Yes actually. I just completed making a successful backup of "The Forgotten", though "Pirates of the Carribean" gives me the same "Invalid DVD navigation structure" error, whereas before it was simply a pain to rip.

I did Pirates and The Forgotten (maybe just lucky) with nothing more that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink.
And I can see everyones concerns about multitasking and all but during the encoding process there should be no harm unless you are running a very underpowered PC, which it looks like no one here is. Multitasking during the burn is where you have to slide away from the machine...
Just seems like everyone is beating a dead horse...

So for 2years I've been backing up my movies with Norton Internet Security and Antivirus running while connected to the internet but not actually surfing, so far I've been lucky I guess since my movies have not been a problem. I'll try disconnecting and disabling antivirus in the future. I have never run other programs while ripping and burning. I'm learning so I continue to return to AD. I've even used Memosux DVDs, but not lately.

It truly appears as if not everyone keeps themselves up to date with the thread. Whats all this beating a dead horse and leading a horse to water?
I can only assume they're directed towards someone else, if thats the case, any possibility we can get back to the topic... and those with other issues create your own thread?

I was actually trying to stick up for you there Hex, others beating a dead horse about the whole "multitasking" bit. On the other hand I'm sorry you're having problems with the SlySoft products, in my opinion they are excellent and irreplacable...sounds like you've just got a bad deal. And I have read the whole thread.
But since most of your posts have been so defensive and kinda picking back at everyone who is trying to help, I will take your advice and move on to another thread...happy burning.

I'm getting the exact same error when I try to back up American Pie Band Camp. I've had absolutely no problems until I upgraded AnyDVD.

FYI, I almost never have any probs with having zone alarm and my Avast ant virus running. I even paky games and surf the web while reading with shrink and burning with Decypter, and I have AnyDVD.
Every now and then I may run into a situation whe the back up wont work. But thats a very rare case.
FYI my system is an AMD 64 4000, with 2 GB RAM, NEC DVD burner, and a NVidia 7800 GT GPU.
This CPU is an upgrade from a AMD 64 3000 Barton...no problems with that setup either :)

@LOCOENG
I didn't mean to appear on the defensive, though I will admit that I was becomming frustrated at what appeared that not everyone read every post (thus the progress of discussion) within the thread.
I also thought or had hoped that I made it clear that I was asking what the "beating a dead horse" comment(s) were all about.
Suffice to say, I believe many felt that I was just another strictly ignorant individual showing up and asking questions. It's certainly not a rarity amongst internet forums.
I still say the issues lied within AnyDVD, in fact the last support answer to my three questions -- which I didn't receive until 36 hours after I asked them (a paying customer mind you) what my issues could be -- they recommended use of CloneDVD. That was their answer.
Not exactly the best answer when the customer already believes there may be a chance that problems might have been caused to increase sales of CloneDVD. <shrug> Though, I have been known to be slightly paranoid (or simply, non-ignorant to sales practices and frankly the very existance of monopolizations).
Though, with all that said. I did and do appreciate the assistance I did receive from those that made replies with inquisitive and thoughtful content. (ie. didn't treat me as just another ignorant poster)

AnyDVD 5.7.3.1 has been released, which might fix the issue.

It does not fix the issue. 40 year old virgin STILL comes up with the same error message right from the start.
Since I always seem to ask questions I will just put this into here to help everyone that helps me out....

Submit the error report that you got from 40 year old virgin to slysoft and then they can address it properly.
Cheers.

It's the same exact one the thread starter who sent numerous ones to them got. I was just stating that thier "updated" 5.7.?.1 series is STILL faulty since someone suggested trying the "newest" version 5.7.3.1

No problem, I thought that there may be a slight variation of your error as compared to hexluthers. One never knows. The more informatin that slysoft gets, the quicker and better the fix.
Cheers.

The reason I was pursuing the multi-tasking "dead horse" was only to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the problem. There have been times trying to help people & information is difficult to decipher. So I like to be very clear in my questions.
I never treat anyone as an ignorant poster.

Figured this log might help in troubleshooting this problem. As I have backed up about 150 +/- DVD's and AnyDVD has never had the highlighted part of this log:
Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 5.7.3.1)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1
Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Video DVD (or CD) label: 40_YEAR_OLD_VIRGIN
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!
RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
----------> FOUND & REMOVED INVALID VOBUs! <--------------
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!
As soon as I try to open the disc in Shrink it brings me this error:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid DVD navigation structure
Since I always seem to ask questions I will just put this into here to help everyone that helps me out....

You should disable AnyDVD, copy the .ifo files from the disc to harddisk, zip them and send the zip file to support(at)slysoft.com
I am sure they will figure it out quickly.

I am have the same problems as you slosten and you hexluther. I believe you, but what will be done about it.
I just downloaded AnyDVD 5.7.3.1 on my dad's computer and that is the one that I am getting the error. I was not about the back up 40-Year-Old Virgin. So I went home and looked to see what version of AnyDVD I had and it is 5.5.5.1. I guess it is good that I don't check my mail often because I got the update e-mail before I went But I didn't know it. Well anyways, I tryed to back up 40-Year-Old Virgin at my home and it worked fine.
Does any one have any older versions of AnyDVD. I didn't save I just ran as. That was me being stupid.
I hope someone can help.
Thanks

well i've just joined this thread (the thread title caught me eye). I've skimmed thru, and after reading past all the irrelevant fluff (ie the "i'm not an ignorant poster" comments), it would seem to me that AnyDVD isn't the problem here. There's certainly a lot of ppl who use it quite happily and Slysoft seem to never sleep as they're knocking out updates like it's going out of fashion. ie it certainly doesn't appear there's a lot wrong with the awesome little program.
However i'll add here that whilst i have no beef with AnyDVD or aversion against it (in fact i tried to purchase it but i don't have a Visa card but i digress) i don't actually possess AnyDVD myself, and whilst there are a very few movies i've had problems with ie that DVD Shrink alone couldn't cope with, the 40yr old virgin (in UK anyway) has no funny protections as far as i remember, DVD Shrink on it's lonesome stormed thru that movie for me.

just reading thru rest of the thread properly. Got as far as Pirates of the Caribbean. my eyebrows just went up again...
for The Forgotten, DVD Decrypter did this one, it's been a while now so don't quote me but i vaguely recall that was around the time of Decrypter needing PSL files for this movie.
However Pirates of the Carribean was a breeze for just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome - ie no AnyDVD needed for that one...
As to the internet/antivirus being in use i'll add my observations....
i never disconnect my router during encoding/burning so 'the internet' is always on as is my Antivirus software. I am however strongly against multitasking during the burn process, ie i multitask heavily if need be, but only during ripping/encoding or whatever, just never during the burn. After a few 1000 movies i can catergorically say that multitasking whilst using the awesome DVD Shrink is 100% fine. Once i mistakenly kicked off a torrent download during a Nero burn and the buffers went ballistic as did CPU usage and the burn was wrecked. Needless to say i don't 'use' the internet or touch PC during burning anymore but as to ripping/encoding, no problems multitasking there..
I certainly don't mean to turn the thread into a debate, just thought i should mention that the first part of the thread was definitely very much written 'on the defensive' when it needn't have been :)
