Getting it from codejunkies is much better then e-bay.
Codejunkies is always slow but that's Datel website so at least you are getting the real deal unlike ebay which can be pot luck.

Do you necessarily need the Datel battery? Or can I just use a sony battery? I would prefer to just use the sony battery because I went on and bought another.

Does it contain the latest custom firmware, and can it be self updated if new firmwares were to be created?

Has a torrent been created using these files? I have dial-up connection, for the moment, but I'll take me ages to download 223MB at least torrents can be paused and resumed.

Is there a guide that only unbricks and only downgrades to 1.5? I'm not looking to upgrade to custom firmware using this method because I've read through at least 60 posts that explains that using a sony battery won't allow me to install custom firmware by using the method that this guide is using. I want to make a sony battery, I know I can use a sony battery because my neighbor has one, that will allow me only to recover from bricks and restore back to 1.5 only. I'll install the custom firmwares using PSP Installer Deluxe v3.0, which I'm currently downloading at the moment.

Need a little clarification please... Can I go from OFW directly to 3.90 M33-3? Why go to 3.71 and then constantly update to get to the latest version? Is this an issue with the newer motherboards or something?

I'm on a PSP SLIM OFW 3.95

This method installs 3.71 M33 custom firmware. So I don't get where you come off saying this method will not install custom firmware.

As for your neighbor that has a Sony Battery as far as that goes it might be a Sony Battery but it has been converted to a Pandora Battery if it is unbricking/downgrading PSP's to 1.50 firmware.

It is kind of pointless to create a Magic Memory stick that recovers/downgrades to 1.50 firmware if all your going to do is upgrade back to custom firmware. Use this guide and it will install 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware.

In this guide I assume the user only has an Official PSP if that is the case then the only way to convert a Sony Battery to a Pandora Battery is via Hardmod or buy a Datel Tool Battery. Official Firmware PSPs can not run the program that converts the Sony Battery to a Pandora Battery this is why a Hardmod or Datel Tool Battery is needed.

If you want to convert the Sony Battery via program then you will need a Custom Firmware PSP and this guide HERE.

This guide will install 3.71 M33-2 all you have to do is run 3.90 M33-3 update via MUX to get to 3.90 M33-3 custom firmware. There is no need to go through all other updates. I use 3.71 M33-2 easy installer because there are some that want 3.71 M33-2 and those that want above that can easily update to whatever newer firmware they want by running the update via MUX. If you want to go to 3.90 Official directly to 3.90 M33-3 then you will need to find another guide and easy installer to do so.

larrylje no doubts you are a star for throwing that guide together. You and all hte contributors of this thread have enlisted me on this site. Thanks guys!

One question though.........

Did NOT work on VISTA and I tried several ways..........

Used it on a 512mb Memory Stick on my work PC (running xp) and it worked like a dream.

Both my sons PSP's (phat) are now on 3.90 m33.

I am just about to flash it on a brand new PSP slim and the box it came in says it is a 2003 console.........

Q. Is it safe?????

Cheers mate - if there was a thanks button on your thread you would be a big hitter.

Grateful to all p0sitive h4ckers everywhere.

Sorry - I am not forgetting things to get my post count up - honest - I am just exited I have finally cracked this. Thanks to you guys.

I should have also said that I have upgraded to 3.90 m33 on 2 Phat PSP's that were running on 3.90 OF and 2.81 OF (from memory).

Grateful to all p0sitive h4ckers everywhere.

Thanks for clarifying that information. I?m running official sony firmware and have never modded my psp in anyway. I don?t have the Datel Service battery. I?ll go out and buy one then. That?s the whole purpose of this guide, right? If you don?t want to use the games to downgrade and spend large amount of money, just use the Datel battery. Where can I get this battery? Can I buy the battery from the codejunkies site? About the magic memory stick, can I use a Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo? I?m a newbie at this psp modding thing, I'm kind of stressing it I've been at it for a few days.

Which battery should I get? There are several.

I'm in the same boat as you. I ordered the Datel battery from codejunkies (shipping out today)

Yes you can use the 1GB memory stick (i'm using the ones that came with my Daxter pack)

There's are three types though, The PSP Power Max and the Power Max Slim. I assume this Power Max is only for fat psp's. That's the battery I'm going to get, unless I'm told otherwise. I have the fat psp.

Whenever I put in the Datel TOOL battery, the screen stays black! It does not boot up into service mode!

I'm using a Fat 3.73 OFW psp and I followed the instruction on the memory stick installer exactly. Except, the screen that says "PSP MS IPL INSTALLER" does not show up. It flashes on the screen for a split second and then just skips to the credits page where it says "press any key to exit." I know this isn't a unique problem, since many others have stated the same thing on this forum, but I AM using window xp. Vista can't be the problem since I don't even have it. I also went out today and bought a new memory stick because others have said some just don't work. Alas, a brand new 1 gb SanDisk still refuses to work. I've done everything to try and fix this except shoot myself in the brain out of frustration. Please please please someone help me! I don't know what else to do! Am I just the one person doomed to be stuck with OFW forever??

MAte, I am a 10 year old, and i had the same problem. I charged up my TOOL battery. Put mms in, then battery. Nothing. Try puttin the battery in then the mms, and vice versa ;)

You have to format the memory stick and place the correct files into the memory card. I haven't bought the battery yet but follow the guide exactly as it says. You must be doing something wrong or missing a step that doesn't allow you to boot into the firmware menu.

There really only two types of batteries the Power Max Tool(Phat), and Power Max Tool (Slim). Or they have the Battery Service Tool (cost $20)

Both cost $25.00 plus shipping and handling adds some extra money.

I just saying, the process time is sometime about a week and after they process it. It will be about two to three weeks before you receive the product.

The Battery Service Tool:

Work with both type of battery's Slim or Phat

Turns the battery into service mode and back into regular

P.S. I have heard that this is a hard process, so I recommend buying The PSP Ower Max Tool (Slim or Phat)

Hey I'm new to this and am hoping to install custom firmware on my 3.71 OFW fat PSP later this week when I receive my Datel battery and memory card in the post.
I have been reading up on this for a couple of days and I still have a few questions.

Firstly I read that some people choose not to upgrade to the 3.90 M33 firmware from the 3.71 M33. Is there any advantages to leaving the firmware at a lower level rather than updating it?

Secondly if I choose to update to the later firmware then want to go back down to 3.71 M33 how easy is it to downgrade again?

Thirdly I will want to use the magic memory stick for file storage. Just to clarify can I use the memory stick for saving and homebrew apps for my PSP while keeping it "magic"?

Finally, even then if I accidentally brick my PSP while my card doesn't have the correct files on it can I go through the same process again only using a camcorder that uses the same cards as the card reader instead of the PSP so I can get the files without having a working PSP?

Just ask if you want any of that clarifying. Thanks in advance.

I just bought the red service battery the one that says in the description "fits into a standard psp", that's the battery I got. There's another one that says, only for slim psp users. Will I'll be able to use the battery for both fat and slim psp's? If the battery works for both, why do they offer slim and fat?

doomdiver made a good point about what would happen if the psp got bricked and you no longer had access to the memory card and the only option was a camera. I would like to know if that is possible as well.

After some long search, I've found the answer to many of my asked questions. It's best if we all have one dedicated magic card and another only for homebrew and isos, don't depend on just one memory card or outside sources like a camera.

I am using the PANDORA BATTERY 3.6V 1800mAH TOOL.

I tried using a 1gb SANDISK Memory Stick Pro Duo. Everything works up until the point previously stated. I'm thinking it has to be a defective tool, as this should work. I've tried other guides, nothing has worked.

I've never installed custom FW on this unit before. New PSP Slim, Firmware version 1.8. Any help is appreciated.
If the Tool Battery is turning on when inserted (Green Led) then it should be working. There have been numirous users that have tried allot of diffrent setups (Memory Cards/PC) before getting a setup that actually worked properly.

If you feel it is the Tool battery then ask for an exchange. The only other thing I can suggest is trying a 512MB and use diffrent PCs till you find a combo that works.
Thanks for the multiple replys.

This is where I become confused. The light literally flashes for 1/4 second, then goes off. I tried this with the memory card, without, with a 8/4/1 gb memory stick (I couldn't find smaller than 1gb). Always the same thing. I have tried the install procedure a total of 13 times, and it doesn't work. My supplier was nice enough to send me another battery (should be here soon). If it does the same thing, then I think it's obvious that it's not the battery.

I appreciate your help, and I will post my results when I get the battery.

Sorry, 1 last thing. If the AC power is not inserted, then the power light does not flash at all (when I insert the Pandora). I just want to play GOW2!

I just saying "how long did you charge up the battery" It recommends at least one hour, but most say two hours.

This probably doesn't help , but its a guess!

512MB to 1GB is recommended but some have used above 1GB perfectly fine. It just depends on the Memory Stick itself. All you can do is try it.
I have used 4GB and it is working beautifully.

I have used 4GB and it is working beautifully. Thank you so much with your tutorial. I have searched all over for this and yours is the best! Now I have question. I have no space left on my 4GB and I want to buy 8GB or 16GB. Do I have to make them magic stick again to run all my games and programs that are in my 4GB?
