I have a duo core 2.4 ghz with 4 gig ram. Any estimate for my specs? It will definitely be worth the wait if this works. I have spent countless hours and probably 100 wasted DVDs trying to get a system that works. I am ready to do this right; finally.

The more I think about it, it is pretty amazing that any programs can compress up to 8.5 gb down to 4.7 gb and still maintain about 97% of the original quality.

I'm no pro... but have had issues with pixelation & freezing.. it was the DVD player! Seems some players work alot better than others. I tried an expensive one (vcr & dvd recorder)that wouldn't play hardly any home-made dvd's; swapped it for a regular cheapy dvd player, which played all my home-made dvd's. Have heard of others also that found their dvd players to be the problem. Just food for thought.

I personally did try a variety of DVD players during my trouble shooting as well. I tried my regular DVD player, bought a new one, tried a family members one, and even my Dell player and all had issues. Interestingly enough though is it appeared my burner played those DVDs fine. That is why I felt the compression process was not the issue. However, at this point my intuition is still telling me that Shrink was to blame. With all of this being said, I could have just had a bad group of DVD players to test and all, but I also want discs that will have better odds of working than that.

If the only thing I ever want to do is burn the entire DVD onto single layer discs, will I need Pro DVD Rebuilder or just the regular free version?

This next question is extremely embarrassing but getting an answer soon will help me to move this process along.
I downloaded the zip file and extracted all to a regular folder. Now when I click on the exe file it just opens the program. However, following the tutorial, I want it to start up the set up wizard instead. What do I need to do to get that wizard going?

I know it was mentioned previously that DVD RB can take a dual layer disc and compress it to single layer while losing barely any quality. With this being said, is it safe to copy everything including subtitles and other languages without losing any noticeable quality or is it highly encouraged to get rid of this items rarely/never used?

I personally have DVD-RB setup to ignore unneeded languages/subtitles, and especially to ignore DTS soundtrack.

OK, those settings are now changed.
For DVD RB I kept everything default except the following:
1) Options/HC Encoder Options - Best (from normal)
2) Remove all languages and subtitles except for English (DTS removal is already set on default so that was kept as well)
For DVDFab and IMGBurn installs, do I keep everything on default, or which settings should I tweak for the purposes of working with DVD RB?

I use DVDFab to rip, for movies i just use main movie mode, and for tv episodic discs etc, i just do full disc mode; then in DVD-RB i just use the corresponding mode ie main movie of full disc mode. Easy really :)

steps
1. rip the title with dvdfab decrypter (doing the movie only is the way to go)
2. encode with DVD Rebuilder
3. burn with imgburn
yes you can keep everything on default
remember to use good media like Taiyo Yuden ,Verbatim oe Sony burning at 6x to 8x max!!

OK, I will use movie only for movies and then full disc for episode discs. I am assuming since you suggest movie only that keeping extras will decrease the video quality more than it is worth to keep the extras.
I am planning to burn at 8X with my Verbatim media.
Thanks guys, you are great!

OK, so far ripped Little Miss Sunshine in 4 1/2 minutes (movie only). Entire disc would have been 99% and movie only 100% but I will just do movie only I guess.
Now with DVD RB, I pointed to target but now I have a question about the audio streams. How do I know which one to keep?
Audio 1 6 ch, AC3 English
Audio 3 2 ch, AC3 English
Audio 4 2 ch, AC3 English
Also, since in my settings I noted no other languages or subtitles, I was surprised to see Spanish in lang (audio 2) and also subtitles are checked.

Hmm, I just put in Southpark DVD and am ripping as a full disc, and DVDfab says it is 69%. Do I disregard that percent because DVD RB "fixes" this?

pick the 6 channel audio
you won't need DVD Rebuilder for every movie
if you rip the movie with dvdfab and it at 4.7 gig or below your good to go with dvd shrink.
you will ONLY need DVD Rebuilder on high compressed files. if dvdfab decrypter says the compression is 70% to 65% or worse then use DVD Rebuilder

Is the only con of using DVD RB the time needed to complete the process? If so, I will just take more time than risk Shrink messing up more DVDs. However, if a DVD is 100% after ripping with DVDFab, can I just burn with IMGBurn right away or do I still need DVD RB first?

Hmmmm, I think I am doing this wrong. After ripping with DVDFab, the movie files are compressed down to 4.18 gb already. Shouldnt they be the original size until I use DVD RB?

are you using dvdfab derypter or dvdfab gold/platinum ?
if using dvdfab platinum make sure you have it set to rip in dvd-9 mode
