Downloaded PSP games? All downloaded PSP games go in the ISO folder. Make a folder called ISO on the root/map of your memory stick and put your games in there.

I have a psp 2.71. I have been using Devhook 2.71 HENC that I found previously on this board from you. It has worked awesome. I want to upgrade to the 3.11 on the 2.71. I have followed the instructions step by step and when I choose firmware 1.5, it goes black and takes about 2 minutes or so to then show me the screen in green. As soon as I click any button, it goes black again and I cannot do a thing. I am not sure why it will not load 1.5. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also, in part 1 step 6 you say,
Now final step. Download http://dl.qj.net/FW-3.01-update-PSP/pg/12/fid/11396/catid/163
And extract it, and rename it to EBOOT.PBP.
Where does this go? I just put it in the root folder on the PSP.
I am stuck on Part 2: Installing 3.01 for use in Devhook. #6.
Thanks

You have to follow the complete guide. I tried this guide right after i finished re-writing it and it works fine.
The EBOOT.PBP goes in PSP/GAME/UPDATE (Create a folder called UPDATE in PSP/GAME)

PLEASE HELP!!!
After running HEN-D and DEVHOOK0.4X launcher for 2.71 and emulating 1.50:
When I do the 3.01 devhook firmware installer, after 20 seconds, it says:
DONE!
Failed to create report file
Stick may be full or can't create OUT folder
I have a 2gb memory stick with around 1700MB free. After this it just stays at the black screen and the white text. If I press any button, nothing happens.
Before trying this I had HEN-C and I could only emulate up to 2.71.
I even tried reformatting my memory stick but no luck! PLEASE HELP!!!

Is the memory stick an offical Sony one or some junk one off ebay? Because this guide only works on the offical Sony Pro Duo memory stick's. Not the cheap knock off ones.

Well, I just bought my PSP a couple weeks ago and he gave me the the memory card with it.
On the memory stick it says:
SONY (Memory stick logo)
Memory Stick PRO Duo
<2GB MAGIC GATE
When copying files to it, it is very slow. Could be a cheap fake one or a defective one???

MidnightJ,
It still did the SAME exact thing. Here is what I did step by step.
I first followed al the steps without formatting my card while still using 2.71 HEN C version. Didn't work so I did the following.
1. I first went to see my firmware and it says version 2.71
2. I formated my Sony PSP memory 2gig memory card.
3. I followed the exact steps 1-6 and as you said in your post to me, I created an UPDATE folder in my PSP/Game folder and put the EBOOT.PBP in there.
3. I followed part 2 numbers 1-5 and then the PSP goes black screen. It does nothing for about 2 min and then it comes up with an error and says to click the X. I do and it goes black again for about another minute or two. When the screen reappears it doesn't matter what button I touch, it goes black again and again for about a minute or 2. I am never able to continue with 6-12 of part 2.
WHY?
I did try this.
1. turn the psp on and go to photo folder and reboot.
2. I did not go and choose 1.50 in the DEVHOOK0.4X launcher for 2.71.
3. I went to Game/memory stick and saw PSP Update ver 3.01
4. I clicked on this and it goes to a screen that at the top of the screen says PSP Update ver 3.01 and asks me to click START.
5. THe next screen is the user agreement and then asks me to accept or not.
Is this the right place?
Thanks so much.

Aslong as it says 3.01 Devhook firmware installer then yes start it. You should see a ton of text going down the screen, just wait for it to finish. Maybe you don't need to emulate 1.50 to use it..

Must be, even though it says Sony, means nothing. Is the letters on the memory stick like stickers? If its not factory written on there then its a junk one.

MidnightJ,
Thanks for getting back to me and letting me know that I might not have to go through the 1.50 step.
My hesitation to clicking yes to update is that it does not look like how you describe and I am afraid it will change my firmware from 2.71 to 3.01. Since I am accesing it through the memory stick though, will this actully affect my psp or is it a "hack" isolated on the memory stick?
Thanks

I just checked for how to find out if a memory stick is genuine or counterfeit on an ebay guide. Mine is 100% genuine. Here's a pic of the front and back:

I will also post a video of what happens when i run the 3.01 firmware installer later on today.
HERE IS THE VIDEO:
http://s208.photobucket.com/albums/bb139...rent=Video3.flv
ALSO: Where do I place the eboot.pbp file??? I put it in the root of my memory stick. If i put it in MS/PSP/GAME/UPDATE, when i got to games/memory stick on my psp, it say 3.01 fw update instead of saying 3.01 dh fw installer so i am scared that it might change my firmware to 3.01 from 2.71. THANKS FOR UR HELP!!!

HEY!!! I GOT IT TO WORK YEAH FOR ME!!! In the root of my Memory Stick/dh I created a folder calle 301 and inside it, I made one called f0 and one called f1. Now, when i ran the 3.01 dh fw installer it worked. All the text went down the screen and it rebooted and it worked.

Thanks for all your help. I need just a bit more help. You say to:
10. Okay, now turn your PSP on, enable HEN-D mode through the photo. Wait for restart. Now go to your PSP Game directory on your PSP and select DEVHOOK 0.51 BETA for 2.71. ***I DID THIS***
11. Should come up with the black background, purple box menu again. Now go to firmware and select 3.01. Go to start and it should come up with another error code.
***IT COMES UP WITH A BLACK SCREEN BUT NO PURPLE BOX***
PLEASE HELP.

Hi. I didn't get time to report on my progress. A couple of days ago I posted that I got everything working. I take that back.
Although the fw installer worked now when I run DEVHOOK .51 BETA FOR 2.71, I get a black screen with the white text but no purple box. It works if I run .4xxx for 2.71 but I can't emulate 3.01. PLEAS HELP ASAP!!!

I hope a new Devhook update does come out.
My PSP Firmware History: 2.60 had to return the PSP because it had a dead pixel > new PSP had firmware 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.52 M33 > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33 with 1.50 kernel

Okay cool, managed to do the 3.01 fw update (although it didn't reboot after the 10 second countdown, it just went back to main menu), but when I open .51 beta now i'm getting the black screen, w/ white writing and no purple box also.
Also, that 3.01 update I installed, is that permanent? I mean if I format my MS, will everything go back to factory/stock standard as if i'd done nothing to the psp?
Appologies for being slightly pedantic, but I want to stay with standard 2.71 (not going to downgrade and risk bricking), so I wanna be able to go back to stock standard whenever I want (esp. if I want to keep my warranty).
