ok i tryed to softmod this way
sadly it faled so i chose to use Krayzie Ndure Installer
with Evolution-X (EvoX)
i did unstall this softmod before i did
i now have a new successfull xbox softmod
it works great in 2 hours i learnt how to FTP
so i now have mame and sega genuis on it
4 roms altogher
and 4 skins installed for it
i like to play dvds but i dont know how?
will it also play back ups
becuase i have back up tomb raider i try to boot it
it gets to loading screen but no more
aldo a tomb raider save file did appear so i belive my copy is a bad copy
how can i play dvds i heard i got to download it or something?

look up either DVD2xbox or Xbox Media Center, either will play DVDs. u can find these on mIRC at #xbins

good job on having it worked out , lets just hoped you backed up the correct files so in case your softmod goes bad ( or you mess with it ) or you decide to uninstall it with ease .... thats why sid 4.0 did not complete cuz it has to be done 100%
as for your issue on not playing back games ....
you need to burn your games with the latest dvd2xbox version ( so it can patch such files .xbe s and run game sucsefully.)
xbmc can play dvds true but i'd suggest dvdx2 dangle free dvd player...
WELL next step is to download AID 3 off xbox hq .com why? cuz it has MOST IF NOT ALL of your tools needed to run games ( dvd2xbox) play dvds ( dvdx2 dangle free , xbmc , and emus ....
get aid 3 ... ask for help if needed from hq .com peace

yep im fine i belive its all backed up i even copyed the back up to pc
let me say
soft mod rules
i done FTP
i played a dvd
i played my back up (100% fine)
i played sega
i played mame
i played n64
loving the mod its great

let aid 3 do the work for you , just burn disc n voila !
but stuff usualy goes on E ... if you have bigger hd f n g is fine

mmm try re downloading extract it only once
so you get the files
SID4.NK.Launcher
SID4.NK.Loader.007AUF
SID4.NK.Loader.Mechassault
SID4.NK.Loader.SplinterCell.NTSC
SID4.NK.Loader.SplinterCell.PAL
Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v4.Nknave.Manual
they should all be ziped apart from the last one
(Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v4.Nknave.Manual)
ok now drag and drop on to the action reply making sure your memory card is in
drag and drog on the memory card (the box on the left)
the files you need to drag and drop are
SID4.NK.Launcher
and the game which you useing check for PAL or NTSC if you have SplinterCell
that should do it

its all in this ziped folder

unzip it then it will create all these files
but the files it create dont extract them justr this folder only
it is easy really
if you can get it working you can try
Krayzie Ndure Installer
my self the sid installer dint work for me
so i use the sid to back up ms
then use the other installer to install and saved the back up to pc

The RAR comes with the manual AND the the softmod files..
Oki, I'm needing more help, I was about to softmod a friend's XBOX, but I got a batch process failed REASON : FOUND EXISTING SOFTMOD.
I checked, there is no softmod, apart from the one thing, on the MS Dashboard the XBOX Live Menu is missing, this made me think that it was a LINUX softmod, but it's single boot there is no RETAIL mode. He's not interested in XBOX live, but really would like it softmodded. I would use the "uninstall softmod" option, but I think this might leave me with
error 21. Any help greatly appreciated.

Mik3h : is the xbox currently softmoded or not ? , just run linux and FTP a fresh ms dash ( CKECH MY SIGNITURE ) extracted of course to C and overwrite everyitng in there , from there it should boot to retail xbox and voila mod it .
oh and if you get error 21 , just pop disc again and run linux and you can fix that error , easiest error to fix ,
pnksktr6 : man i dont know if your really trying or your just scared in trying this , but its taking everyone longer to explain then it is to do it , download taht big sid 4 file on this thread , then extract it once , it hsould end up in to diffrent sid files like swordsg said , from there drag sid 4. linux laucher and then the choice of game your using TO MEM CARD SECTION .... one you have both transfer to xbox run disc load linux voila..
if 2 files dont fit put 1 then erase it from mem card and put 2nd ,

Well when I boot, it brings me to msdash, but "Xbox Live" does not show, I read that this is what the linux mod does, removes it from the menu. And thats all I can do really, play retail, but only it's not retail. Green light, It's a mod I think, only a very old mod.. I can boot the splinter cell and SID menu, only batch process fails of creating MS backup reason : found existing softmod. I can't FTP to it or anything either.

ok so its modded with an old 455 mod , simple run sid 4 linux ( its temporarly open a port for FTP ) then FTP ms dash to C to overwrite every8itnng
check under my signiture .
this will fix any error good luck easy fix

red light of death is fine now , does it ask someting about pressing A? if so then do it , after that it should run ux or evox ( get ux)
if it loads ms dash set time power off power on
but yea you gotta press A so it patches it
