Thanks stingray5, i appreciate your advice :) However I have already had a mod chip put in so I won't have to worry about any of that.

Make sure you get a switch installed on the mod-chip so you can turn it off. A lot of the on-line games will detect it.

X-Box is the worst, if they detect a mod-chip they read in the serial number from the CPU and black list the box so even if you sell it to somebody they will not be able to use it to play On-Line with X-Box Live.

What chip did you get installed and how much to have it installed?

Thanks everyone before who helped me before, I finally got the burner to work right. I guess I was not finallizing my disc after I burned them, I thought it was like CDs where it would do it itself but I guess I have to tell the burner to do it (I got it to work with Roxio 6.). But now I have two new problems:
1.) I was recently trying to back-up Soul Calibur 2, and did it successfully, but when I put it in the PS2 the game got hung up the blue bordered screen. I burned the game on both a 2x Verbatim dvd-r using the drag-to-disc method form the HD, then I used a 4x fuji dvd-r using the disc-to-disc method. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem with that game. I read something about a CSS protection, I wonder if that could be it and if it is how do I bypass it or remove it?
2.) I was also wondering before I offically name those unfinallized discs as coasters, does anyone know if there is a way I can go back and finallize them so they can be some use to me? I have alcohol 120%, DVD Decrptor, and Roxio 6 burning softwares. If anyone knows if there is a way to do it on any of those softwares I appreciate it. Thanks

Here are the instructions on how to play Soul Calibur 2 using your Flip Top Cover and your Swap Magic Discs(SMD):

1. Download cdloader and burn it to a cdr.
2. Insert your CD SMD and wait until it says "Insert Disc."
3. Use your Flip Top Cover to swap the CD SMD with the cdloader disc that you burned and then Press the X button.
4. When the cdloader loads, Press the Triangle button and the disc tray will open.
5. Replace the cdloader disc with your DVD SMD and Press the Triangle button once more to close the disc tray.
6. Press the X button and wait until it says to change disc using ea method.
7. Use your Flip Top Cover to swap your DVD SMD with your backup DVD of Soul Calibur 2.
8. Press the X button once more and you are set to go.

Thanks for the good info Kila, but I have a new problem. I think I downloaded a bad CDLoader. I have a version 3 PS2 and downloaded the CDLoader file then unzipped it, then burned the .iso file to a cd, but after I booted the SMD Cd I got the red screen. I downloaded the .iso (which was 528 kb) from 2 different sites and got the same result. does anyone know if I am doing something wrong?

Try burning it at slower speed and to a good brand like memorex.

You can get a working cdloader on this site. Just download the ISO Image and burn to a cd.

Hopefully it will make it to February 27, 2004. That date will be the Flip Top covers thread first anniversary!

Yeah earlier i had a problem with my flip top because it would not read burned dvd's properly... it had also affected my blue disk cd for the ps2 that i had gotten. LIke the socom 2 beta... after a while of opening and closing and reinserting the disk because it would not read, I got fed up and decided to look for my cd lens cleaner. Not the brightest idea because i don't think it works properly in a ps2 but it did the job. I got it to play for approximately 10 minutes of cleaning and now the games work fine. I guess all the inserting of burned games and such using the flip top allowed dirt and dust to get on the lens. So my advice if you are having trouble with loading dvd's and games and had the flip top for a couple months is to try a cd lens cleaner. WARNING : I may be wrong so don't blame me anybody else have a thought on what i said?

It is best to always check it with a good magnifying glass or scope. You will be suprised that there is still fibers or dirt still on the lense.

Okay...so I ordered my fliptop and discs yesterday. They were sent out yesterday USPS Priority so I should see them in another day or two. QUESTION : I made a disc image of Need For Speed HP2 and the imaging program told me there were disc read errors and that I should check the disc image (original is seriously scratched ) . I can't do this til after I burn the game onto a disc. Don't want to make a coaster so I need to know : Does the PS2 read DVD-RW's if I make a test copy ? This way if the image is bad because of the rrors , I don't waste a blank DVD-r .

it's still a hit and miss with dvd-rw's and ps2. Some of the newer systems will read them, although my v7 won't and I don't know why.

ps2 v7 with matrix infinity and 160gb hdd
pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom
Windows XP Pro
psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware
Gamecube with SD Media launcher, SD Gecko, and Action Replay.

So the fliptop is installed and my backup copy of War of The Monsters works beautifully. Took about 15 minutes to install ( Damn ribbon cable) and all is good. I used DVD Decrypter to make iso and then burned also using Decrypter with a Pioneer 105 DVD-R burner. I'm on an old pc ( compaq Presario 1900 laptop running Windows 98. 500 mhz . ) But am going to try with my Imac and Toast when I get more blank dvd-r's . Thanks again to all on this thread .Peace.

Hi, I've read just about every page on this thread looking for help on my clock tower 3 backup. Have 2 fliptops old one w/modchip and fliptop and newer with just fliptop. From what i read clocktower 3 needs cdloader. Cdloader works with newer fliptop but won't load clocktower. Burnt with recordnow; verbatim datalife dvd-r; pioneer104. Have backuped several of my games successfully. This is the first problem run into. Old ps2 won't take cdloader at all. Any suggestions appreciated!! Found lots of good info from you all so far - keep up good work.

yes fliptop will work with PAL ps2 and you need a boot disc such as swap magic or action replay/gameshark but if i were you i'd wait till end of october till the new swap magic version 3 is released as it has improved compatability with double check games and should remove the need for for extra boot programs like cd loader meaning you will only need to swap disc's once rather than 3 times to get some games to load

Okay...I don't know if the new swap disks will allow you to play online but here is a list of what I have backed up so far :
Chaos Legion
Ico
SSX
Enter The Matrix
Zone of The Enders 2: The Second Runner
Final Fantasy X
War of The Monsters.
Other than War of The Monsters , which was burned using DVD Decrypter...everything was done using Nero-DVD Copy-On The Fly-1x Burn speed using Optodisc 4.7 DVD-R on an old Compaq Presario 1900 running Windows 98. Other than a problem with Ico (cd game) being burned at too high a speed , everything works beautifully. Ico now works after I burned on Memorex CD-R at 1x speed. I decided not to do any burning on my IMAC since this is going really well so far with the PC laptop. My burner is a Pioneer 105 (Lacie casing) . Laters.

Some of the On-Line sites now detect the Swap Magic Discs. I have found out right from the Manufacture that the Swap Magic 3.0 will not be out until December or the End of December as they are in beta testing and have to also stamp them out yet after that.

Just some information for you X-Box users out there. When you install a X-Box chip you must install a swtich to play on-line and turn off the chip every time. So you have to use oringinal games to play on-line and very important if you forget to turn off the switch then X-Box Live servers will read in the serial number on the CPU (It is like a PC computer CPU) and black list the console you are using. There is no way to fix it other then to get a new CPU or a new X-Box. They are not black listing you they are black listing the console so that means if you sell the X-Box to anybody they will not be able to play on-line either.

One thing I like about the X-Box is that I found out I can put in a 250 Gig hard drive in it and cpoy games to the hard drive then run them from a menu. I like the joypad for shooting games as it has a trigger in front, not buttons like the PlayStation. But I think the graphics are better on my PlayStation 2 though.
