I'm assuming you haven't played the JAP version yet. In that case you will either have to update (giving dual channels) or do the 15% trick (google it or look through this thread, it has been posted tons of times and I don't want to waste my time).

The worst that will happen is you get dual channels or won't be able to get into your settings on your wii, however, I have heard that the US version will fix this "semi-brick".

I already updated my wii from the internet, is this the same update as the US DL Brawl? if so if my wii becomes semi bricked will it fix fromthe us update or will it not even update due to me downloading the firmware already?

I have a LG GDR-8164B drive, an Original copy of SSMB, and a back-up copy of SSMB Jap (DV9). When i try to dump the game with Friidump 0.4.0 using the comand friidump -d :f -a i get the following error:

"Initializing DVD Drive... Failed"

Fails with both the Jap Copy and the Original US Brawl

I've used the drive before to dump regular wii discs with rawdump so im not sure why its not working with SSMB. Any ideas how to fix this?

Is your GDR 8164 drive the F drive on your computer?? If not, then you need to put the correct drive there.. If your gdr8164 is g: then put g instead of f. Make sense??

-d f: -a

-d g: -a

-d e: -a

Yes F is the right drive for my LG drive, everything is correct but somehow i get that error.

Just tried to dump super paper mario US original but it failed just like SSMB. It can my Warcraft III disc so the drive works.

IMG BURN to burn the game at 2.4x

Well I used FriiDump 4 this morning to rip the game.
Woke up varified the byte size/file size which matched.
From there I loaded up IMG BURN, bought 3 Memorex DVD+R DL, popped one in, left the settings on default and burned the image at 2.4x

When I pop the disc into my Wii all I get is the white screen with Unable to read disc. All my backups are still read, the original SSBB just makes a clicking sound then stops.

I've been following this thread all day. I am planning to get memorex DL dvd+R. Quick question, do I have to burn the iso with a special DL dvd drive or can I just use any writer?

Tried with 0.4.0 first with no luck. Tried with 0.3.0 and Super Paper Mario US no luck. Rawdump 2.0 with Paper Mario US works, so i have no idea why friidump doesnt work in my PC.

Did you update at all when you inserted the backup or had you already updated. I updated online before loading the game. Not sure if that helps. Try reburning at a different speed. Maybe 4x

I updated yesturday to 3.2U
I burned it twice, I have one more disc left

Is it recommended to burn at 4.0x becuase the memorex disc speed is set for 2.4x

@mo2u
You can use any dvd writer to burn the iso. It's ripping the disc that needs the LG drives.
I'd also suggest updating the firmware on the dvd writer if it's not up to date.

You need any burner that will burn DL media.

Nevermind Im a freaking retard, i wrote friidump -d :f -a instead of -d f: -a... its been a while since the last time i used DOS. Dumping SSMB right now, its gonna take at least 7 hours according to the ETA at 1.2 MB/h

Huge dumb noobish question but...

On my burner, it shows some little pictures. And one has "RW" and then written under it is DVD R+ DL . I am guessing my burner will burn dual layers, eh?

Ok I ripped the copy I bought on a Samsung SH-S162L and friidump 0.4.0 . It ripped and has the 8,511,160,320 size. If it wasn't done with a LG drive, is there a chance it didn't work right?

I burned twice at 2.4x on 2.4x max speed Memorex +R DL (riteks). Once with Nero and once with Img Burn 2.4.0.0. They both get the same read error that my retail copy gets.

I tried booting up other games and they all work. I have a japanese copy on DL that I burned with Nero that works.

Any ideas?
