After reading and following Run Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) on PS3 Tutorial steps when i get to this point screen just goes blank
Installing Yellow Dog Linux
1. Power on your PS3.
2. Insert the Yellow Dog Linux DVD you created, into the PS3.
3. The bootloader "kboot" is displayed on-screen (at this point if you are connected to an HDTV just wait 10 seconds, and it will automatically install! For you others, bear with me!!!)!
4. Enter Anaconda (the Yellow Dog Linux installer) and move forward with the installation of Linux, as guided on-screen!

nothing loads up for sum reasson? any help i load the dvd and it boots then it just goes blank and nothing happens for hour's?

Ok here we go. I hardly ever ask for help because I rarely need it, but right now, I need it.

Ok so I have installed Yellow Dog Linux. When I boot my ps3 I wait for the kboot and either enter ydltext or ydl480i
Then when I try to type the wget command, it downloads for a few secs and stops giving me "temporary errors" then nothing happens. I really am stuck and it wont download the file.

(by the way I am using a non-HDTV)

Help.
Please.

hey guys, my roommate has a ps3 (i think 40 gig) and i'm wanting to turn it into a media center controller type box. basically i have a 1tb NAS on my network where i save dvds in .iso, video_ts/audio_ts, hddvds in .mkv and .ts, basically a whole bunch of file types that the ps3 or xbox360 won't read, so i want to load linux on his ps3 and set up VLC to play all my content off the NAS.

i was about to install yellowdog 6.0 on it but i saw at the beginning of this thread someone had put fedora 5.0 on the ps3. which one is easier to get VLC up and running with? I've only messed with Gentoo and Ubuntu for the most part.

okay i need some serious help, i started to install linux without having a keyboard or mouse, because i was planning on getting one later that night, so when i started installing it, i ran the bootloader, and im at the screen with the 2 penguins, and at the bottom it just keeps scrolling kboot: g ... or something like that, and when i insert the ydl install dvd the screen goes all scratchy, im guessing because i dont have hdtv, but when i plug in my usb keyboard that i bought from walmart, it scrolls "drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irg status -32 received" and it just keeps scrolling it, not allowing me to type anything in, and this is really pissing me off, i cant get back to my regular ps3 xmb from here, and id really like to have linux installed, what am i doing wrong, can someone please help me step by step, because my ps3 is useless right now, thanks

okay, now i let the "drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irg status -32 received" screen scroll for about 20 minutes, and the screen went blank

In linux there is a command either ps3-boot-game-os or just boot-game-os
you need to be root or use sudo for it to work.

No, you will need a keyboard. Even if you could it would be a complete pain to use Linux without one.

Hi there. I have recently upgraded my PS3 with a 250 GB HDD, and installed Yellow Dog Linux 6.0. I was informed that the best plan was to give the majority of space to YDL and 10 GB for the PS3, as more space could be given to the PS3 at a later stage.

Problem is, I can't find a partition editor in YDL to resize the PS3 partition. I have tried downloading and installing gparted, but there is an error while configuring it. Can anyone help me to either find the partition editor or direct me to a different partition editor that will work?

I think the original options offered by Sony are silly if you have a HDD bigger than 60 GB. 10 GB isn't enough for either OS.

Please can someone help?

We are now going to install the two files that we downloaded onto the USB Jump Drive!
1. Insert the USB Jump Drive, into the PS3.
2. From the GameOS menu, select: Settings ==> System Settings ==> Install Other OS
3. Your PS3 will now scan the USB Jump Drive, for the Bootloader Installer & Bootloader.
4. Confirm the discovery of "/ps3/otheros/otheros.self".
but it said otheros.bld and i pressed yes..now my system is doing something with the 2 penguins and i get back to fix it....what do i do...plzi hope someone can help me out

I have tried to install YDL and have the error 'lease failed' (or something very similar) After numerous attempts I decided to try the whole guide again and at this point
Quote:

4. Confirm the discovery of "/ps3/otheros/otheros.self

I noticed that on my ps3 it says '.../otheros.bld' is this the cause of the problem and how can i correct it?
Thanks
