For those having problems with the game burning at 2.4 - maybe you should try 4x instead... Successful burns are often trial and error and whilst it's generally accepted that 2.4 is usually best for DL I have read of someone having success at 4x. Ppl have different burners and that can be a factor. (If you are burning on single layer then 4x is usually the best speed as well).

What media have you tried? If you're using Memorex go out and buy a pack of Verbatim or vise versa; if you have Verbatim go try some Memorex -- that solved my issues.

@EVERYONE :)

Although yesterday when I tried to play the game I got a DRE (before it even booted). I removed the disc and reinserted it then it worked... anyone else have that issue from time to time?

djmyles you burned at 1x on clone dvd - try imgburn at 2.4 using like MOST other ppl or if that don't work try 4x. You should try reading thru this thread as well cos ppl are posting their successful burns as well as solutions for unsuccessful ones.

okay PAL wii

Wiikey 1.9g
3.2e

i burnt the game, (appears to be succesful)
vebatim, at 2.4 speed, no problems.
i have the wiizard release.
currently NOT brick blocked or region free'd
it asks me to install an update.
and the warning when updating sais
"cuation, if you have any illegal modifactions it may damage.."
etc.
very scary. :(
so, should i update, what would happen?
best solution so far?
will brick blocker work?
ive read the past 30 something pages, and no luck :(
currently strapped for cash,
stupid expensive dual layer dvds :(

If you had really read 30 pages back you'd have seen my post saying that BrickBlocker v1.32(Dual Layer Version) works fine on this and removes the update for PAL users. Throw your disc away, burn it again BrickBlocked and play that, don't risk installing an update from a region other than your own EVER! Good luck. :-)

skillz905 - running the update will result in duplicate channels (which can be moved out of sight but not deleted) which don't affect the Wii's functions - i.e. everything should work. It should not brick your Wii BUT it's still at your own risk. You can try the 15% trick to avoid dupe channels.

There a PPF out as well (dunno if it's kosher) and the new brickblocker mentioned by the previous poster.

@noucamp99
ty for the quick reply and good info :)
i had my doubts cause ive been reading around and every second person sais something differant.
ill buy another disk tomoz and let you guys know the results :)

@JuniR

i thought that was all that happened, the dupe channels dont really bother me, but i read somewhere else apparently it mucks with ur wii's internet settings didnt wanna risk it cause of that

Ultimately -
Ill try the Brick blocker,
failing that, ill just update.

either way, ill keep u posted :)
ty again guys.

I am sorry if this is repetitive but I am very confused. I thought the wiikey did not support DL disks. Do I just have to update to 3.2U?

How would I rip the game? Just use wiidump?

Duff - the wiikey does support DL backups - just won't run the Original. As far as the rest of your query is concerned you'll have to read through the thread - I've seen that ppl have done it so it's there just I ain't gonna rip so I pay no attention :)

Thanks binkie7..but that didn't work either. I think I just might be screwed here. So many people have had this same issue where the recovery disc doesn't work. I've tried everything I can think of...but I still can't play play back-ups anymore.

Confirmed working - first try

Wii: US Wii bought early 2007
Software: ImgeBurn 2.4.0.0
Speed: 2x
Layerbreak: Auto (no manual set)
Media Used: Verbatim DVD+R DL
Mod Chip: Wiikey Firmware 1.9g
Wii Firmware: 3.2U (updated via internet)
ISO Used: WiiZard NTSC-U

One suggestion for those who can't seem to get it to run. Make sure your DVD-burner firmware is up-to-date. I used to have problems making backups of 360 games and thought it was my old (now 3 years) NEC burner. Once I updated with the latest and greatest NEC firmware for my drive, I have NEVER had a bad burn. Goodluck.

I messed it up !
can't recover even.

I have D2B 1.9g with 3.1u , and I use 1.9b to upgrage and took the power at 70% .

I can see the first title page of original brawl disk and then it's loading ... loadinng.....
never been able to play the original disk .

Now I tried to recover the wiikey with 1.9b padded version , use imgburn on a Ridata dvd-r at 4x .

I followed the instruction ,
1. put the disk in ,
2. reset ,
3. wait 3-5 minutes ,
4. power off ,
5. power on , put a backup up in , wii can't read the disk .

It looks like , wii is trying to read the recover disk at all , no spinning sound , no movement .

HELP !
maybe the wiikey is corruptted , that would cost me another $60 !

@martinluo

I had a similar problem with mine after using that trick...

The way I fixed it was using the NONPADDED 1.9b recovery disk, just burn it to a DVD-R as it is. Put it in the Wii, let it sit for 10 minutes and do a hard reset (press and hold the reset button until it turns RED). Reboot and the recovery disk will show up as a Gamecube game in the channel. This means it worked.

Hope that helps!

Every DVD reader is a little different, even though they may be the same brand/model. At least yours likes the cheap stuff; mines a little princess :p

Absolutely right - same with burners as well. One burner may work better with a certain type of media. The most frustrating thing I read about disks is that ppl think, "if this works then this should," and even assume that disks will always be read - a common occurence is that whole batches become unreadable after some upgrade or change. It's not a cut and dried "exact science." It is still, and will be for some time, trial and error.

alright as odd as it sounds, its working for every single part of the game for now, it'll probably fail later.

1st try: burned but had the white screen after it tried to load
3.2U
1.9g wiikey
TDK DVD+R DL
2.4x with imgburn
layer break manually set

2nd try: burn failed at 94% but loaded and worked!
3.2U
1.9g wiikey
TDK DVD+R DL
2.4x with imgburn
layer set automatically

basically, just because the burn doesn't finish doesn't mean that the game, won't work. so try it before throwing it away...

Hello! Here is my situation: (sorry, if this is already said.)

I have a Jap Wii with an unknown modchip. It's already semi-brick (can't access the setting screen) but didn't bother me much. I updated my wii with usa SMG and can't play it because i don't know what modchip it is so i don't know where to find its update.

If i put in the Jap version of ssbb, do i need to do the 15% trick? or will it fix my semi-brick wii? what exactly should i do? please help!

so just to confirm something. after reading this post:

I realized i have the same issue I think. Backed it up using nero at 2,4x. Burned fine and when I put it in to play it froze at the intro screen (white) after it asks if it can save information.

I assume its the media i used. I only had a (dont shoot me =) ) fujifilm DVD+R DL RW laying around.
