Image needs to be patched with toxic patch BEFORE splitting. Image size of gt4 varies depending on which version you have. The NTSC verion is 4.95Gb whilst the PAL version is a whopping 5.27Gb (I suspect due to PAL being higher resolution). The guide using winhex earlier was originally designed for another game, but it works with this as well.

@simpsim1,

I'm glad that you're still in the process of getting a fully functional 100% on a single DVD5 disc.<---- I hate to say it, but it's hella hard isn't it, but don't give up yet because I have my faith in you. You're truly a hero and yes... I do mean it. It's good to know that you're still making progress regardless of the issues overall.

Apparently, I've tried almost everything from "Iso Buster, Sony's CDVD Gen, LBA Extractor v1.2 Alternative, Gnie's IML2ISO v4.01, WinHex, Apache2, and a Dummy1part0 from ps2 backup tool" and they all seems to fail with the 100% rebuild afterall. However, I strongly deem that GT4 can be cracked into a 100% fully working on a DVD5 with the right toolkits and patch, but it's only a matter of times that's all and only time will tell. I mean think about it, God Of War is even bigger than GT4, and GOW was cracked easily with the right tools.

Until then, I'm waiting to see a genius or you have a successfully made GT4 on a DVD5 disc. Keep up the good works.

I'm just trying to follow my instincts rather than to follow guides already published. I spliced two of the downsized movies into the vol file and then used the extractor to get them out again and see if they still worked. They did but windows reported the filesize as the original size not as the new size. The vol file is obviously some sort of archive (Rather like a zip file). With a little luck, this size reporting might work in my favour. I'll find out hopefully over the next couple of days or so.

EDIT: Oh ok! So they didn't all work with darthi8nt's extractor. the filesize was reported wrong because the extractor uses the byte addresses to rip from and does not actually look for the pss files. RipPSS does though and reports filesizes spot on.
