Thanks benny.

I can confirm also that Jap Galaxy will work on a 1.9g Wiikey'd Jap console.

My friend updated his Wiinja Deluxe'd NTSC-J and it also worked.

So fingers crossed you've got oen of those. Mine was also modded in China and I hear that Wiikey is virtually the default choice there.

As for the update disc itself, yep, just burn the Wiikey 1.9g jap.iso to DVD and whack it in. It'll do a test first, then the update (each process separately goes to 100%), then you'll hear Homer's voice and it'll say reboot. You should be good to go then. To initiate the test/update, you'll have to press A on a Game Cube pad or (so I've heard) press the Reset button on your Wii to execute the same.

Best of luck!

It's a tremendous game.

The 1.9 update is only a beta version still correct? are there still problems of messing up peoples wiikey's and not allowing the reading of backups? or has this subsided and people are actually successfully doing this?

thanks.

Hi!
I was wondering if we could launch the original disc of Mario Galaxy on modded Wii, without any chip update?

Thanks for your answer.

Lennox --

If other people are having problems, then I'm sure there's some possibility you could too. But for what it's worth, I just updated to 1.9g and I can still play backups. And risking the mod chip still doesn't compare to risking a bricked Wii (which I haven't heard anyone talking about from the 1.9g update)

I figured out my problem from before: apparently just burning the 1.9g iso wasn't enough -- it wasn't until I expanded it with filechop that it worked.

I updated my wii with the 1.9g pal version. Previously SMG wasn't working and now seems to work okay. My only other query which maybe I missed somewhere along this long thread is when I go into Wii Options and go into Wii Settings I get an Opera error. Appears the explorer isn't display. I get a blank error page and no longer can access my Wii settings. Anyone experiencing the same issue and know a fix to that?

Also wanted to say thanks to the guys posting the 1.9g fix. After reading this thread I felt comfortable enough to download and give it a try and it worked. Well at least got my game working but still don't know about the Wii Settings browser issue.

so is the general consensus to wait for an official release patch or give it a go? i am not a modder inclined person so i do not want to damage my wii key. can someone please explain how i would use filechop and the necessary steps to update to 1.9. also do i need to update to the new config before 1.9? thanks guys.

I've been a big advocate of wiikey but I'm starting to think the grass might be greener on the cyclowiz side of the fence
Dont buy Cyclowiz, they are the same makers of Wiid, they haven't release a wiid update to make people pay again for another modchip

didn't get any responses, so i'm trying it again :)

alright..so i read through everything and i still have a question:

i am using a NTSC U wii in the UK. am i able to update my wii via wifi to 3.1u? i am on 2.2u right now. i dont have wifi until tomorrow, so i was just wondering if - no matter where you are - the wii gets the right (ntsc) update.
also, does it matter what country i select in the options? atm its still on US.

secondly, i have wiikey 1.2 or 1.3 installed...so am i right in assuming that the order of updates (wiikey / wii) is irrelevant to the outcome?

thanks

Bad news on the SMG front. Retail NTSC-U SMG disc will NOT play in my NTSC-J Wii with wiikey 1.9g. The backup copy of NTSC-J SMG does play just fine with wiikey 1.9g on this wii box.

The NTSC-U SMG disc displays the initial logo and then after starting the game it goes straight to the black screen and the wiimote loses communication with the wii. Power-off is required at this point. No difference with the backup NTSC-U SMG disc either -- same behavior, initial SMG logo then start the game then black screen (which is probably where the safety screen is normally displayed).

Older NTSC-U backups still play just fine as do Gamecube backups on this wii with wiikey 1.9g.

So for those of you asking about the retail SMG discs, it appears they will NOT play on your NTSC-J wii units. I suspect the wiikey firmware still needs some more work. I hope the wiikey people see more messages like this one and get busy on a fix!

when's the PAL version coming out? Should be available in Europe today or tomorrow (i'm in AUS, so it's already the 15th...), so how long does it take to usually make it to newsgroups?

can't wait, all these 10/10 reviews are such a tease....

Can't get SMG (PAL) to work on a PAL Wii. It just spins and gives me the error message.

Details are: PAL Wii with 3.1E update. Wiikey with 1.9g firmware.

Also, the 1.3 config disc no longer works! It worked once after I updated to 1.9g, but doesn't work anymore.

Hi everybody. I have a Nintendo Wii, it is modded with Wiikey. I did the following steps to run Mario Galaxy:
1º Put the game and did the update
2º Put the 1.9g firmware using the disc from wiikey site
3º Put SMG and i still have the error 1.
I have already updated the wii version to 3.1. My Wii is USA and so is SMG. What else can it be? Could it be the media? The 1.9b was my first Firmware update do i need to install some older vesrion before that?

Thanks!

I have a Japan Wii updated it to the latest 3.1J, as well as my wiikey to 1.9g using the jap format one.

I burned the SMG, popped it in my wii, installed the update, restart, see the SMG icon and hear it saying "SUPER MARIO GALAXY", but when I launched it, the game just stop at a black screen (the SMG is NTSC format).

Why is that?
