using pandora's battery will not brick your system, if the MMS is made correctly. it bypasses the normal boot by going into service mode. it's the safest way to update or downgrade.
if you use a vista computer to make the MMS, forget about it. find a computer with xp on it, and redo the MMS.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

Hey Larry i Got a Question.. i got psp phat 1001 and i have update it to ofw 4.05 but can i use your guide to go to downgrade its to cfw 3.71 M33-2 and it wont bricked my psp right.. cuzz i already make the MMS and waiting for the datel tool battery that i order. Thank You

so you are telling me that if i useing Window Vista to Make the MMS it wont work.. Cuzz i already success makeing the MMS and i didnt have no problem open easy Installer

It doesn't matter what OFW you upgrade to. You can downgrade any PSP using a pandora battery unless you have a PSP-2000v3 or the new 3000.

O aite Good Looking.. i didnt know window vista ant going to do the install proper.. but i did use window xp but counldnt extract easyinstaller so that why i upgrade my laptop to window vista and its work. but now i gotta downgrade my laptop to window xp.

I used PSP Pandora Deluxe 2.8 and my MMS was fine with Vista(32 bit), put 3.71 on today with no problems.

I just wanted to say thx for this wonderful guide, it's very clear and I don't know why people still have questions about it.
maybe you should make the "What if you have official firmware" to stand out more, right now I'm trying to get my battery pandoraed (if that's a word) by a friend, but everything else has been crystal clear
Wish me luck, and it's an awful lot of work just to get a SNES emulator going! lol...

Hi there..first of all thanks for your guide.
Ok i bought a psp for my son for xmas and its had ofw 3.95 i have followed the guide and with the pandora battery tool installed the new 3.71 cfw.
I then go to mux and update to say 5.00 m33 then exit mux go to game memory stick psp update ver 5.oo it updates..then i go back to mux and update to 5.00 m33-3 and back to game memory stick update 5.00m-33 all is good.
i then try to use the 1.50 kernel addon for 5.00 but get a message "this program only for the standard psp" and nothing happens. so how do i turn my psp into a 1.5ver and how do i get it out of 5.0version please

you cannot get the 1.5 kernel on the slim. it's not even worth it now, since homebrew is getting ported.

Cheers fot that cee43ja1..the reason was i got some games off another psp and it was running emulators 1.5v... ok so is there any way of playing these game files they are in bin format

Thanks for this guide. I tried three other guides to get my God of War PSP updated to custom firmware, and none of them worked right. This was the only one that let me get custom firmware installed. Even the MMS I used to update my previous Star Wars PSP didn't work with the GoW PSP. I was using the Datel Pandora battery, but never got it working with the GoW PSP, either. Keeping my newly made MMS and phat-turned-Pandora battery together in case I need to use this for another upgrade in the near future.

Can anybody help me ? I asked this on the last page but nobody new/got back to me. What does the 1.50 add on do, is it needed to run homebrews ? Also so I am doing this correctly,the guide says that 5.00 M33,and the 5.00 M33-3 updates go with the 1.50 ADD-ON for 4.01 M33. In the menu there is a 1.50 add on for 5.00 M33. Which would I use ?

I had issues with the Sony MS like the screen was black and nothing was happening but then I used my friends san disk one and was fine witj it.

I need a little help on properly booting my psp games on official sony memory stick. I was able to make the mms and borrowed my friend's pandora battery. I upgraded my phat psp to 3.71 m33-2. I can see the game title icons on my display after I inserted my memory stick (with my backup roms), but after I pressed X, I got a black screen and later I got a message saying" The game could not be started (80020321) message. Can anyone offer some suggestion?

Yes i have the same problem but i have version 3.71 m33-4 :S please help us :)
