ok...so this isn't really working for me as planned...

I am running PSP original firmware 3.80 on a phat PSP

I got all the way down to where the guide says to

"Disable the USB and Format your Memory Stick via System Settings. Then enable the USB again. Then press any key to continue.

Press ENTER when it ask to insert new disc (you should already have the Memory Stick in since you just formated it).

It will scan the Memory Stick. "

I disabled USB on my PSP, formatted my memory stick, then enabled the USB again.
I pressed enter, and it didn't "scan" the memory stick.
I decided to let the thing go and see what happened, and it all looked good and it copied a bunch of files, but I didn't get a screen that looked like this.

it looked more like the easyinstaller credits and info.

I decided to go on yet again, so I put in my friend's pandora battery that he used on his just fine, and turned on my PSP. IT went to the regular PSP menu, and didn't install the custom firmware.

I'm probably doing something wrong when it gets to the format memory stick part.

any answers?

thanks in advance!

Go to page 55, that question has been answered many times. An easy to understand explanation is there. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/55/610313#4172594

In order to find "msinst.exe" keep reading down the page.

Make sure your using a Pandora Battery. If it is a true Pandora Battery then you would not have to turn it on and the PSP menu shouldn't come up at all.

You should either get a black screen with the power led on or the Magic Memory Stick Menu should come up.

3.95 is for 3.95 GEN custom firmware.

1.50 is for 1.50 ADD ON files.

What exactly do the 1.50 add on files do and are they necessary to make a magic memory stick?

Also, no more 3.71 cfw anymore, just 3.95 now?

Look at the guide. It says you can stay at 3.71 M33-2 or update to any firmware higher then that.

1.50 ADD ON gives support for homebrew that requires 1.50 kernel.

Before asking any more questions about custom firmware etc. etc. do a little reading in all the PSP forums here and learn a little more. This is not the place to ask these questions. It will only add more post to a thread that is long enough. If you can't find your answer in past previous threads then start a new one instead of asking here.

HELP!!!

I thought I had a bricked PSP because the amber light would come on and nothing else. After messing with it the main menu would come up, I would see the theme and then it would shut down.

I created the MS and bought a tool to convert the battery to a service tool battery. The first time I ran it it went through almost the entire install... then it rebooted.

Now it comes up to the main install screen.. I hit X and it will get to the point where it installs to ram and then it shuts down.

Any ideas???

Is there a way to change the Mac Address that this easy installer always puts on the PSP? I'm worried about using it on Slim PSPs which can't use the Mac Address changer because they can't have the 1.50 kernel installed.

Great guide TY

I have installed 3.71 m33 and now am going straight to 3.95 m33-3. The guide says that it will flash for a few seconds, but it has been flashing for 15+ minutes. Is something going on? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Will this work with a Pandora's battery program like Pandora easy GUI? Also, sorry for going off topic, but if I remember correctly, there's no 1.5x kernel on the PSP slim (what I have). I want to use your guide to create a magic memory stick, but I'm not sure if installing 3.71 M33 firmware is what I need. I get the impression that ISO or CSO games only run on the 1.50 firmware, which is why I wanted to downgrade to that. Or do the 1.50 add ons come with the file? Cause I didn't find them.

ISO/CSO does not run off of 1.50 kernel.

The only use the 1.50 ADD ON has is for 1.50 kernel based homebrew.

Most homebrew has been ported to run on 3.XX and above kernel. So there really is no need for the 1.50 ADD ON. I included it for FAT users that want to use homebrew that is 1.50 based.

So 3.71 M33 will run ISO/CSO and Homebrew that is 3.XX and above based perfectly fine.

Alright, thank you very much. Now I just need to know if it'll work with Pandora Easy GUI, since I don't have an actual pandora's battery; after that I can fet started.

Why would you want to use it with Pandora Easy GUI?

This guide is for users that only have an Official Firmware PSP so you either Hardmod the battery to a Pandora Battery or buy a Datel Tool Battery.

If you have a custom firmware PSP then I have provided programs already that will convert a normal battery to a Pandora Battery. If you have a Custom Firmware PSP then use this guide HERE.

If you only have an Official Firmware PSP then you will need to Hardmod the battery or buy a Datel tool battery.

There is no need to use Pandora Easy GUI at all.

This guide is intended for use with Official Firmware FAT/SLIM PSP's. If you have a 1.50 FAT PSP or FAT/SLIM custom firmware PSP go HERE and use the guide to walk you through these steps.

This guide will guide you through the creation of a Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery that will install or unbrick a PSP to 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware.

In edition I have provided the following UPDATES/ADD ON files.

3.71 M33-4
1.50 ADD ON-2 for 3.71 M33

3.80 M33
3.80 M33-5
1.50 ADD ON for 3.80 M33

3.90 M33-3
1.50 ADD ON for 3.90 M33

3.95 GEN

4.01 M33
4.01 M33-2
1.50 ADD ON for 4.01 M33

===================================================================

Lets get started with the Magic Memory Stick.

Download the files linked below...

Due to the size limitations on Media Fire I have split the download file into 3 parts. You will need to download Part1, Part2 and Part3 then place all Parts in the same directory on the PC and choose Univer_File.part1 to extract. Part2 and Part3 will automatically extract with Part1 creating the complete folder.

Download Link: Part1 Part2 Part3

Mirror:
Send Space Link (1 full file): HERE

Sendspace is a free file hosting service. If you get an error when trying to download keep trying. It just means the free service bandwidth is at max and no more users can download at that time. Just keep trying to download it and it should start the download once a slot comes open).

Extract the file and go to the Easy Installer folder.

Start the Easy installer by clicking on the START Icon.

Select Language 1-3 Then press Enter.

Press any key to continue.

Type in your PSP Drive letter. Then press Enter.

Select "1. Continue To Pandora installer" Then press ENTER

Disable the USB and Format your Memory Stick via System Settings. Then enable the USB again. Then press any key to continue.

Press ENTER when it ask to insert new disc (you should already have the Memory Stick in since you just formated it).

It will scan the Memory Stick.

Type Y then ENTER when it ask if your sure you want to format.

Take out the Memory Stick and then disable the USB.

Then insert the Memory Stick and enable the USB again.

Then Press any key to continue

Select Option 4 "Universal unbricker for FAT or SLIM (This installs custom firmware 3.71 M33-2)"

Type 4 and Press ENTER

The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick.

After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.

Press any key to close the DOS box.

You are now done with the Easy Installer.

Now go to the ADD_ON folder that was included with the download above.

Drag the PSP folder and 1.50.PBP to the ROOT of the Memory Stick.

When it ask to over Write choose YES TO ALL.

You can now go to /PSP/GAME folder and delete the despertar_cementerio, pan3xx, ospbt, pandora_battery and pandora_battery% folder because they are not needed.

You are now finished with the Magic Memory Stick part of the guide.

===================================================================

This part of the guide will give you some options on getting a Pandora Battery.

The recommended option that I suggest is buying a Datel Tool battery...

You can do a Google search and find a website that offers this type of service battery.

A second option is Hardmoding the battery. This can be dangerous if not done properly. I take no responsibility if something goes wrong with this option.

I also will not reply to any questions regarding this option. I do not recommend it and have not done it myself. You will need to take the necessary steps to find this information out on your own.

I will however provide you with this guide HERE that shows how to Hardmod a FAT/SLIM Battery.

After you have made the magic memory stick and got a Datel Tool Battery/Hardmodded the Battery you can now use them to install custom firmware to a FAT/SLIM PSP.

Just place the Magic Memory Stick in the PSP and then place the Datel Tool/Hardmodded Battery into the PSP and a menu should come up. X will install 3.71 M33-2 to the PSP and O will install 3.71 official firmware to the PSP.

After it has finished installing the files you can then turn off the PSP and replace the Battery with the normal 1. If you Hardmodded the Battery you will need to unmod it to get it back to normal use.

===================================================================

Now it is time to install the UPDATES/ADD ON files.

Go to Game Menu Memory Stick and run MUX 2.0 application.

This will bring up a menu that has all the updates listed.

Choose the update by moving the X at the left up and down with the D-Pad. Then press X when you select the update you want. The Memory Stick Led will flash a few seconds (3.80 M33 and 3.90 M33 flashes a little longer) and after it stops flashing you can go to EXIT at the bottom of the list and it will exit to XMB. Now run the UPDATE via Game Menu Memory Stick.

For those wanting to go to 3.80 M33 or 3.90 M33 or 3.95 GEN just go straight to it and skip the 3.71 M33-4 update.

Those that have a FAT PSP you can also install the 1.50 ADD ON that corresponds with whatever firmware you choose to update to (3.95 has no 1.50 ADD ON at this time).

Trouble Shooting:

If you have issues after creating the MMS and Pandora Battery then read the Possible reasons below.

Vista and 64-BIT XP users may have issues running the easy installer.

Some Memory Sticks are not compatible. Do not ask if your MS is compatible do a search and find out yourself.

New SLIM PSP systems have blocked the use of Pandora Battery Creators.

Not all PSP Batteries can be converted or Hardmoded to a Tool Battery. Do not ask if your battery is compatible do a search and find out yourself.

If your still having issues then keep trying different combinations of PC systems and MS till you find a combination that works.

I have no issue with users adding this guide to another forum as long as I get credit for the creation of the guide and the authors of the applications that are used in the guide are credited as well.

It has come to my attention that a user has copied this guide and added a donation for support link to it. I don't understand how this user or anyone else gets off asking for donations on a guide they did not participate in creating or updating and had no participate in creating of any of the applications used in the guide.

This guide was intended to help others and at no time have I ever asked or accepted any type of donations for it. As well I would expect anyone that wants to add this guide to another forum follow the same guidelines.

If I find this guide or any of my other guides added to another forum and a donation link is added to it I will report the thread to a MOD and request that the guide be deleted and the member be suspended or banned.

it is true. if the slim came with 4.00 from the factory, you CANNOT get custom firmware yet. you will have to wait until DAX finds a workaround.

3.95 is questionable.

you CANNOT run the MUX updater with official firmware. you MUST HAVE custom firmware already. if you read the guide properly, you would have noticed that already.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

You need to follow the guide word for word and install 3.71 M33-2 first through the magic memory Stick + pandora Battery. After that you can then run the MUX 2.0 program.
