I'm on 2.0 how do I prepare to install the custom FW? Do I need to downgrade? and any ideas where I can do this?

Hey, you need to downgrade to 1.5, then from there u have several options...u can upgrade to custom firmware 3.40OE-A or the Russians' CFW (3.52-M33 or sth like that:P)..
I'm still on 3.40OE-A cuz that seems to work just perfect..

u can find the 2.00 downgrader at none other than AFTERDAWN!!!! so click here for tutorial
edit: u can prolly find it at other places...

THere's also another solution dude...
What i did at the time was upgrade from my existing 2.60 firmware to 2.71...then with downgraded 2.71 to 1.5....and then upgrade to custom firmware..
If you can't find what your looking for...give it a try...upgrade to 2.71..and downgrade from there on..

What you need to do is create a folder called UPDATE on your memory stick and place the EBOOT.PBP into the folder..
On your psp go to Game and Update your psp..
Once you have firmware 2.71..you need to downgrade...Here's the link:

Don't forget to CHECK if you have a TA-082 Motherboard...if you do..

THats pretty much all there is to it..

Is there any chance this PSP could have a mobo that will disallow downgrades? It does not have the serial code top right, but it could still be one of those... I have no previous history apart from it was bought in Japan, its a white PSP and I received it (unboxed) with FW 2.0

Oh come on! You really think Sony never forced Dark_Alex to "retire". With the release of their new PSP 2000, you think they would DARE risk allowing Dark_Alex to get his hands on it. They are retarded though. Image their sales if they just let, or better yet, helped Dark_Alex create an OE Firmware 4.00. God knows I'd spend $200 for a supercharged PSP if Dark_Alex could offer an OE.

actually i believe they didnt force him to quit i believe they were waiting for e3 to anouce the psp2000 not for some hacker to quit and wat i think is Dark Alex (dont shoot me for saying this) is a traitor to his own cause i think sony talks to him(and pays him) about the FLAWS in new firmware and if they did make an ultimate 4.00 oe firmware then they should sell it not give it away for free like all the other firmware, and i am most postive that there will be an open edition for 3.60 but just for the fat psp(if it will be able to use it)

It's not your fault fox. I've come to terms with Dark_Alex that he's helping Sony. Why else would he allow some Russians (no offense) to take control on the CFM world? It just saddens me. His OE CFM were damn near perfect: stable, reliable, high-compatibility. Please ... remember the Dark_Alex ... as he used to be, and not as he is now. (A Back-Stabbing Heartless Good-For-Nothing ANTI AMERICAN CORPORATE SELLOUT!!!!!) Good man ........ goooood man.

A thought just occured to me (holy **** that's a miracle), the source code for 3.40OE-A is available to the public. Why can't someone who's familiar with Dark_Alex's work continue off on it. M33 did it, so why can't the OE CFM live on? OE ALL THE WAY!!

It was just that i'm collectin info from, various sources, (can't be too careful) about downgrading my 2.01 PSP and the link that somebody gave me for the custom FW had both options, one with the apostrophe at the end but now i look back at it one's th 3.30 version. I've came across 3.40 LE CFW since then so i think i better stop looking before somethin else shiny catches my eye. Her is the link :
