I was digging around and found this on Wiki for anyone interested:
A DVD drive capable of reading Wii and GC discs
Only specific drives are capable of reading Wii and GC discs, obviously in addition to the drive you will also need it installed in a PC with proper drives. At present the only drives known to be capable of reading Wii and GC discs are the following:
* Hitachi LG GDR-8161b (IDE)
* Hitachi LG GDR-8162b (IDE)
* Hitachi LG GDR-8163b (IDE)
* Hitachi LG GDR-8164b (IDE)
* Hitachi LG GDR-H10NBLK (SATA)
* Hitachi LG GDR-8082N - USB SLIM Portable Drive
All Drives can be found at www.megaloot4u.com
I wasn't aware of the last two drives being capable.

Ooops sorry for posting last one w/out a messag. No problem, but I actually did have the correct dvd rom for LG. I just tried to burn it w/ it too. I actually took out my dvd writer instead of cd rom. Everything is ready to go except one more question:
Nero asks me right before the burn to save nero image; it defaults the save onto the rawdump directory.
1. where does this image go?
2. there is an option to change it to an iso; should I?

Rawdump will automagically create the image as an ISO (or sometimes a rar, depending on settings, which you'll have to un-rar to get the iso file out).
If nero is asking you to save a nero image, it still thinks it's recording to the Image Recorder, and not a physical dvd writing drive.

electroty,
or are you dumping with your JBU574U ?
Burning with your other drive, the other being a DVD burner...
Its possible that a JBU574U is an LG drive 'rebranded'
Is it a MATSHITA ?

Use the wii dvd dumper for the homebrew channel... I've copied probably around 23 games already using the wii dvd dumper with no problems.
Instead of wasting money and waiting for shipping etc... on a LG drive.
Just my opinion, no flaming. :D

Well it does two entirely opposite things.
It lets me choose the drive that I am going to burn onto ( I choose a non - LG dvd writer), then when I press okay it pops up the rawdump directory and asks me if it can save it in there.
solutions?

Here it is step-by-step to show what I do and get no where yet:
1) rawdump 2.0 has done its job
2) open nero; say cancel new job; select
ALERT: nevermind..
You have to select the drive before selecting burn option.

Yeah, I'm good. I didn't select the drive before selecting "burn image". It's all running good.
Thanks for all your help guys.

I noticed a few isos that were 7+ gb. One of the new Mario games comes to mind. Are there some dual layered games that just cant be backed up on a single layer disc?

i dont think its the right LG drive .
in raw dump mine is recognised as.
HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8163B0B30
as u can c i have a GDR-8163b
only drives that are known to work are
GDR-8161, (IDE)
GDR-8162, (IDE)
GDR-8163, (IDE)
GDR-8164, (IDE)
Hitachi LG GDR-H10NBLK (SATA)
i have also heard that GDR-8082N will work to. its a laptop drive.
you have a HL-DT-ST DVDROM Gh2oNS10 anthat still looks wrong because it does not have the GDR prefix. so i'd say u need to buy the proper drive.
Wii D2E w/ solderless wiikey2
GDR-8163B hooked up via external usb 2.0 case

Hi all-
I'm New here. Nice thread. I haven't seen this since the new year started. I'm trying to find advice on a mod chip, I'm looking at the D2Ckey chip, because I really don't want to solder! Listed below is what I found on the site. Does any1 have this? I won't be buying my Wii until the beginning of March, so I have time.
Here's what the site says:
FREE UPGRADE! Order the D2CKey mod chip and you'll received the D2Sun Chip with Free WiiClip. The D2Sun works in all current and olf models of the Wii - Fully Universal! FREE WII-CLIP Included. You have absolutely nothing to solder to your Wii Motherboard. The complete no solder solution! The D2CKey is the newest and only mod chip on the market that supports the new Nintendo Wii consoles with the D2C Chipset. Made by the same people behind the very famous WiiKey
Thanks in advance.

i think u will find that if u buy a new wiii now, u'll probably get one with the D2E security chip in it.
so a D2C modchip wont work.
and further more depoending on which country you r in, u'll probably get one with black epoxy resin over the security chip, rendering all wii-clip (solderless solution) usless, unless u chance heating up the epoxy resin and chipping it off hoping like hell u dont lift tracks or f up the board n chip in any number of numerous ways.
your best chance is to research what serial number = what security chip is in the wii. and look around for a wii that u want.
i went around to 5 different shops asking to see the serial number on the wii, before i found 1 that had a low enough serial number so i knew it was a D2E without the epoxy, and i bought a WiiKey v2 with wii clip so it was solderless.

Ok. Thank You.
So what is an example of a low wii serial number? Also you said the D2E key is also non-solder? So a brand new Wii from Wal-mart or somewhere would have a security chip that would detect the mod? So try to go for an older model? Got it. I just did an R4 for my girls for chrismas, but I've been a die hard mario fan since the start and I also want to play the gamecube games on the wii and not have to go broke! The solder thing is tricky for me, I'm computer geek, but I'll admit I'm a girl and have no idea about that stuff.
Thanks again!

Update.
Just been reading. It sounds like the D2Pro will work with newer or new consoles? Thoughts here Please. I just want this to work. I have back problems and Dr. said I can do rehab with the Wii Fit, I also LOVE Nintendo games and so do my 10 and 4 year old. I am also unemployed because of my back and I can't spend 50 plus on games ya know.

If you haven't bought your Wii yet. Go to Craigslist.org and search for modded wii. Usually you can find them there ready to go or you can find a chip installer for around $40.

I am in process of purchasing one of those LG Drive to read the wii games and make ISO dump for copy. I can do all the steps i.e Dumping, copy the game using computer. My question is on modifying the Wii Console. Its under warranty and I don't want to open the console to mod it. Is there any other way I can play copied games without removing a screw of the wii console? Don't mind spending reasonable US $ to have it "Fixed that way". By the way my console is made in USA with SN is LU56xxx.... Purchased in early 2008. Thanks for help.

hey I saw the last post. What are the opinions on Softmod vs. Mod chip? I've been stuck, between them from the beginning. Also if you softmod it I heard it can "brick" the system, what is that? Is there chance of that in a chip? Also 1 last thing. If you softmod, can your restore to factory settings if something goes wrong and start over or reset for factory repair or something.
Thanks again!
