If you have D2C Wii it has to be one of 3... D2CKey, D2Pro or Argon. That latter 2 came later and weren't as common as the first one 2 months ago. If you don't know any info - i.e. from the fitter, have no reciept or documentation then the only way is to open and compare it with pics of the chips I've given. D2CKey is easy to spot cos it's a 31 wire install. Updating? See the appropriate manufacturers website.

For those interested...
I have a d2c wii (3.2) with the D2Pro installed. D2Pro did not read SSBB Original at first, but read the backup without a problem. I tried to run through the mini movie etc from the original and then got the white screen with the green writing: unable to read disc blah blah blah. I reset the game and watched all the videos, credits etc letting the game load itself instead of rushing to play it and then the original game played fine.

This is what I do with every burn of every game. First run let the game run until there's nothing else to do but press a button. It's actually a more thorough test that way and I feel more confident of the burn if everything works from start to finish.

Hi. I have a PAL wii with a D2CKey. Just burned a NTSC DL version of Super Smash Bros onto a DVD+R DL disc, using ImgBrn with no problems. Used Freeloader first, then input the game disc. Loaded as though it was working fine, even get that wii-controller-safety screen come up. Then the screen goes "snowy". I have heard this game can be patched. What can I patch it with? Regionfrii patch to PAL doesn't work either. Any other ideas or something I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

There's a NTSC to PAL ppf available. I found it on some torrent site.

I have a wiikey and the game runs fine either patched or unpatched. There's no need for freeloader. I'm assuming your D2CKey must have region override disabled if it won't run the game straight off without freeloader.

anyone with a surplus of blank Verbatim DVD+R DL disks wanna trade for my Memorex or TDK DVD+R DL disks? I've burned the game like 7 times and each one has been a coaster. I'll trade 4 blank TDK or Memorex Disks DVD+R DL disks for 2 Verbatims DVD+R DL disks

Ok VCi15 - let's not turn the thread in a trading thread.
If you really want to try trading discs - try aD's market place.
Though exchanging Verbs for Memorex will probably get some laughs. Most outside of this thread don't go near Memerox and even TDK.

Omg these discs are so expensive!

Cost me twenty for a five pack

I enjoy going down to the store, and spending money on blank dvds.

There's a lot of great info in this thread. Too bad the OP hasn't kept the front page updated. Nothing for D2C people. But stuff for unlocking characters...what a joke. If they don't allow other threads on this game, then maybe they should do some house keeping with this one.

@freddyman
It's not the op who has been updating the 1st page - the mods have.

Most problems have all involved the Wiikey - not being able to play a dual layer original. Seems to be the only chip with this problem.

Other chip problems that I've mostly seen could be chalked up to media/firmware/burner type errors playing a back up. Different variables that go along w/ any burning - esp. dual layer.

I have a UK pal wii 3.1e with a d2ckey modchip. I put in a original usa version of ssbb but doesnt read. FAILED to read
I put in back-up MLB 2k8 ntse gave me option to update which i did.
received dual weather channels etc. WORKED
is my modchip not fully installed to allow region bypass or does this game fall into the 30% of games that dont work?
the only way it will work is that i use freeloader.
any ideas??

SSBB should work on any machine with a D2CKey in as long as region override is enabled and that seems to be the case with you. However, Nintendo say there are some Wiis that need to have the lens cleaned in order to read the Dual Layer disk.

Well this is one wierd game as far as running is concerned.

I have a PAL Wii and the backup game ran fine on my wiikey apart from random lockups when playing as Mario. Others had recreatable lockups with Mario and Squirtle (water attack). Anyway, yesterday somebody posted that switching to 60Hz screen display gets rid of the water attack lockup. So just for the sake of it I tried that with mine - (I had assumed the image was corrupt and was grabbing another copy in the meantime). When I tried to run the backup like that it wouldn't load and I had to reset my Wii. So then I tried a freeloader with the display still at 60Hz. The game ran flawlessly with no more Random lockups and also the display was more optimised to my TV - it was slightly cut off at the bottom before.

I expect the PAL version, when released, to run perfectly but for now I'm playing the game at 60Hz with freeloader to get it like that. Oh and region override is on as well. The NTSC game runs without freeloader and at 50Hz but is better with freeloader at 60Hz.

Hey all,

I am new to this community, so if I am posting this in the wrong place, you have my apologies.

I have a modded Wii with a d2pro chip installed. Will there be a problem playing SSBB and installing the update that comes with it? And in fact, are there any updates in general (to any game) that I should avoid?

Thanks!!

There are some jumpers on the D2CKey... "To enter region free compatibility, you will need to close the jumper(s) JP1 and/or JP2 on the D2CKey to match the region of your Wii. If you do not close JP1 or JP2, there will be no region override. Closing JP2 will patch PAL. Closing JP1 will patch USA (NTSC) and if both JP1 and JP2 are closed, this will patch Japan (NTSC)."

Make sure the Wii is fully updated (currently 3.2). Make sure the D2Pro is fully updated. You should be ok then.

SSBB does have an update which is needed to play as well as 3.1 firmware. The game update is ok but the firmware will cause you problems if your Wii is not the same region as the game and not ALREADY updated as I have told you to do.

Many other games have firmware updates and if they are higher than the one you have in your Wii and the game is out of region they are dangerous and should not be taken.

ALWAYS STAY UPDATED VIA THE INTERNET IF POSSIBLE. You are generally safe to try any game if you are fully updated.

Also in future if you have queries post full info, including your Wii firmware and modchip firmware version (as well as full details of any media/burning process when you have problems with backups if necessary). That way ppl can give you info specific to you.

So, whats the best way to get it working perfectly?

Nero or IMGburn?
Layerbreak or none?
Verbatim, Memorex, Sony or TDK?

Help would be much appreciated.

something like this...

Looks to me like it's set to region override on - i.e. you should be able to play NTSC games on your PAL machine. Not all are compatible though and some still need freeloader or patching. SSBB isn't cut & dried m8... So many ppl with so many different results.
