Well it's time for an update.

I have this customer from california that has bought several things i modded for him. He was asking about another custom xbox because his got banned but is still working flawlessly. Anyway we worked out a deal where he would send me a laptop and some money in trade for an xbox.

This is the monstrosity in the making

here's a color test, it's not the actual case but one i had laying around to help me decide on the color.

Here's a pic of the fans and rol finished, i had to actually cut the cpu heatsink to fit that 60mm fan.

test fit

Here's the finished xbox, you can see the plexi reflecting light

Ring of light is blue in the middle with white leds, the 60mm fan is blue and the talismoons have white leds.

Here's a video of it

This was my first time working with a flat piece of plexi but i think it turned out pretty good. What do you guys think?

Very nice!

Any chance of some pics to show us how you stuck the plexi to the xbox shell? Also, did you use a dremal to make the hole? When I tried this, i could never get the edges strieght.

Nice co45, i like the frosted look on the other one.

As for the plexi I used a plastic expoxy made by superglue.

I had to take down some raised edges and bumps on the inside so the plexi would sit flat. After i got the expoxy spread around the edges i put the plexi down and then used a couple big bottles of liquor to weigh it down (btw i'm not an alcoholic). I let it sit for a good half hour then cleaned up the paint and plexi with a little rubbing alcohol.

Also when i was cutting the case the part on the dremel that holds in the bit dug into the plastic on the case. I had to do some bodywork on it lol, i used bondo and 400, 600,800,1000,2000 grit sandpaper on it to get it back to where it looked perfect.

I used a dremel cutoff wheel for the long parts and just some pointed attachment for the corners. I sanded it all down after it was cut to get rid of the sharp edges.

To paint i used duplicolor adhesion promoter, then i used rust-oleum gloss deep blue, and finished with duplicolor crystal clear coat. Inbetween coats i cleaned the newly painted surface with rubbing alcohol to make sure it was free of any dust/dirt. The last coat i let dry for about 15 mins then i used a heatgun set on medium (550-600F) to warm the paint up and try it faster. Anyway it ships out today and i'm onto another project.

both are actually frosted hence the reason the white one looks so bright for a daytime pic

and it was actually really really easy laid the car decal frosted and very carefully while it was still soft i peeled the decal off.

and how do you sand with the dremel mine melts the plastic even when i tried cutting it melts with cabide bit and regular cutoff wheel. i end up wet sanding 400 by hand, and i use a jigsaw to cut the square windows which requires little to no sanding after im done.

Must be the technique. Go very slow. Every box I did in this thread I use nothing more that a Dremel with regular cut off wheels and a half-round hand file. I almost never get melted plastic (except when I go too fast). So go slow. Takes a little longer, but it's much less "work".

Here's the next one. I made this one for my buddy for fairly cheap. Used the talismoon aurora for the inside lights, went with blue lights for the controller and ring of light. Duplicolor flat black with a coat of clear for the console and some silver paint i had laying around for the fan tunnel.

Used a sanding barrel for the corners to make them nice and rounded, used a dremel cutting wheel for the straight cuts.

Here's with the lights taped in place to get the first pics.

Used my paperweight turbo to hold down the plexi while the expoxy was hardening. I thought it was pretty funny so i took a pic of it.

Lights glued in and wires ran

Finished pics

Probably work on another one in a few days, i want to try something fairly complicated. We'll see.

Just about finished with this one for a friend. Still have the HDD shell to mod with window and LEDs.

I hadn;t placed the beak on the cse at the time of the pictures. There should just be an outline of the bill, not that entire area being in green.

Some of those mods look great. How do you cut so well. Just a dremmel and then sand?

I use a dremel and then small hand files of different shapes to get the detailed edges.
Some use a jigsaw for simple cuts like windows.
The key is to go slow, take your time and remember that most any mistake can be corrected. Filler and sanding will do wonders for a slip up.

My HDD case mod needs some cleaning up. The corners didnt; match up as well as they should. Once I'm done, it'll look like it came that way though. I'm very happy with the effect this mod gave me.

The xbox from hell (GM Corvette Victory Red)

Here's how i wired my arrays, i figured i had more room in the middle than on the sides.

Here's the faceplate

here's the top with plexi mounted sitting on my desk at work

Here's the finished xbox

I ordered a xcm benq/philips cover that i'll paint red that should finish everything up nicely.

When u add a extra fan, does it blow air out or into the xbox? which is better?

Also would it better to used wire mess instead of pixly glass, so that there is more ventilation? Can I do that? do you recommend it?

Thanks!

I suppose you could use a wire mesh if you wanted to. It's really going to get dirty fast if you don't dust it at least weekly.

All fans on every computer suck the air out of the case, they never blow directly on the heatsink. My guess would be that it probably cuts down on the dust that gets collected. Though adding an intake fan on a 360 will drastically decrease temps since it's blowing air into the 360 and the exhaust fans are sucking it out.

Here's an updated pic of satans xbox (a friend named it)

And here's a pic of it turned off

I first put the protective cover on the xcm top but decided it looked too much like xmas (red, white, black). So then i peeled the top back off and painted the middle part flat black.

Trying to sell it locally but everyone in michigan is broke....figures.

I thought I had read awhile back that it's actually more efficient in terms of cooling to pull air across a heat sink than it is to push it across.

Fans blowing out = pull
Fans blowing in = push

I don't know,i really never understood it. Even with all the education and certs they never go over that. You have to remember back when the pentium 3 was released they had little 40mm fans mounted directly on the heatsink and it was blowing air down instead of sucking it away.

If you take the case of the xbox, and flip the fans around so the exhaust fans are blowing air in instead of sucking it out it would cause major problems. Mainly all that dust that was collected would have no where to go.

Remember this pic?
I bought this xbox from a taxidermy place....

Now just think if it was sucked in from the back and covered the heatsink the other way. I would be even worse than in the picture, the debris (don't know what to call it) would be trapped and your xbox would definitely overheat.

I've worked on some very high end computers and the more expensive ones seem to have more fans. There was a dell dual core with a huge intake fan in the front and 2 huge exhaust fans in the back. One fan mounted on the massive cpu heatsink and a fan mounted on the onboard video heatsink. This all came stock from dell. I think it was an xps series or something.

Well if you want the ultimate cooling mod just mount your heatsinks sideways, then you get the best of both worlds, right homesick?
