somehow even if you run first the japanese smash bros update and try playing the american one later your wii settings will become inaccecible, i wanted to see if i could play my brother's original SSBB which is american on my japanese wii and this happened, now i cant access the settings until a higher japanese update firmware becomes avaliable (on cd).

PD: if anyone knows how to (if its possible) update to the 3.2 Version without using a game (like i got a message from my wii 24 japan that i could update to 3.2 but deleted it) or maybe using the chanels, id be very happy if u could tell me thanks.

@binkie

thanks for the DVD5 link. It took me forever to realize I needed 1.0a instead of 1.0 before finding the key.

When I put the disc in it said initializing wii system update, so I unplugged it, not knowing if I should allow this update? should I?

Would it make a difference if I accidentally used a pal version instead of NTSC for a NTSC-U wii?

thanks

Here's one more success story from a PAL user

I have a PAL wii with a wiikey, 3.2E firmware and 1.9g
chip update, and also tried a second wii with the exact
same configuration.

I downloaded the emcubed rip, burned 2 copies to TDK +R
media, one using nero, the other imgburn with layerbreak set,
and neither worked, they both yielded the same result on both
wiis-white screen followed by error.

I feel I should point out that the fist console lives in a
smoke-free environment, the second does not.

I proceeded to waste a 5pk of TDK discs on different programs, settings etc. all yielding that same error result.

So i went out and bought two Verbatim +R's and burn again,
one with nero and one with imgburn, layerbreak set. Works
like a charm, only problem is the second wii, that does not
live in a smoke free zone, pops up error messages constantly
and struggles to read either disc...

Gonna clean the laser later and try again. Either way, if you
on pal let your wii update to 3.2, let the game update give
you dual channels, the only problem you will have is
either a. a dirty laser head, or b. bad media

Hey my2cent, i had several different load problems, i live in aus (so PAL obviously) and had black screens white screens etc. burning it with different disc brands can help, and opening the wii and cleaning the laser, also, try updating your wii to latest nintendo update via internet and then burning a copy without brickblock and letting it do the disc update, just make sure you get the latest nintendo update first to avoid bricking

If you are burning with imgburn as commonly advised then the read error is down to media and/or burner.

Also in stating your problem you should post as much detail as possible. eg. the type of media, burn speed etc.

Dude I burned three TDK discs and none worked, i burned two Verbatims and both worked perfectly, the game has to be updated to work, so you can't have brickblock on it

As I previously mentioned in this post (page 106!), I was fortunate enough not to have any trouble at all at backing up SSBB, getting it to update the wii firmware and then work with no crashes. (My son played for an hour with his friend, ate, and then they played for another hour and a half. I'm so proud.) My question is about the update. Although I had updated my Wiikey to 1.9g for SMG, I never updated the Wii firmware before playing this game, and had read one post that said he didn't update the wii before updating with the game either. I had read that the new update, assuming you can update your wii using an internet connection, was 3.2. Why, then, is the SSBB update 3.1u (I would think maybe 3.3 or something)? I've had no problems, so should I not bother with the 3.2 update? If I updated, would SSBB just update again anyway? Would anyone assume the 3.2 update contains anything the 3.1 update does not?

3.2 was released after mastering of SSBB @ 3.1.

3.2 is not necessary for the playing of SSBB

The info that comes with 3.2 is:

"This update does not affect any prominently-used features or menus; however it does provide some behind the scenes updates that will improve system performance"

Firmwares can not be overwritten by lower firmwares so 3.1 can not overwrite 3.2 and brawl will not downgrade the firmware if the console is at 3.2

There is no known reason not to go to 3.2 as it, at the very least, helps avoid bricking with out of region games.

I have 3.2(E) and no problems with any backup on wiikey 1.9g

Are you saying you tried to set it manually? If so, have you tried it without? Also DVD+R DL is what the vast majority are using to burn the game as it's rare to see DVD-R DL generally.

i have a pal wii 3.2e, d2ckey.
tried without layer break and i get white screen... so i read that for d2c, layer break needs to be set manually...
strange, here in croatia they sell dvd-r dl everywhere, dvd+r dl is rare

In that case I don't know what can be done regarding setting the layer break on your media and can only suggest you go for the other disks. Maybe someone else has an idea...

it is a problem with the media. iirc, DVD-R DL has a hard layer break already set. ie. it HAS to have one and is always in the same place. DVD+R DL media allows you to manually set the layer break if you so choose.

MY DIARY OF EPIC FAILURE

Dear diary,

For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. I bet it is a cool game.

I am aware of the possibility that updating to 3.2u could brick my USA Wii with a wiikey in it, so I made sure that I sifted through 2000 posts in various forums to make sure that there was nothing that I had to do to prevent a brick. I did all of the updates with no fear. However, I am still not playing SSBB.

On the bright side I have a very nice collection of ISOs and strange apps and hacks for SSBB ISO editing. In fact, I believe that I have every known USA and fake PAL version of SSBB in existence. I have the DL versions and I have the 4.7 GB versions before and after being altered.

I also have a very nice collection of DVD coasters. I have Taiyo Yudens (4.7), Memorex (DL) and Verbatim (DL and Singapore not India). I have so many that I could be a real life ninja boy when I grow up.

However, I suspect that whitey may be trying to keep me down. None of my ninja stars play SSBB. Instead, they give me any one of 3 errors or just don't read at all from the main Wii screen.

My problems are either a bad burner or bad media. I know that the Verbatims I bought are bad. Even movies don't work. Bad batch. I'm taking them back to Best Buy tonight.

I question if it is my burner. No errors. I have burned tons of various things with less problems than any other burner I have ever owned.

My only fear is that the Wiikey team sold us thousands upon thousands of mod chips, made a couple of updates and bailed on us.

*Sigh*
Hope fully someone will reply this time.. I burned a few discs and the last one I burned seemed to work for a while, but now I get an error message after I click Start.

MOD Chip: WiiKey 1.9G+B
Region: NTSC-U
Firmware: 3.2U

3rd Try: Semi-Success
Media: Memorex DVD+R DL
Layer Break: Yes
Write Speed: 2.4X

So what should I do? Would rewriting at 1X or 2X help?

If you create the .iso DON'T change any settings from install. It should work.
