Well. I attempted to make a backup of 40 Year Old Virgin tonight, of which was going very well (or should I say since I have done atleast 70 backups, went as -usual-) until the reboot.

To clarify. DVD Shrink was just finishing the deep analysis (was ripping to an ISO) when AnyDVD popped up with its notification that a new version was available. Well then. I like to stay up to date and I like to stay up to date like yesterday. So I halted the analysis, downloaded the new version of AnyDVD, installed, rebooted.. then went to continue performing the backup..

Go to "Open Disc" in DVD Shrink.. now I get "Invalid DVD navigation structure".....

Almost as if Slysoft broke Accros protection removal.. I'm sure it's just an "oops" and they will fix it soon. I've made them aware of it.. but figured I would try to save someone any possible hassle.

Are you restarting the analysis from where left off, or using the origonal disc again with AnyDVD and shrink?

Were the files already ripped to the HD?

So you are connected to the internet & have your anti-virus running when you rip & burn? That could be the problem.

Great point pulsar, I missed that.

You should not multi-task while making back ups. Leads to issues.

What version is the update?

I have been shrinking today and have recieved no message.

I just shut off my auto-update on my anti-virus. I also close any programs that might access the net. I don't have any problem burning or ripping after doing this.

When ripping & burning you should not multi-task, I even turn off my screensaver, just in case!
HexLuther, I am also interested in your PCs specs, I take it you also regularly de-frag & keep you system running sweet?

@9mmruger, I like your photos in your profile page. In the UK the gun laws are ridiculous. Wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of you! LOL!!

i have my avg free edition running and i will wander the net and download things while i am ripping/burning and i haven't had any problems.

i have a sony vaio pcv-rx670 1.8 ghz with an 80 gig hd. my burner is a sony dru-700a. maybe i'm lucky, but could there be a quality hit on the dvd backup from doing all of this?

You really are risking read or burn errors if you multi-task. I can only say that you are very lucky & are the exception rather than the rule on this one.
You would not lose on quality persee, but as I say, you are tempting fate on errors.

Wow. Many miscomprehensions.

I'm not running an anti-virus. Period. I check for them time to time and I do not have any. Period. :) Not sure how I implied I was, lol, sorry.

Computer specs:

Opteron 280 - 2GB RAM - 7800GTX 512MB - NEC ND3550A DVD-RW - Windows XP Home

Also, wasn't trying to install software while I was burning. Lets assume I'm not an idiot. :)

"To clarify. DVD Shrink was just finishing the deep analysis (was ripping to an ISO) when AnyDVD popped up with its notification that a new version was available. Well then. I like to stay up to date and I like to stay up to date like yesterday. "So I halted the analysis..." :)

Also to answer 9mm, no files were made and if they were I deleted them before restarting.

I am connected to the internet while ripping, though, have been for 70+ backups. :(

Defrag is definitely done often.. usually after 8-10 backups performed (at which point its on an average of 20% fragmented already by then).

Hopefully I was able to clear things up. Thank you for the help.

The only way for that message to appear is for AnyDvd to be connected to the internet, most people have an anti-virus installed on their PC, ergo you were reading/burning whilst on the net! Hence I deduced you had an anti-virus. I will alter my previous post. Not only that, someone else joined the conversation!

I never said nor inferred/implied you were an idiot.

Pulsar. Just my manner of speaking.. and wasnt directed at any particular person.

Was a blunt non-tactful way of saying to the longer winded, "I have taken all precautions, have the latest version of everything possible, computer is very stable running Prime, I do not attempt to multi-task while burning and I do not have an anti-virus program running while burning and/or ripping as well" :)

Besides, it seems SlySoft ninja upgraded their version from 5.7.1.1 to 5.7.2.1 but yet do not show a history entry for 5.7.1.1.. Funny how that works.

They're aware that Im still on the trial basis of their software as well and I obviously caught their error/bug soon enough that they could totally skip any mention/listing of their buggy/errored 5.7.1.1 though did not offer a reduced price, etc. I did not "expect" it, though, well, it would be the courteous thing to do.

That all being said. I'm going to upgrade to 5.7.2.1 now and see if that resolves the issue. Should anyone doubt that a 5.7.1.1 exist, I will be sure to keep that versions installation program/setup file on my hard drive -- as I would hate to have my integrity questioned. :)

Hi,
Check out my thread for AnyDVD 5.7.1.1. which shows this version updated after just a few hours. Shows log history & difference between 5.7.1.1. & 5.7.2.1.
Happy new year everybody.

Doesnt show the history which is what I based my comment concerning no history, just fyi.

I will check out your post, but, unfortunately, right now I'm slightly disappointed and definitely frustrated at AnyDVD right now.

In fact, I would like to respectfully request 5.6.3.1 setup/installation from someone. Things worked perfectly using that version and since the only thing that changed from when things worked perfectly between that version and the newest version (not to mention the version hours before it) was an upgrade of AnyDVD then a reboot. I can only deduct that the problem lies with AnyDVD.

Anyone else runnning the latest and greatest version of AnyDVD with any new problems? Also, anyone running it -without- any problems?

@HexLuther

I am using the current AnyDVD and did 5 backups today without a hitch. Granted, not new issues, but still no issues.

@Pulsar

No worries friend, I tend to be a pussycat most of the time. The UK definately has gun issues. I noted that while I was there in the early 70's. Lot's of skinhead gangs at that time.

Happy New year!

I downloaded the new version a couple hours ago and have Fantastic 4 ripping as I write this.

I think you should delete the analysis results from the first rip and start over. It's not too hard to confuse Shrink. I'm just thinking that the first analysis results you got were from the earlier version and then when you tried to do the encoding, you had the newer version installed.

My Shrink Encoding window is showing:
Decryption Status: Not Encrypted
Rate : 11,198 KB/s

So it seems to be working...and it just finished!
Processing time: 8 min 29 sec.

Hi,
LexLuther
Shame you didn't read my post, before making yours. As it shows that history was identical except for "5.7.1.1 had an additional language file (Portuguese brazil) which was not mentioned in the changelog. But this file was corrupted, so it was removed from 5.7.2.1" James @ slysoft. Maybe this contributed to your problem.

I do not think that AnyDVD is the problem here, something else is going on. I only really use Clonedvd2, so I cannot comment on shrink

James. Shame your post was edited, finally adding the history change, after I had already made my initial post. :(

Timestamp to your post: "was edited on 1. January 2006 @ 09:50"

Timestamp of my post: "1. January 2006 @ 06:24"

Not entirely certain how a corrupt language file (when I use English, thus never loading the Portugues/Brazil), but.

I've been working on this issue, reading, replying, posting and submitting trouble tickets to Slysoft for hours now.

If the problem is DVD Shrink when everything is said and done, I'll try to be the first to say so. Until then. I cannot see how its not AnyDVD.

-Nothing else changed-. Absolutely nothing, besides AnyDVD. <shrug>

There are very few progs that AnyDvd does not get on with, especially Shrink! I am a bit baffled here as to what the problem is. Do you have any other progs to try?

Here is a quote from one of your posts;

"I do not attempt to multi-task while burning and I do not have an anti-virus program running while burning and/or ripping as well" :

But you previously said;

"when AnyDVD popped up with its notification that a new version was available. Well then. I like to stay up to date and I like to stay up to date like yesterday. So I halted the analysis,"

If you are on the internet, you are muti-tasking, you HAVE to be on the internet for AnyDvd to pop up. So I really do not know what to believe here, either you are, or you are not muti-tasking!

I am really confused as to what you infer as muti-tasking.

Now do you see why there is confusion?

@Pulsar

Yes actually, I think I failed to mention it in the thread, but I do know that included this "updated" situation in a support ticket to Slysoft.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD. Then I attempted to use DVD Shrink on the files. After trying this I receive an "Invalid data in file "C:
dvd_temp2\VIDEO_TS\VTS_09_1.VOB" when attempting to open the dvd files using DVD Shink. Hopefully this is of some help to you, as everything worked flawless immediately before upgrading AnyDVD versions.

I believe the use of VOB Blanker is what would resolve this issue, not positive as I have -never- had to use it (and didnt have to use it for Shrink to start working as it was using 5.6.3.1). But..

Then I tried a recommendation from John at Slysoft of copying the VIDEO_TS directory on the DVD directory to the hard drive, then using DVD Shrink on that directory. It failed, I again received an "Invalid DVD navigation structure"

I mean, it truly is as if its not removing/disabling the Accros protection or something.

@Pulsar

I do not consider simply having an active TCP/IP connection as multi-tasking. Labeling it as multi-tasking is incorrect in my opinion (I've made quite a few programs where I deal with the TCP/IP stack using multiple protocols), because then -everyone- is multi-tasking since the resizing of a page file is more agressive/CPU intensive than send a few k of packet information via TCP/IP. :)

Though, if its still a concern.. I've done all my ripping/encoding and burning while "connected" to the internet.

Are you sure you deleted the initial analysis results?

Mine are located C:\Docs and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink. Lot of folks miss those...
Why are you using Decrypter first? Seems to me you could just open the DVD in Shrink and proceed.

Sorry, I see it now.
That attempt would have given you a new analysis file with the updated program so it would not have mattered if you still had the file from the original.

I'm sure you are in good hands with Slysoft though. If they do determine it's a problem then they are quick about providing a new update.
BTW, have you had a chance to try it with a different movie?
