I forgot to mention when I grabbed my WiiKEY chip & Opening TOOL from http://www.americanxboxmodchips.com/wiikey.htm
I used this $10 Off Coupon my friend emailed me. The Coupon Code is: 10off and it appears anyone can use this... I got my WiiKEY and TRI-WING Tool for $37.84 + $12 Shipping...
Ive looked around, this seems to be the best deal. I initially had issues with this coupon code, but after speaking with my friend I found out my total had to be $40 before shipping to use this.
I am getting ready to buy my second WiiKEY for a friend, and I am curious does anyone else know maybe a cheaper place to get these chips?

OK I'm reading these posts in these topics and a lot of you havn't been doing your research. But whatever... I'll post exactly what the WiiKey does:
* Direct boot of wii backups = Just insert the backup and play!
* Direct boot of GC backups = Just insert the backup and play!
* Direct boot of homebrew in GC mode = Can play Gamecube Homebrew.
* Supports all currently available console/drive versions = Works on all consoles, no matter where you are or when you bought it.
* Supports D2B chipsets = Meh...? Don't know, but it's a positive.
* Sophisticated (true) update mechanism via DVD (future proof, expect cool features to come) = Upgradeable.
* Direct boot of different NTSC region Wii games/backups on US and JAP consoles = Play ANY game from Japan or US on Japan and US consoles. (AKA Region free in Japan and US)
* Partial support for NTSC region Wii games/backups on PAL consoles = Play some games from Japan or US on Europe consoles. (AKA Partially region free in Europe)
* Boots different region GC games/backups (partially without swapping) = Plays any region Gamecube games, backup or original, usually without the need of using a swap method.
* Supports multi-disc games for BOTH Wii and Gamecube = Can play games that have more than one disk.
* Supports DVD-R / true DVD+R and +RW support (no bitsetting required!) = You can burn your backups on ANY DVD media without the WiiKey blowing up.
* Improved readsettings for recordable media = Runs disks in 6x. No more DISK READ ERRORS! (BIG +++ over the Cyclowiz and Wiinja, which fail to achieve the required 6x) Runs game at full speed, you wont notice the diffrence between origials and backups.
* Built-in audio fix = Corrects audio for certain backups.
* Supports fullsize 4GB discs for gamecube homebrew = You don't need those miniDVDs to put Gamecube games on.
* Stealth mode = Can't be detected by the Wii.
* 512 byte EEPROM to store configuration = Space where it stores your configuration (where the updates go ^_^)
* Quicksolder interface - no wires required = Wires may still be used, and are more recommended than the Quicksolder because 1) If anything goes wrong, you can take it out very quickly and 2) The quicksolder interface doesn't match up with the points too well.
* Unique disc backup application via sdcard = You can back up your games (Wii or Gamecube) onto an SD card! This still needs to be released, but it's almost complete.
* Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller = Small, strong, long-lasting, and fast.
* Professional ESD packing = When shipped to you, it comes in a little bag known as ESD packing. Not very important...
* Recovery mode - Can recover from a bad flash = If something goes terribly wrong during and update or while the WiiKey is running, it can recover back to how it was before the crash.
Also, everyone here is wondering if it's better or not... here's the link to PSX scene's review! WiiNewz Review! <<- READ THIS! It will let you know to get this instead of anything else...
ALSO: BEWARE OF CLONES! WiiKey clones are very common due to the immense success of the WiiKey. Here's a list of the official WiiKey sellers. If the site you purchased from is NOT on this list, your WiiKey is probably a clone.

V 1.2 setup disk has not been released. In fact, the only change in 1.1 is the "no GC pad required" feature I think. And that's just the version of the setup disk. I think the firmware of the WiiKey is unchanged right now, but there IS an update coming up with the SD backup feature.
All updates can be gotten from the Official WiiKey Homepage. Just click the resources tab, then burn the ISO you extract from the zip onto a DVD.
Wii ownz all.

I am a bit new to all this but I was wondering, when online play becomes available will having a modchip make it impossible to play online?
and it seems to me that the wiikey is the best chip to get?

the chips are advertised as "stealth" which should make them undetectable so it should not affect online play. I am runnin a wiikey and have had no issues

correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought most online services where able to tell if you are playing a legit game and not a backup....I don't think they will be able to detect the chip but still feel they only allow "original" games to work online

Anyone know if the Wiikey from "www.digitalfusions.net" is genuine..it looks like one of the clones.
Also, is the one sold by "www.americanxboxmodchips.com" genuine...the only person referring to this site is "jimmy42" in virtually all his posts.
Thanx for any info.......just trying to buy an original Wiikey.
