Does anyone know if all the Sony 16X MIJ code out as Sony made?
so far that seems to be the case...Taiyo Yuden hasn't even officially announced the YUDEN000T03s (16x dvd+r) in the United States yet and even online retailers do not have them here in the US for sale at this point...

could it be possible that once the YUDEN000T03s are readily available here in the U.S. that Sony will use them? YES VERY POSSIBLE~ :) but, in the meantime, to make it PERFECTLY CLEAR for you and others that are curious, the SONYxxx media ID coding on their media in any rated speed or format are NOT MADE BY TAIYO YUDEN...only the ones that are MIJ and adhere to this basic guideline found in MY Taiyo Yuden thread ARE...

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/296925

make no mistake, the MIJ 8x rated Sony's HAVE BEEN coding out lately as being manufactured by Taiyo Yuden (TYG02 & YUDEN000T02), but the ones with the SONY coding ARE NOT TYs~ :)

@dvdfreak1

ok...then SOMETHING is def. wrong here...

lemme ask you this, on your 8x TYG02s (which if i am reading you right, are the Sony DVD+R you have) what is the inner hub reading on them??? put it this way, if it's TG000xxx then you DEFINITELY have the YUDEN000T02s, if it's GG000xxx then you have the TYG02s) :)

dunno if you got the DVD+R format in a DVD-R spindle and vice versa...or they got the MEDIA ID coding reversed from the factory...cuz what you stated is NOT possible without an error in either MID coding or packaging content...

The Sony 8X +R's I got from BB today ID as YUDEN000 T02 and the inner hub reads TG001162...just to help clear things up...or maybe to confuse things more. Not sure! DVDfreak must be mistaken?

@sacflies

exactly, i KNOW my Taiyo Yuden coding like the back of my hand, yours and like 99% of others that have come to me with TY questions checks out properly...

the situation of dvdfreak1 is very peculiar...it's either one of 2 things...

1. from the factory, they mislabelled the media..meaning, put a DVD+R stamp on DVD-R media by mistake

or

2. they messed up the MID coding on that particular "batch" of discs, meaning, they used a DVD-R MID coding on DVD+R media~

or a combination of the two to deduce the possibility of getting all sorts of weird combinations~ :)

OR...lastly, dvdfreak1 got the wrapper/label interchanged when scanning and thus posted up his results based on his findings...

but, ONE thing i know for certain, as i stated in my 1st post to him...

TYG02 = 8x DVD-R Taiyo Yuden media ID coding

YUDEN000T02 = 8x DVD+R Taiyo Yuden media ID coding

there are NO OTHER CORRECT/GENUINE coding for each of those 8x rated in either format for Taiyo Yuden... UNLESS there is an obvious and apparent "mix-up" during the manufacturing process where they put the wrong label on the media before packaging...or they simply reversed the MID coding on that particular batch...

it's not really that confusing, there are certain RULES that TYs go by and to have a "weird case," like this one, could just be a freak-of-nature accident from the factory, or user error :) (not saying that dvdfreak1's findings are inaccurate, but that would be the simplest explanation to all of this if he did in fact just get the 2 confused) :P

Here's another Verbatim deal involving rebates I found at Ben's Bargains:

http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-16x-dvd-r-media-branded.html

It supposedly comes to $16 afer rebates and estimated shipping for a 100-disk spindle of 16X. I haven't ever dealt with Meritline myself.

I went to Sams & bought a 100-pk of Verbatims 16X inkjet printable discs because I had seen it said in the forum that Sams had good Verbs. These are crap. About every 3rd one is a coaster. They code out to be MCC 03RG20. Did I misunderstand about Verbatims & Sams? These were the only printables they had & they are MIT. Does that mean that the Verbatims printables are not any good?

mikilea, I suspect something other than the disks is causing the problem. Why don't you make a new thread in the appropriate forum and post the brand and firmware version of your burner, the software you used, and the speed at which you burned, as well as the basic specs for your computer system. Somebody will be able to help figure out the problem. It could be the media but it's likely something else like old firmware, etc.

Yes, that is a good deal. Especially if you can find the Made In Japan spindles. Also Best buy has the 50pk's for $14.99. Same price, but you could buy in 50pks instead of 100 pks.

Just like bunnyrip mentioned, I took a Best Buy add to staples and got 100 sony MIJ for 26.92 after taxes. Basically just take any ad to another store that price matches and get the dvd's even cheaper. If you want the Verbatim that are on sale take that ad to staples or best buy or wherever. They all price match. Those poor souls who buy 50 packs of memorex for $40. Poor poor things.

I got 550 and the first spindle I opened was the same TG001162 batch number.

Toyotaman:

I play my backups in a slew of pc drives/stand alones and ps2 consoles and those ps2 consoles are the toughest to get them to play them ok. Since your are using Yuden000-T02,then will eliminate the question of media quality. Here's my formula to get the best playback results:

1)4x/8x burn speed-Burn to the speed that produces fewest errors.All backups will have little errors,you want to keep them to a minimum.
2)No multi-tasking
3)Keep hard drive/s defragged
4)No paper/sticker labels
5)Keep that burn from reaching the outer edge.Keep a target of 4360 mbs.
6)Good quality, booktyping drive with updated firmware.
7)Clean the laser lens of the drive that shows those issues-usually stand alone players
8)Keep compression to a minimum. Less compression=better playback.
9) Save the wear and tear on your ps2,get you a $20-$30 el-cheapo player. They'll usually play everything.
10) Of course I can't leave out how critical quality media is to start with. Some of those players will pick out the defects of crappy media in a heartbeat.

Some stores are picky when the ad says rebate of any kind when it comes to price matching. Even the instant rebate. Probably just luck of the draw as to the cashier.

I'm not sure if Circuit City does the same but mine doesn't have any of the Sony/Tys anyway. I think by the end of this week most of the Sony/Tys will be gone. At least in my area. Most of the Sony stuff I've seen lately has been the 16x variety. I think my Best Buy had 3 or 4 spindles of the 8x left. I may get lucky when I can swing by there but I doubt it. I can't complain I have a pretty good stash right now. HOPEFULLY not too much. My luck and the D/L Verbs will get really cheap and I'll want to go that route. I just hope it takes a while before the HD Format takes off. It's hard to believe a new release may include a widescreen a fullscreen and at least one HD fromat. What a retail mess.

I took the Best Buy ad to Circuit City and they beat the price by 10% of the difference. This brought the price down to $12.50 a 50 pack.
I also went to Staples and got a pack of the Playo +R's for $1.94 since I brought in a used ink cart. The Playo code as AML 002. I plan on using them for non important stuff.

Later........

Shovels Rule!
