@Mshifty
You need to use "mspformat" or re-format the card using UUV3, but I like using mspformat instead. In order get past the "reserved sector" error you need to use windows XP. If you are on XP and still continue to receive the same screen try using making the MMS on a different PC. It all has to do with the your OS environment. Your almost there, injecting the IPL code to the MS is where most users have trouble.

Just wanted to say I have always used afterdawn and its always worked and I'm a thirty-something woman in the UK. Got a phat PSP which I stupidly upgraded to V3.9 firmware, bought the tool tried flashing the psp using the guide from pandoragadgets it didnt work (three times) probably didnt have the 150 add on or something as there was no instruction on it. Tried this one and failed twice and have just realised (after reading the above quotes and going back and taking another look) it was because I was reading the pandora bit for custom firmware even though I knew what I was doing was going against every bone in my body, however I ignored what I thought I was reading and it worked perfectly and I'm now upgraded to 5.00 M33-3!! With afterthought if I had read it properly then for me it would have been a 5 minute job

Really Happy thanks again to everyone at Afterdawn :0)

Hey larry i was just wondering if it is possible to install custom firmware to a 4.01 ofw psp slim. I saw a video on youtube that showed this being done but am not sure that it is a genuine 4.01 out of the box ofw. Woudl it be ok to post the link to the video. I wanted to contact the person who uploaded the video but was not able to. so i thought i would defer to the experts.
the video showed the person using DC v5 to install the cfw. I have a psp with cfw and have installed cfw to numerous psp with the help from your guide, by the Thanx alot for the hard work.
If this is not the right place for this question plz let me know and will search on for the right forum.

Not all PSP with OFW 4.01 out of the box are V3. It all depends upon region and whether if Sony shipped all 4.01 PSP with a mobo V3. Mine was a 4.01 out of the box and I had to use DC7 in order to flash CFW. There is a 50/50 change it can be a V3 you can't tell for sure. Any OFW above 4.01 is indeed V3.

Hello Everybody!!

I have a white slim PSP star wars special edition running OFW v4.01 and is trying to install CFW on it.

I created the MMS by following the guide, and is currently trying to make pandora battery with my friend's slim PSP which is running v3.90 m33-3

however, when I run the OS pandora battery tool 0.5 that came with the guide to convert the slim battery into pandora, I get the error 0x80**(dont remember exactly what the error code was) and quits the program without converting the battery.

Please help me with this problem, for I already screwed over a PHAT PSP battery trying to hardmod it.

Some FAT and SLIM batteries are not compatible with service mode. I would suggest trying a different battery if you have 1 available.

Larry,
I have the pandora battery pack and magic memory stick that I bought and my friends psp got apparently accidentaly updated to version 4.05...now it does not recognize the MMS at all... Is there any way to downgrade this back to the 4.01 version without screwing everything up...tried many things and combination with it, without any success... Can you help me please?

do you really need a working psp to make a mms?

because in the guide it says you cam use a card reader, but in the troubleshooting section it says you need a working psp to create the mms and pandora battery.

This "recovery menu" thing...

you turn off psp compeletely by holding power then turn it on and hold R trigger to get in it right? but I can't get it working. WHY?

Correct the troubleshooting section does say that, as most people don't have a card reader to create the mms.

But read the pandora battery section carefully on what you need.
There is 3 parts to that section.

That does not always work on my psp either. What you can do is turn on your psp, PRESS SELECT, scroll down the menu to "RESET DEVICE"
Press "X"
Then as it resets hold the R trigger. That works for me.

The only reason the "you need a working PSP to create the Magic Memory Stick" is in the trouble shooting section is because a previous member wasn't using their common sense and was trying to use their bricked PSP to create the Magic Memory Stick.

As well I would think since the card reader part is in the guide users would understand that you can use a card reader without question. But to make it even more clear I will edit the trouble shooting part and include the card reader as well.

What does the first page say? At this time the PSP-2000 V3 and PSP-3000 cannot be modded. The homebrew community may face utter extinction in next the upcoming years. We can only hope for a miracle.

Hello I want to thank you Larry for the guide. I have one question to anyone who can answer this. What does the 1.50 add on do, is it needed to run homebrews ? Also so I am doing this correctly, the guide says that 5.00 M33,and the 5.00 M33-3 updates go with the 1.50 ADD-ON for 4.01 M33. In the menu there is a 1.50 add on for 5.00 M33. Which would I use ?
