Here is another idea.
what if they are detecing NTSC consoles playing a PAL release even if it is region free. Could they detect something like that and use that to determine if someone had a hacked box to play with?

Can they detect it... probally. But would they ban you for only that reason... I'd say no. People do order originals internationally and it's completely legit. If MS didn't want users playing games cross-region, they'd have the developers region lock every game.
But it could be a flag for MS to keep an extra eye on your console. And if you have raised other flags while playing that specific game, that may give MS enough reason to ban that console.

Yes it could raise flags possibly i agree. Even more so what if they are using the RF releases against us. lets say a game is region free and you import it and play it after the legit release dates, that is fine no harm. But lets look at the pre release games that hit the net early, most of them are pal/rf copies. so maybe the flag is raised when u are playing a pal region/rf on an NTSC console and they look and if u are legit import and all they dont care, but if they look and you are playing lets say COD5 pal version before release then BAM/BAN lol. The flag is raised when a pal hits NTSC box and they know a lot of the games that hit the net are in this format so makes it easy to track down with the ban hammer...just an idea

Heres what Im reading from all over the net, most the errors they are getting are ACCOUNT BANS, not console bans, and I will be Damend if I run mine on live to check. BUT from the 1st ever ban I remember correctly that it was a CONSOLE BAN, not account ban, so there could be hope that your just have to buy a new account.
For people who ARE banned, and are willing to test this theory, change your console to offline, create a NEW account for silver, if it fails to go on live then its a console ban, if you can go on LIVE using a different name/trial account, then you can still use your system.

This is a console ban, which my friend had for playing pre halo 3 demo from that game (forgot the name) that caused the first bans.

theres is another account pic but hard to find it, as im too busy cleaning my house. IF you are banned articulate WHAT it says to better help the community, most people are claiming the bans are for using COD beta and other beta keys.
Articulation is key, dont just say IM BANNED< say how u got banned, its easy to say your sick but without the sympton how can we help you.

been playing gow2 on live all day and i have played cod world at war already and still nothing for me. everything is fine. i dunno how or why they are banning but so far it hasnt affected me still.

I have a modded 360 but I havent been online since just before GOW2 and Fallout 3 was out so I dont know if I am to get the ban. I was going to go online but since im using the leaked NXE update I wanted to wait to after the 19th and download the update to my pc, updated my 360 to the full NXE using a flash drive and bingo I should be ok, not now though cos it looks like I could get banned.
I just spent £60 on a wireless adaptor too for Live a while ago insted of using a cable and now it could be bloddy usless. Thanks M$ :(.
Anyone know if how to go back to the old dashboard if it possible? I just want to limit my chances of a ban.

Well C4eva confirmed no firmware checks, so its got to be acounts being banned, NXE, well i think u have to clear cache and delte it, but honestly since I have not messed with it knowing this might happen , youll have to google that, but I did read somewhere that U can not take it off once its on.

its possible but not worth the trbl, on other forum a guy did it but he had to change stuff on the board requires solder so it really isnt worth it unless u are good at that stuff

Like it was said before, I think you're probably wrong. I think the majority of it are console bans from bad rips of games people either made or downloaded. I don't believe it is account bans.

I am using the new NXE also,I tried to hook up to see if I was banned also and Im not.You can find out by doing the network test even with a leaked DashBoard,But no you can't downgrade your dash.

Its quite possible. Also there has been talk about the new update being included on game discs that are released after the update is made official. That way people without access to internet at all will be able to have the NXE

Thats not to bad as I dont want to go on with the leaked verson as I know I will get banned defenitly. If I can update offline then I will have a legit copy of the dashboard to go online and test if I get a ban for the firmware or early game play.

They confirmed in the Live Log, that there was nothing new added. On IRC in #fw they also said in the headline "Thank You SEED4ME". So it looks like if you played any of the SEED4ME Releases, you 'might' get the ban. They say some will get banned, and others may not. As for the people that don't have a modded console and are banned, that's obviously a mistake on M$'s part, or you did something to piss them off.
And yes, it's Console Bans that people are getting, they are not Account Bans! So stop trying to start a rumor that it's Account Bans!

why are you mad at "M$" cause you played early (and probably pirated) versions of games and have installed a "leaked" copy of NXE which they have said NOT to install.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they still losing money on each console they sell? Especially given the recent price drop. I think Nintendo is the only one of the big 3 that makes money on the current generation consoles.

tavek, I think he's right on this one. I've been doing a lot of reading and it appears that an account ban is the same thing as a console ban. Some people have called up Mircorosft and that's what they told them... I could be wrong, but I think they are the same.
