Ok, I have just completed an entire read of this list in one "work" day. ;)
A couple of questions: I just bought my PS2 two days ago, so I assume it's a v9? I don't have it here at work to check out, but I will when I get home.
When this list refers to "v7" PS2's, is it actually referring to "v7 and above" PS2's? So, the CDLoader CD won't help me?
Thanks for all the great posts.

Devilhunt:
The problem is, I don't have any mods done right now. I would rather get a Magic chip if the CD loader doesn't work for v9 PS2's.
If it does work, I'll just use the flip-top.
I don't want to get the flip-top and then find that it doesn't work.
Does anyone else have any knowledge of the newest PS2 versions?

No the cd loader does not work on version 9 of ps2.I just bought my ps2 a month ago.It wont work because of what it is a CD loader.Version Ps2`s do not support swap magic 2.0 cd.Only the swap magic 2.0 dvd. There for you cant use cd loader. In case it can be burned to dvd and used wich i havent tried.Correct me if im wrong anyone.please.

I have a quick question? I have a version 4 PS2 and have a Non-solder mod chip which plays my back-ups of CD-R's PS2 Games with the Help of Gameshark 2 start up disk and they have worked like a charme ever since. I just bought me a HP 300i DVD-R and I'm trying to back up my Vice City Game. I used Nero to burn the image from an ISO file from DVD Decrypter And it didn't work, after I use Gameshark 2 as my start up and it asks for the Back-up Game, Nothing happens. So my CD-R back ups work but I need to find out how to burn or make DVD-or+R Backups. Thank You in Advanced.

not sure if i get what you're asking but it sounds like you need a step by step of how to load the game after you burn it. that's simple, just insert your swap magic disc (cd disc for cd backups, DVD disc for DVD backups) and boot up the PS2, after it get's to a screen that says "insert disc" just lift the flipt top lid and remove the swap magic disc and insert your backup and hit the X on the controller. You have to be careful to insert the left side of the disc first so it goes under the lip on the left side of the tray, the lip is there for those that like to use their PS2 in the vertical position. alot of people have trouble with this at first but after you do it a few times you'll see what i mean. if it makes a terrible noise when you try to load the game and the screen has a pink border and just freezes, chances are that the disc isn't under that lip i refered too. let me know if that wasn't the question. oh btw, i aint no spring chicken myself ;)

THANK YOU DARTHNIP....WE'VE BEEN WONDERFUL...I WILL TRY THIS WITH MY GRANDSON TOMORROW..ON THE SITE THAT YOU MENTIONED (WWW.MODCHIPKITS.COM) THERE DIRECTIONS ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT.AFTER DIRECTIONS THAT SAY "INSERT dISC" THEY SAY TO HOLD DOWN THE "eJECT" BUTTON UNTIL THE POWER INDICATOR TURNS FROM GREEN TO ORANGE. THE TRAY WILL OPEN, CHANGE THE SWAP MAGIC DISK WITH YOU PS2 BACKUP GAME.TRAY WILL CLOSE IN ABOUT 5-10SECONDS. THEN PRESS"X" ON YOUR CONTROLLER. THE BACKUP WILL NOW LOAD...PLEASE ADVISE ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE WITH THEIR INSTRUCTIONS AND YOURS. AGAIN A MILLION THANKS...HAPPY HOLIDAY

Tom,
I believe that when they are refering to holding down the eject button, that they are talking about a ps2 that has a modchip. If you are using just the fliptop, then follow darthnips instructions.

yes tom and wulfie (hey man) - those instructions are for the no-solder chips. with a fliptop, you'll never need the eject button if you dont want to use it. but keep in mind that if you open it while playing a game, the disc is traveling at a very high RPM and could possibly (rarely ever) fly out and take your head clean off!! i only use my eject button to load an original game or DVD. one of the common failure modes of the PS2's is that the tray motor goes out, but with a fliptop, you never have to worry about that, if the motor does go out, you're still fine and fully functional.
and btw Tom, please refrain from using all caps, it technically is against forum rules, but even worse, we all think you're yelling at us!! :)

you can also boot the backups with any game with a very large TOC like devil may cry or GTA3. but the game you bott wiht has to be bigger than the backup you want to play. I've never done it but from what i've read you gotta boot the original to the main menu, then the disc will stop spinning, thats when you do the swap.

I believe they both play the same amount of games cause they are both dependant on the swap magic discs...
ps2 v7 with matrix infinity and 160gb hdd
pioneer a05 dvd-rw
Nero Burning Rom
Windows XP Pro
psp with 3.40oe-a custom firmware
Gamecube with SD Media launcher, SD Gecko, and Action Replay.

can someone be a little more specific on how to use the flip top with games that have a larger toc file? this approach doesnt seem to practical since there will always be a game that you cant play. starting by the fact that i already own a flip top, what are my options for boot disks? can someone explain how to do every alternative, and how easy each of them is, as well as how expensive? Thank you
