One other thing, does anyone know if the pine DVD+/-R media they are selling at future shop works at 4x with the a302 firmware?

Get Nero info tool, tells lot's of things.

The 302 firmware also fixes the dismal DAE scores, now scores a 10 in Nero (the audio burns are still pathetic though).

what's the problem with audio burns?

Also, has anyone tried with any 9.4GB media? As soon as I find a good place to buy some I'll give it a try but 9.4GB DVD-Rs seem to be scarce here in Canada

No problem burning Princo's at 4x.
Burned 2 Swisstec at 2.4x max speed (Skymedia Manufacturing) but in the end they're not readable, like they're empty. Nero's Disc Info recognised something was burnt (458 mb available on disc) and Nero CD-DVD Speed recognises it's a DVD+R disc but hasn't Start button enabled.

I know that this Swisstec media works fine on Nec DVD Burner. Someone with problems with this media brand also?

Hey ya!

Try Nero's CD quality test on an audio disc you've burned, it fails miserably. My old Plex scores 100.

I burnt one track onto a CD-RW and tested it, 0 errors - were your tests with r or rw cd media?

Burn a complete audio CD, not one track. Use the CD Quality test, the one that shows C2 errors and has a 'Quality Score'. The LG will show thousands of errors with a score of maybe 60.0, but usually 0.0. The same CD burned in my old Plextor always scores 100 with no C2 errors.

I can confirm white label Princo 4x burning at 4x.
Black and white labelled e3 works 1-4x seems to burn at 2x still. Infosmart 4x seems to burn at 2x still. Memorex 4x and Maxell 4x is confirmed at 4x burning now (i have yet to test) This is all done with A302 firmware.

I was curious if anyone has tested "Pine 10-Pack 4X DVD-R With Jewel Case ?"

These are currently on sale at Futureshop for a low price of $14.99 a box.

Please let me know if anyone has these burning at 4x and any other media confirmed at 4x, thanks.

Any word on wether or not this 302 update allows use of Optoplex media? I some optoplex discs (OEM, silver top)... it would burn, but after nothing could read it, not even the writer... it would be VERY slow, and if you were lucky on a full disc you could copy maybe 500MB worth of data from it.

It works fine with the reccomended media, but I would prefer something a bit cheaper :)

I tried burning an audio CD and it seems that all the errors occur when writing the outer half of the CD as the burn speed increases. Up to 50% there were no C2 errors, but on the last 50% of the test there were ~30,000 - I did burn it using iTunes which doesn't seem to support the set burning speed properly, since I told it 4x but it only took 3 mins to burn the CD. I'll try again in Nero 6 ultra which I know will burn a cd-r at 4x

the audio CD burned in Nero at 4x (full 80 mins) only had one spike of ~5000 C2 errors at one point, and all the rest of the CD was good. I put in a couple older audio CDs that I burnt with my old burner (a yamaha) and they had many more C2 errors than that, so I'm not thinking the audio quality is bad at all. I'll try both CDS i made today in my car CD player which is kind of finiky, so that will be the best test of all.

Hey, why you Canadian folks stuck with Pine or some other brands while Princo proved to be quite friendly to 4040B? Princo 4X is even cheaper. If you look at eBay, 100-spindle costs only C$126+tax and s&h. I tried mitshumi and returned it to Future Shop.

The Princo IS awesome but it's not easy to find in CAN my friend. I have some new updates for you all...

I have successfully burned on Maxell 4x DVD-R and DVD+R, both at 4x, no errors, beautiful playback and man, these are nice looking dvd-r tops, hehe.

Peace.

I bought the eworks 10pack at futureshop. They burn at 2x with 302 firmware. Maxell dvdram burns at 3x, the one that came with the burner with Nero. Someone needs to put a master list together with 4x compatable medai

just a note on the audio quality - the 2 audio CDs I burnt (one at 4x in Nero, one at some high speed in iTunes) both play perfectly in my finnicky car CD player. So I wouldn't worry about audio quality, despite some C2 errors in Nero's test (very few with the 4x burn) - even the high speed burn plays perfectly.

I heard that 3works from futureshop works at 4x from the spindle but not the 10 pack. Has anyone also tried this? I might make a new thread to clarify successful media then post a web page

Something doesn't seem right. The RitekG03's work great for me (about all I use with absolutely no problems) and the Nero Speed test shows a great burn from start to end.

Hey Assphalt

You used E3Works and burned dvd movies? What speed and was it a 10 pack or a spindle? How many movies did you try and did you actually watch them on a standalone dvd player and made sure they didn't skip.

I use virtual dub to remove audio, tmpge to re-edit in mpeg. then i use ulead dvd movie factory to make a dvd imae and Nero to burn or just ulead dvd movie factory to do both the image and burn!
