I believe you need a special drive mention in another thread here to rip the game. but burning the image would work on any dvd writer that can write DLs. the one i got is SH-183L, just google it.

the legit version doesnt work because something is bugged about wiikey so only a backup version works.

hush: have you burned any other wii dl games? like the japanese version of brawl? if it's the same thing for JP version then it's something wrong with your wii, could be anything from not updated wiikey to something i dont know much about. normal backups work on your wii right?

Does anyone know the answer to his question? I am having the same problem as well. That is assuming this "layer-break" setting is our problem to begin with.

I'd also like to add that after several reboots of my Wii, I got an error message something like "illegal device detected". This could be a pretty major issue and the beginning of a new security problem.

I am currently attempting to burn that version, because that is the version that I purchased. There is nothing wrong with the Wii; it loads all other games and backups flawlessly. It is just this single game. I almost feel like the iso must be corrupted somehow, or something, because this is just not working at all. I'm so sick of it I don't even care so much about playing the game anymore, I just want to get the blasted thing to load.

Any ideas would be most welcome. I just seriously do not know what to do, and I'm beside myself with anger at the absolute ridiculousness of this. As usual, everyone else has comparatively fewer frustrations with something like this, yet of course it doesn't work for me...

Also, will this burn out the DVD drive since it is burning for 6 hours straight?

MODS: post where you feel it is necessary..

You can only dump/rip the game with the "LG Drives". Use any burner to burn the game.

Here are the steps you need to backup your original version of USA Brawl.

Download the following programs:

Friidump v 0.4.0.0 to dump the ISO (Find it on the "How to use friidump" thread on AD)
&
IMG BURN

Save the friidump folder on you C: in program files.
Insert your SSBB original into your "LG" drive.
Click on "START" for windows
Click on run
Type: cmd
Then click: OK
Type: cd..
Hit enter
Keep typing cd.. until you only see c:\> in dos
Now type: cd program files
Hit enter
Type: cd friidump
Hit enter
Type: friidump -d f: -a
(NOTE: f: is for my "LG" drive. Go to my computer and find out where you drive is located and put the corresponding letter there. For example, if your LG drive is the e drive then type -d e: -a, g drive would be friidump -d g:-a)
hit enter and the dump should start.

Once it is complete (about 6hrs or more) go to my computers. Click c: and click on program files. Find your friidump file, open it and you will find you BRAWL iso. Check it to make sure the Bytes are the correct size. Right click the file, then click properties. It should be 8,511,160,320
Now open IMG BURN and click on mode, write, select the Brawl file from the C: in the program file called friidump. Put in a DL disk a burner that will burn DL disk. Click Burn..

On my first try I used Verbatim DVD+R DL at 1x and it did not load properly. I reburned with a MEMOREX DVD+R DL at 2.4X and it worked perfect. I also updated ONLINE before loading the game but I don't think that really makes a difference.

To make a layer break in the iso: go to TOOLS, SETTINGS, WRITE. On options LAYER BREAK for DL media (top right) select USER SPECIFIED and enter 2084960. Click ok and then burn. (THIS SHOULD WORK FOR THOSE THAT HAVE download THE GAME and want to break the layers OR FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO DO THE 15% SWAP TRICK. It is not necessary to break the layers for USA WII with WIIKEY - DVD9 works fine.)

Hope I didn't miss anything, edit if I did..
If you get an error, I suggest burning again with either different media or speed. If that doesn't work. Shut it down, reboot and retry the dump, then reburn.
CHEERS!!

It has been explained at least 3 times by me and others so read past post instead of asking over and over again. Learn to read!

Do you have to layer break the disk or can you just leave it?

No one seems to know. A few of us have had problems with burned copies but we don't know that it has anything to do with a layer break. A few people have stated that they did not have to.

NO LAYER BREAK..
It is NOT NEEDED UNLESS the USA VERSION of brawl is out of your region and you want to do the 15% swap trick.

using layer break might or might not work, it seems. cause for SSBB jp version it works. but when i try it with the USA version it doesnt work.

you need to use imgburn and put in 2084960 in layer break if you want to try layer break

I just finish burning! I did not do a layer break! U used Verbatim DVD+R DL, I used Imgburn 2.3.2.0, with burn speed set to Auto as I always do. My PC is HP Media Center! Wii version 3.2!

Ok I tried it but have no idea why it doesnt work. Tried layer breaking too and get the same error. Have usa wii with wiikey burnt the wiizard ssbb iso onto a Verbatim DL disc at 4X as this was the lowest it would record it.
Burnt, installed the update from the disc, run the game, saved a new file onto my wii, but then just get a white screen after the now loading message and it says unable to read disc. I can hear it stop spinning. Have no idea why this is happening as its a backup of ssbb and it should work. Everything else works fine.

backups can play online but from what my friend told me it is jammed with people trying to get on so dont bother with online play for few days.

i guess people should try no layer break since cecy's backup works.
