Man, I can pretty much guarantee that SSBB will sell more copies than Halo 3, and I will even bet on it. I really like SSBM way more than Halo 3. I guess that it is just what your taste is in games and console.

wiigame: that speculation is kind of silly, honestly. :\

Anyone who thinks that it will is silly, and doesn't know much about sales. Halo 3 is the best selling piece of entertainment in history, more than any film. So I'll agree with you there.

If you are legitimately curious about where the hype has stemmed from: the hype comes with Brawl because of its predecessors. You can't really pick up Melee and play it real quick. Melee is something you have to learn a bit to have fun with. Then it's also about the experience. If you just picked it up and played it, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as gathering with a bunch of friends with a few TVs, food, chillin', playing Smash. It's also an incredibly deep game, a lot of people play competitively (for money). I dig Halo the same way. I look forward to Halo parties as much as Smash 'till dawn sessions. I was also part of the competitive scene, as a hobbyist--as geeky as that sounds. I have other hobbies though. ;)

Famitsu grades pretty harshly, but sometimes they are silly. If I'm not mistaken, Nintendogs also received a 40/40, or near it. Defend your excitement for the game based on your opinion, it's a very subjective topic.

Thanks for backing me up. It's nice to know there are people who understands I'm not trying to bash, I'm just curious. Yeah, I forgot Nintendogs got a 40/40. Anyways Let's try to stay on the SSBB topic before we get in trouble.

blasphome!!
You mean blasphemy? Anyways have you even played the game before?
no, but everyone who has played it, like some pre-release reviewers, say its awesome. Some japanese mag gave it a 10/10 and only 7 other games got that like ocirana of time and some others
Yeah, like Final Fantasy XII? That game was horrible and it got 40/40 on Famitsu too. Also, I just wanted to say I'm not trying to be an ass. I just wanted to know what the hype was all about. That's all I asked and you guys just replied back to me like I'm a dumbass for not knowing how "good" Smash is. On another note Brawl is not going to sell more copies than Halo3. Halo is one of the best video game series out there.
Sales isn't everything, espicially since most people on this thread aren't gonna exactly "pay" for it. Halo's like the iTouch, it sells alot of units but isn't even close to a Archos 605 or Cowon Q5W in quality/performance(off subject, but good metaphor). So ya, SSBB will pwn Halo. It's all bout quality over quantity.

People are importing it. It was released in Japan on the 31st. Not many in this thread have played the final version yet. Basically people are trying to rip it to their computers so it can be distributed online and burned. To play a Japanese copy or burned copy, one needs to mod their Wii with a mod chip. Mod chips trick the disc reader into thinking it is reading a game from the proper region. So the only way someone in this topic could be playing the game is if they had a Japanese copy of Brawl at their house imported, and a Cyclowiz/D2C Wii mod chip.

Just want to let u know that best selling and game of the year baloney is all bs all the time. It all depends on some random definition of best selling that games use so they can have some kind of record. If you wanna talk about most sales...

from wikipedia:

Top 20 console games of all time

The 20 best selling console games, not originally bundled.
1. Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green (Game Boy ? 20.08 million approximately, 10.23 million in Japan,[35] 9.85 million in US)[15]
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES ? 18 million)[32]
3. Nintendogs (DS ? 17.79 million)[58]
4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2 ? 15 million,[96] may include PC and Xbox versions)
etc.

in comparison:
Halo 2: 8 million
Halo 3: 8.1 million

I wouldnt call it silly speculation. There are simply more wii's out there than there are 360's. In that situtation it dosent even matter about the qualtity of the game, just the fanbase. I dont know the exact numbers on this but I'm guessing that Pokemon diamond and pearl sold more copies than metal gear portable ops for the psp just based on the fact that theres twice as many DS's out there. Melee was THE game for the gamecube, and I have a feeling that brawl is going to be the same for the wii.

Kuromomo: The game dosent come out in the US till march, but it came out in japan on jan 31st.

Anyway, back on topic. The dumper programs. Do we know if they work? I've heard alot about them in the last few hours but havent heard definative proof if they work or not.

Mod chip? You mean you can't just burn and play games on the Wii? I thought it was just DVDs? You can buy blank DVDs in stores. I burn movies and music all the time and play it in my PS2. Can't you just burn it using Nero or something?

Ah wow, I am so sorry. I meant highest grossing on opening. I haven't slept much in two days, lots of stuff going on. I usually double check before I post, and I knew that.

Regardless--comparing any games based on reviews and sales is silly.

The Wii isn't region free, and it has better protection than the PS2. So you can only burn and play games with a mod chip physically soldered and installed on your Wii.

dont mean to be a mod or anything, but its really frustrating searching through a bunch of inapplicable discussions in a ssbb thread.

please next time read the entire thread or find another thread that better suits your questions.

and to answer your question (kuro), yes you need a modded wii to play any burnt or different region games.

Movies and music are different than a game. Have you ever tried burning a game to a blank DVD and playing it on the ps2? it wont work because the console knows that its a game burned to a DVDR and is designed to not play bootleg games. Movies and music on burned media it has no problem with. The mod chip basically tricks the console into thinking any disk is an 'offical' copy, allowing the use of bootlegs or, as they're supposed to be used, backup copies of games.

Doesn't look like it...
Hopefully we will have a dump soon. I'm not sure how long this specific software takes to rip a dvd. Time is also dependent on the person's drive. Hopefully we will have one soon. :]

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for all your info CPO. You're really helping me out. I knew that you can't play games from other regions but I didn't know that you can't play burnt games. With this mod chip thing you can play import and burnt games? That sounds interesting. Do they have mod chips for PS2? I would love to get one.

Wow well I had to catch up on about 5 pages of reading and towards the last page this thread starting to become a flame war over consoles, a spelling bee and a "do the noob have any questions" session. Lets try to keep this thread focused on the Wiikey Team and is productivity please. This is my ONLY source of info. It got a little difficult skimming through pointless off-topic post trying to find real info.

Now back on topic. I have a Wiikey in my US Wii. I bought my JP version of Brawl today from a local store. So what exactly am I waiting for? I dont need an ISO right? I already have the game. So I think I am waiting for Wiikey to make a "patch" file so I can run it on my Wii? And I'm waiting for them to make program similar to Rawdump2.0 so I can burn a copy and run WiiBrickBlocker on it. I'm new to this so Im jut guessing but I think Im right.

Oh and thank you to the people who have posted here with the useful information.

And the person that posts with that little puppy. Its so cute :) but why is it dead?

I'm not trying to be a ?noob? or whatever that is. I've just never been exposed to this "modding" scene before. I'm just a casual gamer that maybe picks up a controller with my little brother on the weekends. I?ve just recently been really interested in video games because of all of the hype with the new consoles; especially the Wii. I'm sorry that I buy my games and not steal it. By the way what's so great about the Japanese version of the Brawl? Why can't you guys just wait for the US copy? It's only a month away before it's released. Couldn't you just then play the US Brawl on your US Wii without a mod chip? Especially when you can't even burn the game anyways. If you gonna have to buy the game why not just wait for the US one.

Yea ur pretty much right. All you need is an update that will allow you the wiikey to recognize dual layer disc which SSBB happens to be.
A dumper software has already been made. We're also waiting for the results on that too.

@Joskun: you're a bit off. He doesn't need to do all the ripping to his computer and use BrickBlocker. Brawl doesn't brick the Wii.

@Kuro in regards to getting it early: if you are a casual gamer, you really wouldn't understand. I don't play games all that much really, but I LOVE Smash. If you've ever anticipated anything, you'd understand. Getting the Japanese version is indeed all about playing it early. But you don't understand, you aren't part of the fanbase. Just don't worry about it, wait for the Eng version if you want to play, it's not worth the trouble if you aren't hardcore about it. It's hard to say this nicely: but just leave this topic, because this is what it's all about. This topic really just isn't for you. :\ And no one tries to be a noob, it just comes naturally. At least you can spell though, right? *plenty of noobs talk liek <<-this*

You don't have to run WiiBrickBlocker. All you need is the Wiikey team's firmware update to be posted that allows Smash to be played. Also, don't use this topic as your "source." Check this page:
http://psx-scene.com/wii/portal.php
It's currently the official page where they will announce the firmware update to Wiikey.

Well I know, the update shouldn't even change the firmware so no bricking. Forgot to mention it and why.
I mention about the dumper in case needed for a back up. thx for the correction.
