You need to change the cpu clock speed to 333mhz for dexter to work.

#1: 2.81 -> 3.03 -> 3.11 DoH (no more :D)
#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c
#3: Ceramic white 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c -> 3.40oe
Whatever happens, happens...

Well mostly its getting a few games to work. I've followed the instructions in this tutorial, but whenever I load the game its a black screen with nothing, I can still press 'Home' to get to the XMB.

Any idea what might be wrong.

Here is the info:

Firmware - 3.40 OE-A
Game - Daxter

Is there any special settings for this game?
Not that I am aware of...Just make sure you have a game inserted in the UMD drive, and that your settings are right in recovery...If you are just getting a black screen during the loading process, you may want to try downloading the game again from a different source..

Ok I know that the format of the memory card has to be FAT32. But when I format the memory card on the PSP the mem card is FAT. When I do it on the PC, the mem card is FAT32. Can I do it FAT32 through the PSP? I have a lot of problems with my mem card and I realized that its because it is fake.
Thanks,
Nicos

No, what you'll have to do is format via the psp to get the folder directory, then copy those folders to your computer-and then format the memory stick via your computer so its FAT32-then you can drop the folders back onto your memory stick...

Sure, thats in the system settings menu-I think its in the same menu as "format memory stick", and the "battery information"..

Sorry, you are stuck-no ISO's for you until you downgrade your PSP...find somebody that has a PSP running either 1.50 firmware, or a custom firmware-so they can make a Pandora's Battery for you to downgrade with....

Happy searching!

why dont you sell your current psp on eBay, and get another one which firmware is 3.50 or lower ?

You are going to have to find someone with a homebrew-able psp that can make a battery for you, so you can downgrade-otherwise you can search ebay for people that either sell the pre-made batteries, or offer their services for a fee...Your serial numbers would be located on the bottom of the psp, its a sticker with numbers on it-

Mics? like a Microphone headset deal? try ebay for that...

I seriously doubt gamestop would carry pandora batteries...Its hard enough to get a copy of unpatched GTA:LCS, or Lumines from them because they usually have people who work there that are in the know about psp hacking, and they end up pulling the stuff you need off the shelves...I guess ebay is where you should go for your needs...

@rajjtizon-the reason you cant get into recovery mode is because you are not running custom firmware..You will need to downgrade your psp first...Find an unpatched copy of Lumines and get yourself a downgrader from qj.net-

No, you need to be on 3.50 to downgrade with Lumines-Otherwise you need the battery if you are on 3.51 or 3.52 firmwares...And the battery would need to be made by someone that has a psp with 1.50 or custom firmwares...

***UPDATE*** The custom firmwares from the M33 team are coming out. Already out are 3.51 M33-7 which means it is 3.51 m33 with the 7th update, you inly install the newest update if they come out, and 3.52 M33 which came out very recently. They both have a support of Sony's ISO loader, and instead of having to put a UMD in the tray, you can play without one. Kudos to the M33 team and I suggest you guys upgrade, use the legitimate way, do not use installers. Here is a great tutorial for 3.52 M33 which I used: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-disc...ere-114268.html

GOOD LUCK WITH ISOS, the process is still the same for the M33's as well, instead of disabling the NO-UMD option, you click till you get to Sony NXXXXsomething something or M33 Udate driver something, and you won't need a UMD in your tray to play ISOs and CSOs***

If you are fair, you will close this tutorial, and wait until the game is on sale, and buy it then, but if you are a greedy cheap bastard, you will read this tutorial and learn how to do it!

Ok guys!

THIS TUT ASSUMES THAT YOUR PSP IS MODDED, THAT YOU HAVE A CUSTOM FIRMWARE OR SO. THIS TUT ALSO ASSUMES THAT YOU ARE NOT A NOOB AND ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE BASIC FUNCTIONS AND TRANSFERING FILES TO YOUR PSP, AS WELL AS GOING TO THE RECOVERY MODE WIHOUT PISING YOUR PANTS.

First off, you need to have a 3.40 OE-A custom firmware installed. There are automatic installers, look around the forum for it, or post here and I will give the link to the auto installer for 3.40 OE-A. To learn more about custom firmwares search.

Ok, this is a tutorial that should teach you how to setup ISO's and CSO's so you can play them on your custom firmware.

PREFERRED CFW (custom fw) 3.40 OE-A

Before you begin, pray for Dark_AleX to be back on the scene, and wish him luck in life!

I DO NOT ENCOURAGE PIRACY! BUY THE GAMES! However, here is a tut because I want to help the comunity!

NOTE: TO PLAY ISO/CSO YOU MUST OWN ONE LEGIT UMD, CANNOT BE A MOVIE, A DEMO DISK COULD WORK, BUT A LEGIT UMD IS A MUST IN YOUR DRIVE AT ALL TIME!

Whether you have a fake 2 GB or a magic gate supported SanDisk mem stick, you have to reformat it from the PSP. This will create all the stock folders, and the ISO folder as well, so you do not have to worry about a thing

Make sure you back up all your songs, gamesaves, pictures and such that you do not wanna lose.

After you format your memstick from the PSP, go to USB mode from the PSP, and put your ISO or CSO file image in the ISO folder. If your game is not in ISO or CSO image format, then post and I will provide you with UMD gen and then you can create the image

Once in USB mode, copy/paste or drag/drop your image/game into the ISO folder in the root of the stick.

Now, get out of USB mode, and check in the game section, under memory stick or so, check if the game is there.

Ok, so since you checked that the game is there, turn off your PSP completely.

To turn off your PSP completely, you hold the off button for about 7 seconds, and it will be off.

Now you will need to go to the recovery mode. Hold the R shoulder button, and while holding it, turn on the PSP, you will see a blue MSDOS looking screen. DO NOT PANIC, nothing scary.

In the main menu in the recovery mode, scoll down to configuration, enter it by pressing X and do the following:

To disable an option, just highlight it, and press X, if it says ENABLED, then you click X to make it DISABLED

Use no UMD: Disable it

I have FAKE REGION at disabled as well for some reason, make sure it is like that

FREE UMD REGION" have it disabled as well

IMPORTANT UPDATE TO THE TUT:
SET GAME FOLDER HOMEBREW TO 1.50 KERNEL. HERE IS A LINK TO ANOTHER TUT WITH PICS. LOOK AT THE RECOVERY MODE PICS FOR REFERENCE.

Ok, now go to back, and back out to the main menu.

Now scroll down to ADVANCED, and then go to ADVANCED CONFIGURATION

Disable all of 3 options in there.

Back out, and exit the recovery mode. Now you migh have lost your wallpaper, so set your wallpaper again if you had a picture as your wallpaper. Nothing scary

Ok, now go to the game section, scroll down to Memory Stick, before you launch the game, press triangle and see if your card is fake or not, post here if it is or not, to determine that, it will either say it is magic gate suported which means its legit, or if it doesnt than its a fake. Either way post it.

Now, after you've checked that optional thing, you can launch the game. It should work

NOTE: You might have to do those options sometimes over and over in case they reset after a while

You are done with the tut! Good luck! Post for any help, and sticky this thread mods!

Shoutouts to: backvamp for helping me run my own games and Dark_Alex for creating this awesome custom firmware

I had the same problem trying to play the Metal Slug Anthology iso (psp hangs without booting the game) but now I got it to work. I tried trimming the filename down. Originally it was named "Metal Slug Anthology [USA][UMDFull][English][PSP][www.emwreloaded.com].iso" so I just renamed it to "Metal Slug Anthology.iso" and it booted right up. Apparently there is a limitation in the length of filenames. I tried it with a Gundam game that was giving me the same problem and it also worked. Try it out.

Nice Tutorial...

I have 2 memsticks-a 2GB (fake) and 4GB (genuine)-guess which one I use in my camera now?

From what I have read, as well as experienced-these are common issues with fake memory sticks:
-Games not showing up in the menu
-Games refuse to load-even though there is nothing wrong with the iso
-Gamesaves become corrupt data icons
-Cannot load more than one or two games at a time onto the memory stick
-data becomes lost once you power off your PSP
-cannot copy/paste to and from your computer-data becomes
corrupt-mostly with videos/movies and iso games
-problems loading homebrew applications/games
-problems with emulators

My recommendation, and I am sure other members will agree-is to get your memory from a reliable source and not from eBay.

THIS GUY IS WRONG!!!

Where it says "Use no UMD: Disable it" You are really meant to ENABLE IT, so you can play games from the memory stick without the need of a UMD.

Even works on fake memory sticks!!!

Although some games may need UMD.

If there are any questions plz post a comment or pm me.

I dont think he was necessarily wrong there-You keep a UMD game in the drive for maximum compatibility so you aren't having to flip-flop back and forth if you run into a game that requires having a UMD in the drive..If you look at pretty much every tutorial or guide on this and other forums-it says the same thing-I mean what happens if someone who doesnt know any better downloads a game, and their setting is set to "enable"-and then the game doesnt load? Well, then they come on here and ask "hey why doesnt my game work?", and then we end up getting into a 15 page thread telling people that its either a bad rip of the game, OR they dont have their setting "disabled"...(Which happens to be set to disabled by default when you first install the firmware anyway) You would be amazed at how many threads in just this forum alone are on that topic...Thats why its best to just keep it disabled and have a UMD game in the drive...
And speaking of fake memory sticks, I brought my old 2GB to gamestop, and they gave me $22 in store credit for it-which is better than what it was doing sitting collecting dust...I just feel sorry for the chump that pays $60 or whatever they charge for them to find out it doesnt work...

Hi, just a quick check before i dive right in and do this.

My PSP is still a 1.5 running Devhook which will emulate FW up to 2.71.
I've not played it in a while, and have just got a few isos which require FW3.51.

This tutorial seems to suggest that i will be able to play these on my PSP if i go through the steps - right?

My worry is that this method requires me to upgrade to FW3.40 OE-A (i have never heard of this, is it a firmware by someone other than Sony?).
If i go ahead and upgrade, will i be able to downgrade again if anything goes wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Following on from my last post (it won't seem to let me edit it)

Is all i need to do install 3.52m33-4?
Will i then be able to play 3.51 ISOs/CSOs with no backwards-compatibility issues?

Yes, just follow the guide below to get your psp to play iso's and whatnot-Custom firmware is basically official sony firmware that has been modified so it will allow you to play your psp games as well as homebrew and console emulators (nes, snes, sega)...Once you have installed the custom firmware of your choosing, you will no longer require the need for devhook, as you are actually using the higher firmware instead of just emulating it..

(Thanks and credit go to larrylje for creating this mini-tutorial)

Follow the below instructions to upgrade to 3.52 M33-4.

3.52 M33 HERE

3.52 M33-4 HERE

3.52 firmware HERE

1.50 firmware HERE

Download the 3.52 M33 CFW linked above. Extract the file.

Download both the 1.50 and 3.52 firmware. You need to re-name the 3.52 firmware to 352.PBP the 1.50 firmware to 150.PBP. Then add them to the M33CREATOR folder.

Now copy the M33CREATOR folder and the kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders to the PSP MS directory of ms0:/PSP/GAME folder.

Now go to Game Menu Memory Stick and run the KXploit Permanent Patcher. It should run and say patched successfully and reboot back to the XMB.

Now go to game Menu Memory Stick and run the M33CREATOR.

After you run the M33CREATOR it should reboot back to the XMB. It should have created a 3.52 M33 update which you need to select in the Game Menu Memory Stick.

It will flash the files to the PSP and you should be at 3.52 M33 firmware. If it is then format your MS.

Now extract the 3.52 M33-4 update.

Drag the PSP folder that is in the update M33-4 into the root of the MS overwriting the files when it asks you to. Now go to Game Menu Memory Stick and run the m33-4 update. This will only take a few seconds.

After the update is finished check and make sure it says 3.52 M33-4 for firmware. If it does say 3.52 m33-4 then format the MS 1 more time.

You are now updated to 3.52 M33-4.

-------------------------------------------

Here are some tips to follow if you have issues with ISO files running.

Make sure the title of the ISO/CSO is short.

Example:

Correct -- Fifa07.iso
Not Correct -- FIFA-07-[PSP][EUR][www.torrent site.com].iso

Now right click on the ISO/CSO file and choose Properties. Make sure the Read Only and Hidden box is unchecked and the Archive Box is checked.

Go into recovery mode (Hold R shoulder button down while turning on PSP)

Now go to configuration then to UMD MODE and keep pressing X till you see Sony NP9660 NO UMD.

When it is set to the above setting go to BACK and press X.

Now go to ADVANCED and press X.

Go to ADVANCED CONFIGURATION and press X.

Make sure all the settings here are disabled.

Now EXIT out of recovery.

Now try the ISO/CSO.
