this site couldn't survive without you guys and i apologise if i have stepped on anybody's toes. All the things I have posted have came from experiences I have read on this site or things that happened to me and thought I would save you repeating yourselves. My messages from page 2 of this link (sept) were answered in great depth and I see the problem might be appearing with others with flash failed coming up. Anybody getting this problem look back and check what malci and karljd posted as a reply to me from page 2 in september. There was quite a few things i had to try.

Hi, can anyone help?
I have a star view box 1.
It's genuine not clone.

I loaded the file "thebox_H20071015_454eE_api"

Now the box won't turn on properly. At most it comes up with one line and switches off again but that's it.

Can't do anything else with it.

Anyone got any help or advice?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

firstly, thanks for all the help in the past, especially Malci, much appreciated.

But, at last some good news.

I was speaking to a girl tonight, and she has been told by a guy who works for V****n, that all these code chages will stop in another 4-5 days. Apparently it costs V*****n too much money, and they will have all their equipment updated by then. And, it does damage to their wee blue box on the wall outside.

Let's hope so.

i have downloaded the fix for my starview box supr but it keeps coming up flash update fail. the cables are in securely the com port is correct.

i am using the rs232 cable that came in the box. can this be the problem or is it something else.

Well first thing I'd personally try you've guessed yourself.....the cable in the box may not be A: a genuine null modem cable or, if it is, B: working correctly. It's like £2 on eBay including postage for a serial null modem cable. I'd pay that just to rule the cable thing out so I could look elsewhere for the answer.

I wouldn't personally put too much faith in this kind of friend of a friend talk, but like you say....let's hope so.

I was wondering myself how much of either a hassle or an expense it is for them to roll the codes like they do. If it was simple and cheap, they'd do it every half an hour or so (service to a genuine box is unaffected AFAIK, so they'd get no complaints from subscribers). It stands to reason it is either a hassle or very expensive for them to do. Does anyone have any inside information on what it takes to do what they do?

I thought I'd pass this info on as it seems a good few people who are struggling with the new fix have had the same thing happen....i.e getting stuck on 0% during the update. Well on dooby2oon's guide he mentions this:

"I've had a few of these super box's hang on 0% updating with a flicker every ten secs or so, if this happens just flick power off on the back then flick back on will then update as normal"

But it's a little confusing as earlier in the same guide he says never to switch the box or the PC off when the update is in progress. So I'm confused as to if you flick the switch while the ROM loader is in operation or not. Or could he mean that because it is stuck at 0% it is safe to do this, as the update has not effectively started yet? Anyway, whatever, I just thought I'd pass it on as some people are getting this problem. Here's a link to his guide:

Roger, What you have posted is the firmware for The Box Starview 2, that is why you can not do anything with it, just check your box, if it says Starview on the top front left, then it is definately Starview 1. You will have to re-flash with the CryptStar-v1.4-Core400.bin or the CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin try to flash back with either one, if you have trouble then you will have to try the "bad Flash method" and keep trying, it's been known to take 20 or more goes before it has worked, and you will find the procedure in both the Starview links at the bottom - but you could be lucky and be able to flash straight back to one of the above, try it that way first.

EDIT: You obviously will have to manually input, for the time being when you get it back with it's own firmware.

Dooby does mean what he say's, if it is downloading then NO you must not switch off the box or PC, if it is sticking on 0% then yes it will do no harm to switch off then back on, it's just like an hardboot download, sometimes works, it's like a kickstart, obviously the settings must be correct as in his guide.

Sorry
pressed post before anything written.

What I wanted to say is:
Have done lots of boxes of the years, this flash seemes a bit "sticky" but works fine.
I also had to flick switch off/on back of box, I did a cancel on the download first then off it went no problem.

Have a look at the second link under my sig, for all the updating info, cables etc. The firmware you need (8.02) is in eamos library in the "B0X SUPER" folder also under my sig.
Best of luck.

EDIT- BTW, you dont need a disc to download the firmware.
