it is probably a dumb question but i have installed device hook 0.51 firmware 3.01 i would like to know what option should i choose in the device hook menu ,boot mode ,i am choosing umd autorun that after the psp reboots its starts the game , but i have seen that other people choose xmb mode i tried and when the psp reboots it goes to the psp menu and to start the game i have to go to the umd icon to run the game is this the only difference or is there somenthing more?
which way is better?
sorry for the long question and thanks in advance for your attention.

Theres no difference. The XMB Menu option is if you just want to go to the 3.02 XMB straight away and you don't want to run an ISO.
@file13- Why do you want to upgrade anyway? Firmware 1.5 can do everything firmware 3.02 or any other firmware can do plus more.

perhaps instead of not being able to get rid of the updates xflash did, can i update just to update, or install 2.0 then downgrade back to 1.5.

I am completely new to all this and I'm getting really confused so I would appreciate the help. I have firmware 2.01 and I use the GTA exploit. I want to play ISOs which have relatively high f.w (like Madden 07 or MGS:PO) requirements so I'm planning to downgrade. But once I do, what do I do from there? I'm confused about HENC and devhook and all those other things. Also, is there a method that will allow me to play homebrew and the aforementioned ISOs? Please help.

It's been awhile since I messed with any homebrew or firmware. My psp was stolen at real firmware 1.5 being upgraded to 2.0 :) so its been awhile.
I just picked up two PSP's, one ta-082 at 2.6 and another at 1.5. I have a few questions I would like to get answered in a quick post, please.
#1.
I just want to clarify, the ta-082 needs to be upgraded to Sony's 2.71 and HEND applied to it. With HEND and its devhook, this ta-82 can emulate firmware 2.5-(whatever the newest devhook can emulate). One should NOT emulate lower than 2.5 for fear of voltage incompatabilities and bricking the PSP.
#2.
Once the 2.XX HEND firmware is running, .iso's stored in /iso should be runnable right from the memorycard, or do you need to run an iso loader?
#3.
I upgraded the 1.5 to 2.71SEC and the package I installed also included devhook .46, should this psp be able to play ISO's in the /sio directory right from the start? Devhook is for only making the system emulate diffrent firmware, so at this point, any .iso in the /iso dir should be able to be choosen right from the memory stick right?
I guess I need to read up on how to use devhook and the 2.71 firmwares ability to execute .iso's. I have various iso files, and on both systems have put them where they should go, however attempting to run them directly from the memory stick gives me errors of the "cant start game" (or something like that)
Running the DEVC and changing the UMD to point to the correct .iso and then starting the dvc flashes the screen, goes black, and then turns off the psp after 5-8 seconds.
Any suggestions, Im going to go back through the posts, maybe I should issolate the two PSP's as I am told what can be done on the non ta-082 can brick the ta-082.
I think in the old days, I just used to use a UMD Emulator and play ISO's with no issues, but the new devc menthod that I have to use for the ta-082 has caused some confusion.
Thanks

Hey all,
I followed Kav's "how to play ISO on TA-082 with HEND&DevHook" guide and most of my ISO works fine.
However, there are some games that I am having problem with, they are: Capcom Classic Collection: Remixed and Capcom Classic Collection: Reloaded, and Sega Genesis Collection. The problem is kinda weird, because it is not consistent, sometimes I was able to load the game fine, but after I quit the game, and re-run the same game again, it would stuck at the loading screen, then I have to reboot my psp. I've downloaded other ISO and the problem still exists.
I'm wondering if there is a special setting in devhook, eg: memory address? that would fix this problem. I read somewhere that there is this guy Necro something that also posted about similar problem. Has anyone here that had experience this problem with these 3 ISOs?

X-Flash is the best way to go. Get your custom files from here - http://www.nextpsphacks.com You will also need X-Flash V17 as it is supported by 2.71 SE-C. You can use other programs like Flashmod and uFlash but X-Flash is the best.

1. First upgrade to firmware 2.71. Download the update from here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/47
2. Now use this guide to play those ISOs on firmware 2.71:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399310
BTW HEN (which stands for Homebrew Enabler) is a tool made by Dark_Alex to allow you to use homebrew/ISOs on firmware 2.71

#1- No, you can emulate any firmware. You just cant downgrade to any firmware below 2.5. The new DevHook can emulate up to firmware 3.02
#2- You have to run an ISO Loader (DevHook), follow this guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399310
#3- The latest ISOs wont work with DevHook 0.46, use DevHook 0.51 instead. Use my guide to get it setup:

lol No thats not it. I was banned by mistake and I created a new account (et3rnalis) and used it until this one was unbanned.

i already posted this question else where.. but why not =)
I have a problem with Need for Speed: Carbon Iso. Its not that i cant get it to run, i'm running the game smoothly using 2.71 SE-B'' BUT the problem is after playing through 6% of the game, i have to race on this track/map. BUT whenever i reach this point in the track/map, the game & psp will freeze and turn off. I tried other tracks/maps too and on a couple, this exact same thing happens. I tried redownloading the game, retired it with CSo too.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Does that happen everytime you start your PSP?
Press O and then reset your settings. Then it wont come up again. Then use Xflash to restore the original font.

Then unless you have custom firmware the only way to restore your PSP is to install a modchip.
