Oh well I couldn't complain, it runs way better than it did before I sent if back.

Thanks for the response though
Hope all works out for you :)
It didn't for me,and Gee are M$ difficult to talk to,mine only lasted something like 34 days after repair and they wouldn't replace mine because it was out of the 30 day time frame, mind you only 4 days out, they wouldn't budge on an RA #(return authorisation)I had a few choice words for them,(because we haven't actually got xbox 360 support here in australia-they are based in the phillipines or india, not to sure of the exact location, but they definately aren't in australia)they don't know our consumer laws, they say they do,but they don't,so they said I would have to take my enquiry up with the retailer,my enquiry was a refund or brand new replacement, anyways to cut a long story short.I did,I contacted the head office of the retailer and by the end of the buisness day I had a brand spanking new 360,I asked because of the inconvenience could I have it replaced with an elite, they said if thats what you want, thats what you shall get,so,so far so good with the elite, running quiter, has the benq drive.

Ok so I just got the RROD again!! I got the RROD about 6 months ago, and then I didn't touch the console for 2 weeks, turned it back on, and it worked fine until a few days ago. I need to send this in for repairs, but the problem is this system is modded and I don't have a warranty anyways, so Microsoft is out. Anyone have any suggestions on where else to send it for repairs?

Ok, Firstly,If my memory serves me correct, anyone experiencing RROD and have had their consoles repaired by Microsoft automatically get an extended 3 year warrant on the RROD,so therefore you should be covered.Secondly,if the console was modified(flashed-only)and whoever did the flashing should of taken extreme care with the stickers,if they are still intact, get in touch with xbox360 support for repair,I'm sure you know the drill with M$ :)
M$ have no way of telling your console is flashed, well they do(by sticking in a back up copy of a game),but they would be contradicting their own contractual agreements and state laws on back up copies as each state/country has different laws in regards to this.
A majority of the xbox 360 service centres don't give a nelly now about stickers, because of the worlwide problem with the 360 consoles,so they just repair them or toss them and give you a new one or a refurbished one.(although you will occassionally get a clown that will refuse to fix your console if they see it has been tampered with)
Hope this helps you out a little

Say if I get a Samsung drive back, is it really easy to flash those? Are there any good guides?

I am lead to believe samsungs are easy to flash, but you are more than likely to get a Benq back, but just hope you get the right one as also from memory 360 is also now using liteons and they look like Benq's and i think there is also another Benq(second version of Benq) that can't be flashed(as of yet)

Oh well, here is to hoping I get one that can be flashed. I found an excellent tutorial at Xboxmods.net.

Only problem is that I wont have my "real"(AKA Gaming) computer when I get my 360 back because I'm selling it. My other computer doesn't have SATA ports. But I guess I can borrow my Uncles computer or something...

thanks for the feedback, but my console has never been repaired by MS before. I bought it already modded online, and when I got the RROD the 1st time it went away two weeks later, so no need for repairs until now. Does this info impact your suggestions?

You could try phoning xbox 360 support and just explain that you bought a second hand xbox, did you get a receipt? they can tell if it has been in for repair by the prior owner on any issue,so they would be able to tell you if it's been in before with the RROD just by giving them the serial number, but whatever you do don't tell them it has been tampered with, because they do ask you if it has, that may be worth a shot.

My xbox just got e73 error. This is the second time it has had e73 error and has also had e74 twice, all of which have been repaired by microsoft. It's so stupid that there fix does not permanately fix the problem. To make things worse, it is out of the one year warranty and is not covered under 3 year warranty... looks like i'm going to have to con ms.

Wow. There are definitely a few things I have to add about bad 360 experiences. I bought a 360 as soon as they came out. I bought oblivion for it. The first game I ever played on it. Two months later my box starts freezing while I am playing oblivion. So I take the box back to fallfart. They don't have any in stock so they give me a gift card to use when they do get some in. I had to wait 3 weeks before I was there when they had any in stock. After I received my new box I promptly started oblivion all over again because I lost my save that was on my hard drive. So my box freezes again while I was playing oblivion. My friend has the great idea of tipping my xbox on its side while I am playing the game. Well most of us now know how that goes...we were surprised to hear a loud screech emit from my box. Thankfully, no one was injured...yet. Conveniently enough. 3 months later (outside of warranty)my box loses all video output yet I can still hear audio. What is this? I contact mc and register my box and all that good stuff. They say that they have never heard of any problem like this but will fix it for approximately 120usd. How can you fix something that you don't know the solution to. I hung up the phone. I get the clever idea of buying a core system. I switch out the bad box with the good one and return it. Lucky for me the guy at fallfart was a dunce because he didn't notice that core systems don't have silver trays...lol. Now I officially have no warranty with fallfart. A while goes by and everything seems fine. I have my oblivion save still so I get to play that for hours on end. Then a month of so later my box gets the dreaded RROD!!! Oh no! What will I do? Seeing that I no longer have any kind of warranty, I decide to disassemble my box to see what all there is to see. Nothing much really...rather disappointing. I hopped on some forums to see that I was not the only one with the now dreaded RROD! I thought to myself, "I just lost 400usd." A couple days of playing on my friend's box go by and then I hear on G4 the most disturbing news I have heard my entire life! MC has announced that they have extended an automatic 3 year warranty to any xbox owner that receives 3 red lights. My eyes widen, and then, the punch line. As long as their warranty is not void by opening the system or tampering. NO!!! The irony! Why me?! What a mind trip. So I give up and buy another arcade system from fallfart. Now having spent over 700usd and many hours re-replaying oblivion I have a stable, working box that hasn't given me trouble yet. I fixed my other box later on after trying all the tricks online. I did the towel first...my box worked for 30 min then red ringed again. After that I let it run with no fans for 20 min till it overheated. It fell over in this process which somehow made it work for a week. The 3rd time I tried to fix this was with the x-clamp trick. This worked for a month then RRed. Now its sitting in a shop somewhere waiting to be refurbished (hopefully for good) and I will have what I spent so much money and time on back in my arms at last...
P.S. My friend's box had a freezing issue so he tried to do the swap trick I did...his mom almost got arrested because so many people have done that with them...just a funny thought.

I staggered and fell over once I read "fallfart" but I picked myself up and grudged through the rest of it.

tl;dr version: 360 #1 died. 360 #2 died. 360 #3 is dead. 360 #4 is k.

Had my XBox since Christmas '07. August of '09 got the 3 red lights. Rebooted the system and got it back up and running. Played for about a day and then got the 2 red lights which means overheating. The 2 red lights would appear immediately after booting and after the xbox had been off for 24 hours. I tried cleaning the heat sinks and finally did the xclamp replacement. Nothing worked. Paying $100 to send to Microsoft repair center...hope to god they don't shaft me.

MeThisGuy's story is pretty heartbreaking....though all in all i think i have the worst story out there.

I actually found out who stole my xbox's and it was one of my roomates crackhead friends that stole my roomates key and made a copy. So i changed all the locks in the house and built a fortress so you'd have to ram the wall down with a bulldozer. Not many people have seen a door with 2 deadbolts before.

Before all this happened they were sitting in the den smoking pot and made a fire in the fireplace. I've lived in this house for quite a while and never cleaned out the chimney. Well they started a fire and caught the chimney on fire. I was passed out after a 14 hour day at work and they come banging on my door. I come upstairs and all i see is black smoke. So needless to say we almost lost the house because they didn't put the fire out after the chimney started roaring like a jet engine.

Three months after i bought a brand new elite at best buy for $450 the damn thing began to freeze. I ended up sending it back to ms then taking it apart and making it this monstrosity.

Haven't had a single problem with it since.

The damage has already been done to the 360, you'll either need a reflow or need to do the heatgun fix. Before i bought my reflow machine i would use an old rubber foot from an original xbox and a 1mm thick washer under each ram chip. This would normally fix the freezing issues because it would apply pressure to the ram to help restore continuity. Make sure you use the xclamp replacement where you drill though the metal case and have 4mm of space beteween the bottom of the metal case and the board and 2mm between the board and the heatsink. This is also known as the llamma xclamp fix.

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/rin...x-clamp_fix.htm

Just remember that the solder that microsoft uses takes roughly 450F to melt, so if you try to overheat your xbox you won't even get close to melting the solder. The hottest temp i ever recorded an xbox overheating at is 260F and it was ready to explode.

Good luck and if you need help feel free to pm me.

Hey penner, thanks for contributing absolutely nothing to this thread. You could have just read it and kept browsing new posts but no you had to respond with an ignorant comment. By the way the thread is dead, the forum is very much alive.
