yes you are correct eternalis, it does require kernal acess to emulaate firmwares. xloader does not really emulate firmware, but it makes it look like version 1.5 and lets you play games. It does not REALLY emulate 1.5 but it practically does the same thing. Sorry, i will try to be more specific.

Do you have to rip every ISO you play? cuz i torrented one and it came with UMD_DATA.bin and PSP_GAME folder. In that case do i still need to rip or just plop those 2 folders into ISO?

Sorry there is no way to play ISOs on firmware 2.8 yet.
So you'll just have to wait until they find a new exploit (if they do).

Yeah you can't downgrade...but dont worry!
You can now play homebrew and ISOs on firmware 2.71. First upgrade to 2.71. Download the update for your region from here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/47
Now put the EBOOT.PBP of the update into ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE. Then go to GAME-->Memory Stick and select the update. Note: You'll need to have a full battery and an AC adapter plugged in to upgrade.
Then follow this tutorial to run ISOs and homebrew on your PSP:

Yeah you can browse the internet.
On firmware 2.71 you can use HEND and DevHook in order to play the latest retail games.

Okay I have a question about setting up Xlink Kai, I have a Gigabyte wireless router (i'll give the model if you want) which my psp is connected to, my computer and the Gigabyte wireless router are both connected to a hub. The hub is connected to another router which is then connected to the modem.
Anyway have a solution for this? I'm really confused and obviously Xlink's setup guide does not have a solution. On the website, i think i have to go through with a combination of Setup C and Setup E.
Any advice?
Also, Can we play online games like medal of honor online with ISO's?
Thanks,

I have a PSP that I downgraded from 2.6 to 1.5, after the downgrade i put Xflash on there and changed some stuff but removed Xflash from the stick later on ( i guess deleting the backup file of the original unmodded one ) anyways, now i cant upgrade because of the modifications done by Xflash and i was wondering if there is a way to undo the changed made by Xflash so i can upgrade my PSP.

First off wanted to thank all of you for a lot of great posts and guides. I'm really new to the PSP and you've been a great help. I've done a lot reading in the last couple days and hope someone can help with a quick question...
Got my first PSP last week, TA-082 running 2.50. I was able to upgrade it to 2.71 and load devhook 0.46 and 0.51 to play all the ISO's I've found (using the guides and tutorials I found here). Today I found the value pack on sale today for $30 cheaper than the standalone I bought so I returned it and grabbed a new one. It's running 2.01 and obviously not a TA-082. What I'm wondering is if I should downgrade to 1.50 (I think this is possible??) or upgrade this one to 2.71 as well? Pretty much all i plan on using it for is playing ISO's and watching MP4 movies.
Basically... what are the pros and cond to running 1.50 over 2.71 with HEND?
Thanks again for all the help - hope this was the right place to ask this.

Dont worry. You can revert to the stock setting by using Xflash. Just download Xflash from this link: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/896
Then to reverse the changes you can do the following:
-to bring back the stock font run Xflash and scroll down to the INSTALL CUSTOM FONT option and press O
-to bring back the stock gameboot scroll down to the CHANGE GAMEBOOT INTRO MOVIE option and press O
Basically for anything, just scroll to the option that you used to modify and you will be able to restore (just read the instructions that pop-up on the bottom of the screen as you highlight each option).
