@pulsar
I wasnt popping at you or anyone in particular, I was just making a general statement as I didn't think the multitasking was part of the problem. There is a bug in Hex's download or something else running on his machine that is creating a conflict...who knows. I didn't mean to come off that way.

Could this be the answer???
Quote: This was posted by James at Slysoft Support
I had this idea myself a while ago, but we will not do this unless it is absolutely necessary. The goal is, that AnyDVD runs perfectly with everything with default settings. AnyDVD is designed to be "installed and forgotten" (but must be regulary updated, hence the automatic update check).
It is designed to be always enabled and it should always run as soon as your computer starts.
I have made a beta version which should work fine with DVDShrink and Recode, while keeping the added value for elby CloneDVD2:
http://sandbox.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD5811.exe
Warning, this is beta software. I haven't tested it much (we will do this the next days), but I believe it will not do any harm. Everybody is invited to try it out (not only Shrink & Recode users).
Here is the changelog:
5.8.1.1, 2006 01 07
- New: Improved the function to remove unreferenced VOBUs. This fixes
problems (Error message "invalid navigation structure") with DVDShrink
and Nero Recode with some titles.
- Fix: Alpha DVD copyprotection detection. Some titles (e.g., "The Fifth
Element - Remastered Deluxe Edition" R2, German) were incorrectly
identified as protected with the "Settec AlphaDVD" copy protection.
- Updated languages

creaky....I'm with you. I've never owned AnyDVD and haven't needed it. I've become a big fan of DVDfab and Shrink. Thats how I got 40-Year-Old Virgin HexLuther. I made the mistake of buy DVDXCopy a couple years ago. (boy do I regret that!) Thanks to Afterdawn and some talented programers I've been able to find some great free programs to do my backups.

my mother is running 5.6.3.1 version of AnyDVD and backed up the 40 year old virgin no prob . i just recently went to her house and updated her AnyDVD so i hope it doesnt screw her all up . if it does she will be calling. i have never heard of anyone having problems with AnyDVD i sure hope this is not the begining of another class act being pressured by the almighty. anyway i think its a great app . i emailed slysoft and made sure they would let me load it on the 4 systems i have they got back with me a day later and said no problem . ever since i have become a commision free sales person for them as i would like to see this group become richer than the gods that create all this crap to deprive us of our fair rights to do what we want with the media we own !!!! everyone should be selling it your neighbors , freinds , family heck even your pastor or priest . whatever it takes . it is our fault if this company failes so get involved and push this product so that they will be there for us when we need them. also to creaky the moderator go to a local shop and purchase a greendot visa card . the initiale cost is about twenty bucks but as you refill it with your money the charge is reduced to about 5.00 per refill and sometimes cheaper . this way will allow you to make your online purchases. also most online stores will allow you to use your checking account # 's to purchase online to . i am not sure if slysoft does this though . im sure you were well aware of this though and like most people you diagree with the heavy price tag.

@tbiggs -
cheers for the info re the visa thing, someone else told something similar ; though i'm in UK so don't yet know if there's a similar thing here. i don't have a beef with the price of AnyDVD, it's just i'm getting by with DVDFab Decrypter until i get around to buying AnyDVD.

I wonder if the almighty is still pissed off about the fact that DVD Decryper and AnyDVD could get past Ripguard the day it came out? <G>

Me too!!
I imagine the good folks at Slysoft, all six of them sitting by the beach near their grass hut. They are sipping their drinks with the little umbrellas, discussing how to undermine Sony and Macrovision.
I want to go there and help!

Version 5.8.1.1 of AnyDVD seems to now play well with Shrink and NeroRecode 2. Both of these programs willingly ripped a movie to hard drive with AnyDVD running in the background for me.

Yes, you are right.I make correction, I use DVDD just to burn! Haven't found a reason to buy something like Nero yet,when all I need for basic DVD copying is available for free!

I own and use AnyDVD in the background all the time. No problem until I got the navigation error. I was useing Nero/ANYDVD. I then tried Shrink/AnyDvd and got same navigation error.
I then went to Instant Copy by Pinnacle / AnyDVD and the movie (Broken Flowers) backed up fine without error.
The navigation problem was only with Shrink and Nero and then almost immediately AnyDVD updated and fixed the problem with update 5.8.1.1
