No problem, but to appreciate DVD-RB it's better that you try it to see the results first-hand; i personally only use DVD Shrink nowadays if there's 90%+ video compression ie i'd lose 10%, anything else goes into DVD-RB. In fact i very rarely use Shrink anymore, bless it.

It will be another 40 hours or so before my batch is done and then I will burn and watch some of the finished product. Even though this DVD project started off rough for the first few months, I am happy now. I am so glad I found your forum before I burned many more DVDs. I am pretty confident my issues will be resolved with the change in these programs.

Up until today I have burned only ISO images, so I have some questions about today. Each movie now has 2 folders; audio_ts and video_ts. The audio folders are empty. Is it supposed to be empty? In build mode, do I add to the source box the video AND audio folders or just the video folder?

the audio is in the video TS folder so you don't have to add or do anything but pick the video TS folder

In DVDFab, there are a few discs that after I get the "successful copy" popup, I click on finish, and then I remove the DVD. Then I receive the message, "Error while reading! Please choose what to do" Retry, abort, ignore, ignore all are the options. Since I reached the successful burn screen first, should I be able to just not worry about this error message, or is there likely something wrong?

Another error I get with DVDFab sometimes is "DVDFab encounters a reading error (may be caused by copy protection) which can be removed by using PathPlayer, the technology employed in DVDFab. Please note when Pathplayer is enabled, opening a DVD may take up to several minutes. Would you like to restart DVDFab to enable PathPlayer for this DVD".
Do I just need to click yes every time I see this message to be on the safe side?

Hopefully I can just ignore those errors. However, here is an error that is more concerning. In DVD RB while ripping Pulp Fiction, when I reached 100% it says: error in updateIFO:vts_fo_vobid:07/cellid:01 was not found in the vob. might this be because this is a movie with some 2 angle scenes?

i have only had Fab prompt a PathPlayer message once or so and that was ages ago so i don't remember what i did; i guess i nust have said yes to it back then.

the way i always deal with these is to use VobBlanker (v2.1.3.0) from here - http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/
..now this is/can be a very complex/powerful tool, but it can be used in an incredibly simple way for errors such as this; just point VobBlanker at the folder containing your ripped movie files and point VobBlanker's output folder to somewhere else. Hit process and it will fairly shortly finish doing it's thing. Now simply point DVD-RB at that output folder and it should work fine. I have no idea if the error is driven by multiple angles or not, i just know it works for me :)

Creaky is right on. Just click YES, DvdFab will restart with PathPlayer enabled. I've had a few movies that required that to adequately rip.

You should copy only DVDs you actually own and not burn downloaded movies.

you need to start your own thread for that, in this same forum. Here's the section of the rules to do with downloaded content..

If there are 2 audio streams and they are both 2 channel AC3 English, I have been selecting only the first one. Should I be keeping both?

I usually just keep both to save checking, saves missing the correct one. Though the best way is to choose the correct audio in the DVDFab stage..

Are there times these 2 tracks would both be used, like blended together to play at the same time? Why would there be two similar tracks? usually a directors track is labeled such, as well as different language tracks.

No they can't play at the same time, and yes, a director's comment should normally be labelled as such. I've long forgotten why there's more than 1 when they're not labelled clearly, sorry :)

the directors comments can be in the 2 channel audio also . your best bet is to use the 5.1 audio only

I already ripped and encoded some where there were only 2 channel audio and I just selected the first one listed. I better give those a listen to see. Hopefully it is obvious right away if I got the right one or not.

trotsky77, if its any help, I to am a perfectionest when it comes to my tv viewing, I will not burn anything under 70% unless I split it, to most people thats a pain in the ass but I prefer a solid picture, getting up once to view part two is no biggie to me, and no will not pay the DL price, still way to expensive, and I only use clone and anydvd, for non-techies like me its simple and quick, you dont have to rack your brain and go crazy with different configs, plus clone and anydvd is second to none with upgrades and help.

So after all of this I am still having issues. The only thing left I can think of is that I have been using a variety of bad players. The newer player I have is the Toshiba SD-4100. 5 minutes into Forrest Gump it already skipped. Next I hooked up my older Toshiba, SD-2800 and it played through that part fine. I want to have discs that I can feel confident playing at home or in other players if I bring them with when visiting people.
I am completely exhausted. I have tried everything and I feel extremely discouraged right now. I have tried many solid programs that are out there, and I also replaced my laptop, burner and media.
Any suggestions?

if its playing fine on certain DVD players then its not the software. I use tayio Yuden DVD-R burning at 8x max and they playback fine on any DVD player i throw them at.
so very important use good media and keep your burn speed at 8x max. are you doing this? what brand of media and what burn speed are you using?
other things that can cause problems
1. laptops aren't the best for backing up DVDs
2. desktop machines work much better
3. box system (Dell/HP etc.) with preloaded software can cause problems
the best combo to backup DVDs is to use a custom build machine(desktop) with your own OS (Windows XP / PRO without preloaded software built in to it

There's the clue & the breakthrough you were after; try some other discs on that player.

It would appear that you're doing more than enough to solve the problems by now, the only real clue seems to be the dvd player. It's been the longest time since i've had any skipping issues, though for me it had been crappy media and the only other time was when a burner was dying (took a while to figure that one out). I've got many players to test discs on, various different standard dvd players (mostly cheapy ones), a couple of more expensive ones, no troubles on any of those. Plus i have various xboxes that are used to watch movies, their dvd drives never have issues with any discs, plus my kids have a few players and never have issues with any of my discs.
I'm not saying go out and buy another dvd player, all i can see is left is for you to try a few more discs on that older player; at the very least you have learnt a few more programs along the way :)

When I used DVD Shrink, I had issues in both of these players, as well as the dell player, and a player on a PS2. Maybe the one player will play fine now since I am no longer using Shrink. However, it would be nice to burn DVDs that can play in all/most players.
I am still using Verbatim DVD-R 16X media and burning at 8X.
