go verbatim dvd+r DL. high quality stuff. eventhough i don't burn wii games (yet), i only use verbatims. they've never failed me.

never go with the cheap stuff; they WILL kill your laser quicker due to low quality dye.

Well, I can't get it to work.

When I burnt it with no layer break set, it detects the game in the drive. I'm able to start it, it gets to the initial loading screen then goes to a all white screen. and my Wii is in somewhat of a frozen state. It won't reset via the Wiimote or the Reset button. I have to hold down the power button for it to reset.

So I think I'm just going to disable my Wiikey, and try my purchased copy.

Ok, i've read through countless pages and can't figure it out.

I have a D2CKEY wii with 3.2U installed. I have a working copy Brawl that works on a friend's wiikey but does not work on my D2CKEY one as it will load past the hand strap warning then it just goes blank with nothing on it. Any help please!

Ah - that's a little different then lol.

ahem... Nintendo are saying that some drives are not coping with SSBB/DL and asking ppl to send in their Wiis for "cleaning". That's the worst case scenario. The only way to test is to try a bona fide original cos you know that backup works.

What can you do wrong? Your machine is up to date and the chip is what it is.

The image can be burnt on different media at different speeds on different burners with or without the layer break. That's all the options covered so only the original can tell you if your Wii can run SSBB for a start and if so it's a case of trial and error with the different options until you find a compatible solution for your console.

Edit - actually you can ignore Nintendo's advice and get a lens cleaner. I have read of at least one person being successful and it prompted others to try. Of course it's at your own risk and cos I'm telling you I read it doesn't mean it's fact and it actually can work.

Actually If you go back through this thread a bit there's a post about adjusting a resistor. I dunno how successful it is or even if it's advisable but I'd prolly be up for it if I was having probs.

ugh out of my 3 disc's I have 1 disc that works initially. I can play training, "classic", I haven't tried multiplayer

but the adventure mode, or subspace whatever it's called always produces a "unable to read disc" during the cutscenes...GRRRRRRRR

Just letting you know guys, two weeks ago, I wasted 4 verbatim dvd+r DL! It's not really wasted, all of them worked but had to skip cut scenes to avoid the freezing with reading error message! During that time, Best Buy had a special sale on a 25 pack memorex Dvd+r DL for 19$ so I bought it and tried it. All it take is one disc to burn the game successfully without any error nor freezing messages, I burnt it without any layerbreak and write speed set to Auto!

I might be misunderstanding your question but I don't think there is a pal version of this game out yet.
I'm guessing you have the NTSC version. Make sure the Wii is up to date on the firmware - 3.2U. If it's the NTSC the update should be fine.
I think I have 3.1u, since my SMG backup works. I'm a little confused on how to update the firmware. Is the 3.2u firmware update on the DVD5 ssbb? or must I update from the internet?

I haven't had time to connect my wii to the internet, so I don't want to do an internet update if I don't have to.

What is the ssbb dvd5 trying to update then? would this be ok to allow it on a d2ckey 3.1u ntsc?

I'm going out of town til Thurs. Thanks ahead of time. I'll check it out based on your advice when i come back to town.

Hey, I have read through everything here and I cannot find the answer to my problem.

I have a downloaded SSBB NTSC (USA) iso burned onto a Verbatim DL disc. 1st Gen Wii with Wiikey 1.9g, and 3.2U update. When I boot to the dash, I see the Brawl logo on the Disc Channel. But when I click Start, the screen turns black and I cannot do anything. What did I do wrong?

I burned it normal DVD9 without setting the layer break. I was never asked to do the update since I did it online before inserting the disc into the system. I did run WiiBrickBlocker on my ISO and patched it. Could that make a difference?

Do not run wiibrickblocker. It's not needed.

Not only that, but SSBB has a small update on it that I believe has to do with being able to read DL discs. Therefore, you need a non-brickblocked copy so that you can get that update.

Do the update from the Wii over the internet. The update 'improves system performance' - but what all that means performance wise I couldn't really say.
If you do get the asking to update with the game you shoild be fine - same region and it's for the Wii itself.

i have donwloaded and burned 2 different torrents of SMG, and neither work on my wii. My other backups work, but this one still doesnt for some reason. Can anyone please help me on why this is not working and how i can get the game to work. thanks!!

So,....i have a wiikey with 1.9G firmware, and a 3.2U wii....when i put in my SSBB (which is the scrubbed version i found on a torrent site) it asks for the update....do i do it??? or will i brick my wii?

Thanks again..i really appreciate it!!

By the way...when i says scrubbed, its the one where the uploader to the torrent only put the 1 layer of the dvd on, so its just 4.5 gigs or whatever

Also: my wii is NTSC...but when you look at that torrent, it says something that it is "NTSC to PAL", so is this a PAL version, and does that mean im updating my wii from anotehr region and i will brick it?? or is it a NTSC version which was changed to PAL??
thanks again!!

You can't undo it afaik but in any case you should have backed up your download and keep it untouched until you are certain you no longer need it.

Brickblocking is irreversible. Therefore, if you did not make a back up copy of the original, you will need to re-download.
