Speaking for myself and backing up Binkie, both of you are correct. What Binkie meant is if your PSP came with 4.01 OR higher OFW, then you would not be able to modify. And then you got it in September? If you would have read the entire post here and any other related posts, the last good slims to buy were made and released in the wild prior to January 2007 (or was it February). Regardless, yours was bought too late by your description. If its a 2000 made after February 2007, more than like it will not work. I am assuming you have a later model 2000 but only way to know if you got a modifiable one is if you even tried: did you? If you did and nothing happened, then you know it was not meant to be.

Thank you.

Sony did not start putting 4.01 and the New Mobos on the Slims until November 2007. I know this cause I used to work for Sony in that department.

I just found someone locally that did the Firmware for me for $15. So yes the Starwars version with the 4.01 firmware can be Modded. He used the Battery and Memory card. took less than 10mins.

I was just going to tell you that yes, this one can be modded. You might of had the firmware updated after receiving it and forgot since I know this one was not one of those affected by the 4.01 firmware restrictions

For those like myself with a (currently) unhackable psp, there is a "Homebrew Enabler" for OFW 5.03 called chickHEN that reboots your ofw into a chickHEN version and allows loading of hombrew.. it doesn't allow you to run umd backups or psx games, but homebrew is a great start and holdover till umd backup loading is available.
chickHEN R2:

OFW 5.03:

rename to EBOOT.PBP and put in GAME\UPDATE

chickenhen has been confirmed to work with ta-088v3 slims and now has a custom firmware loader to allow for iso's and other cfw features but not complete and has to be loaded each time after reboot but only installed once though psp 3000's do not have the custom firmware support yet.

Update: There is now a custom firmware that supports the 3000; unfortunately, it runs like the HEN in that it's not permanent unless you don't do a hard reboot or take the battery out.
Apparently, though, some of us are having trouble running the program that installs the necessary files to the memory stick, so hopefully relaying this info to you can get someone's attention to this issue more quickly.

Custom Firmware 5.03 HENA-A for HEN has been released
Features:
* COMPATIBILITY PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 v3
* Reading of plays PS1
* Reading of the backups of plays PSP
* GEN VSH FINELY available
* Recovery in VSH available (some bugs remains to be regulated - to see further)
* Access to the PSN
* Etc
so to clarify all psp's can be modded again up to 3004 atleast and with homebrew and iso suppport though its risky with 2000 v3 and 3000's since there is no unbricker or pandora.
and as the previous post I mentioned you need to load the custom firmware with ChickHen each time you shutdown the psp.

Hey guys. Im new to this whole psp moding era. I bought a psp3000 a couple of months ago and found out that it could not be moded. 2 days ago i ordered a psp slim 2000 from amazon which arived today. It has a 4.01 firmware. I've heared that if that's the case then its not modable. Is this true? if not can anyone explain or link me to where i can mod it?
PS: I've already tryed to create a magic memory stick using easy installer but it doesn't seem to work.

even if it has 4.01 it may still be modded if you use a pandora battery and magic memory stick and now the ta088v3 and 3000 slims can be modded using chickhen and gen-a cfw links to those and pandora are in my signature.

Thanks you. I'm going to check out those links. I have both a 2000 and a 3000. I live in toronto and heared from some people that they might be some people in china town that would do it. I searched everywhere and all I found was that there was about 5 sushi restaurents per block. I ordered the battery-tool from code junkies but by the feed back people are givving, I don't think it's gonna come anytime soon. Still I can't make a magic memory stick. I tryed several guides and none of them worked. So if you guys know the solution to those problems, I'd be glad to hear them.

which programs have you tried? i recommend you use PSP Grader v008 though this will be of no use until you use it with your pandora battery so hopefully it arrives soon.

Yeah! That's what I'm using right now trying to create a magic memory stick. I'll post feedback in a minute.

I encountered a problem with Grader v8. After I downloaded the official 5.00 firmware as it requested, I selected "Format memory stick" then pressed "Create pandora stick" it says:
The IPL Failed to Inject.
Not enought reserved sector space for IPL.
I don't know what that means. I'm using a 4 gb stick by the way.

try formatting the stick with the psp and if it still gives you trouble try another prgram like Pandora Deluxe or another memory stick.

Excellent! I did just that and it worked. Now I guess I just have to wait for the battery-tool.
Is there any other way to make a pandora battery without opening it up?
